M276 Otomatic [AMRAD]
Background
The Otomatic is a Federation Artillery Multirole Area Defense weapon. Designed and built by Greyhound Systems and OTO Melara, it was armed with a single 76mm naval gun.
Development of the OTOMATIC SPAAG began during the mid 1970s privately by the OTO Melara company. The basic concept behind the OTOMATIC was to take the 76mm Naval Gun used on naval vessels and fit it to a suitable mobile platform in order to create a long-range SPAA vehicle that would outmatch similar designs such as the Gepard or the Marksman system. Engineers eventually succeeded in compacting the system enough, creating a vehicle that exceeded NATO requirements of the time. The project however lost interest by the end of the Cold War. In the 1990s, joined by Greyhound systems of the Federation, the Otomatic continued development as an AMRAD. The resulting development resulted in a more compact and lightweight system while retaining ammo capacity, improving speed, and increasing fire rate.
