The I-24 Sparrow was a mid range interceptor aircraft designed to take out enemy bombers. It was designed for a swift takeoff and attack with specifically trained pilots. The I-24 was known mainly for the joke pilots made for it which was " if its not dead in 5 minutes, we need a different plane." It was not used for very long from only 1968-1970 due to its technical issues it showed in cold and hot enviroments. The engines wouldnt start in the cold, and would fry in the heat, therefore its production was ceased immideatly on 6/17/1970 and all planes were recalled and scrapped. During its short service, it got 4 kills and none shot down mainly because it wasnt needed often. Only 1 I-24 was kept unused and put on display at a military air and space museum in 1972 and was kept there in memory of its pilot who was lost in a different operation that was classified.
