M106 Hrafn

Amphibious Infantry Fighting Vehicle

I went and looked at my builds list, both on this site and in game, and realized i didn't have any IFVs. I had a few prototypes in the making, but they were all beyond ugly and unsatisfactory. So, I did what I do best at times, and took the hull of another vehicle I made and slapped extra stuff on there. Here's the result, I hope you enjoy my first fully completed IFV. (It swims too)

General Description

SB headquarters element realized there were no IFVs to present, and as such the R&D department got put to work finding a solution. After much struggle, especially regarding a suitable turret design for the new hT-40 40mm autocannon the department made previously, the Hrafn (Raven) was produced. The hull is essentially the same as that of the M104 Hrungnir MGS, albeit one of the later variants, the M104A5, but it was converted to mount tracks and become suitable for IFV use. Some might say the hull looks similar to that of the BMP-1, to which that design choice was intentional. It was to pay homage to the first ever true IFV. The first iterations had minimal extra protection, with no LWS or IRCM, and really not any APS of any sort. Even its amphibious capability left much to be desired. A good deal of time passed, and those issues were resolved. Included in this vehicle, you will find a passenger capacity capable of housing up to 8 fully equipped soldiers, 360deg cameras, an extendable bow plane for water operations, and two ATGM pods on either side of the turret. The ATGMs are also a new technology for SB, being capable of firing on the move, fire-and-forget, and are moisture-friendly. Overall, the Hrafn proved to pass every test the company of Spartan Ballistics threw at it with flying colors, and for that we are proud to present the M106.

I have another vehicle using the same cannon as this in the works, nearly ready to upload! I'll definitely say though, it has a lot spicier of a temper... Anyways, I hope you enjoy(ed) this build, feel free to leave questions, comments, concerns below, and you're more than welcome to hit that Upvote button and that Spotlight button if you're able to!

Went looking through my unfinished builds, I have an 8x8 wheeled hull similar in shape to the Hrafn IFV, it's large enough to accept a turret that can mount a 120mm and is capable of accepting thicker armor.

To provide sufficient protection against such rounds as 3UBR11, I'd have to almost triple the armor thickness or add some form of lightweight ERA, both of which would compromise the weight distrubution of the vehicle. That would disallow amphibious operations. Adding a 120mm manually loaded cannon would also necessitate a larger turret, of which this chassis will not be able to easily fit without altering or completely removing the crew cab in the rear, and not without severely compromising stability on both uneven terrain and in water, given the armor requirements laid down. Having capability to fire LAHATs wouldn't be an issue if the requirement wasn't for them to be gun-launched, either. Having them gun-launched would require a larger turret ring or bustle-stowed ammunition, both of which also lead to a larger overall turret size. The protection against chemical energy munitions such as RPGs and IEDs is already present, in terms of both armor and active protection systems. Mounting even a remote control .50cal would also prove a challenge without enlarging the turret, of which the detriments and disadvantages have been mentioned. Given your requirements, you might be better off using a modified M51A1 Hauld. It may not have the capability to carry troops like the Hrafn, but it has the capability to meet most of, if not all the requirements laid down by the WRMC and WRLF. The Hrafn, unfortunately, is not a suitable platform to meet such requirements. If you wish to wait for a more advanced option, I will soon be releasing my M78 Skofnung Advanced MBT, which will also be able to meet most of your requirements in a better fashion than that of the Hauld LMBT or even the Mjolnir MBT
