Background

The F-61 Valeria II is a single-engine supersonic multirole fighter developed by Tadei Technologies. Thousands of aircraft and variants have been built since production was approved in 1980. The Valeria's key features include a frameless bubble canopy for better visibility, side-mounted control stick to ease control while maneuvering, and one of the first use of a relaxed static stability/fly-by-wire flight control system which helps to make it an agile aircraft. The F-61 is equipped with an internal 20mm cannon and 13 locations for mounting weapons and other equipment.

The F-61 Valeria has a top speed of Mach 1.75.

The F-61C's sensor and communications suite has situational awareness, command and control and network-centric warfare capabilities. The main sensor on board is an active electronically scanned array-radar. It is augmented by a nose-mounted Electro-Optical Targeting System that provides the capabilities of an externally mounted Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod. The AN/ASQ-293 is an improved version of the F-52's AN/ALR-49 EW suite, providing sensor fusion of radio frequency and infrared tracking functions, advanced radar warning receiver including geolocation targeting of threats, multispectral image countermeasures for self-defense against missiles, situational awareness and electronic surveillance, employing 6 radio frequency antennas embedded into the edges of the wing and tail. The EOTS offers short-wave infrared, high-definition television, infrared marker, and superior image resolution capabilities.

Four additional passive infrared sensors are distributed over the aircraft as part of the electro-optical AN/AAQ-30 Distributed Aperture System which acts as a missile warning system, reports missile launch locations, detects and tracks approaching aircraft. The DAS sensor system during a test flight was able to detect a two-stage ballistic missile launch 1,000 kilometers away.
