Republic P-47 "Thunderbolt"

6,375 Phoza  7.0 years ago

OH MY GOD THIS TOOK FOREVER. Originally I was going to make a Supermarine Spitfire, but I've decided to save that for later. Right in the middle of this build, my monitor decides to die and I need to wait a week to continue construction. THEN, I deleted EVERYTHING by mistake and needed to start from scratch. I never want to look at this plane again. Anyway, I hope you enjoy my replication of the Republic P-47 D Thunderbolt, with a custom paint scheme.

DESCRIPTION (Credit to wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RepublicP-47Thunderbolt)
The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was a World War II era fighter aircraft produced by the United States between 1941 and 1945. Its primary armament was eight .50-caliber machine guns and in the fighter-bomber ground-attack role it could carry five-inch rockets or a bomb load of 2,500 pounds (1,103 kg). When fully loaded the P-47 weighed up to eight tons (tonnes) making it one of the heaviest fighters of the war. The P-47 was designed around the powerful Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp engine which was also used by two U.S. Navy fighters, the Grumman F6F Hellcat and the Vought F4U Corsair. The Thunderbolt was effective as a short-to-medium range escort fighter in high-altitude air-to-air combat and ground attack in both the World War II European and Pacific theaters.

Do you mean the wing gear or back gear stalk? Thanks for the feedback!

Insignias on the ings are backwards (star should point forward), guns stick out too much, drop tank too big, and tail is too large. Wheels are too big, and the landing gear stalk (part holding the wheel to wing) is too thin. Other than that though, not bad! Don't take the criticism personally, i'm trying to be constructive. Try using blueprints.
