The first revision of the SeaLion came in 1989. By that year, the Navy wholly embraced the "Assault Carrier" concept as a way to keep control over her air assets. Thus, the Mk.2 was, by design, an extension of that concept. The revised powerplant, in the form of the Triple Wasp engine, gave it a very much needed 40% more trust, along with better economy, range and a bigger payload. A revised nose and housing for a 50mm. Dragon cannon completed a really needed and welcome upgrade.
