@L1nus Well sorry you don't like it, but from the research I've done and flying the Tomcat in other sims, as well as reviewing live and simulated Tomcat footage, the maneuverability is pretty well analogous to the real Cat, it wasn't exactly an F-16 at low speeds. Plus SP's lack of stall mechanics complicate it.
Regarding the rear engine trunks, I am aware, it's one of the things that would take a lot of parts and add a lot of complexity to remedy, which would then put it out of reach of many SP users.
@L1nus My goodness that is a really nice looking Cat! I would like to clarify that I don't claim this to be the most realistic or best LOOKING, I just think that it's the best representation in SimplePlanes, balancing pretty decent accuracy, ease of flying, and good capabilities in the SimplePlanes physics engine
Well hey that's pretty good! I can't wait to take it for a spin! Maybe you'd be interested in getting on multiplayer? We could sling our Tomcat designs out and see how they measure up sometime.
@L1nus Depends how you define it, but in the common sense, no this isn't mine.
it's a heavily modified and upgraded variant of AnIndonesianGuy's Tomcat. The original build gave the auto credit to him, but for some reason it now credits it to me and my previous iterations, possibly because it now has over twice the part count of his plane and is so much more developed.
I'm not shy to admit it though, I made sure to include credits for all the parts I used from other people in all my iterations!
@L1nus The base airframe I adapted from an existing build, AnIndonesianGuy's "Grumman F-14 Tomcat"
I've modified it enough that SimplePlanes now gives me the credit haha, it needed heavy renovation, all that's really stayed the same is the basic shape. Flight controls, cockpit, weapons, just about everything else has been added or heavily modified by me. The original airframe wasn't even straight OR symmetrical, and the flight controls would break off if you moved them the wrong way LOL
@L1nus Yep, that's one area I haven't messed with just yet, I plan to build it up in the future. It retracts into the main fuselage, whereas the wheels should retract forward into the shoulder. Custom landing gear is a royal pain, especially for big, heavy carrier planes like this. Hang tight and I'll work that out though!
I've been dinking around in SimplePlanes for several months now, but I decided it was finally time to share some of my creations and make a proper account lol. Stay tuned for more! I've got a lightweight AI bandit coming, and I'm continously improving the Tomcat here. Even within 3 hours after sharing this one I made even more improvements.
@LoneSpaceGaming I'm definitely interested in sharing insight both ways, would you be interested in talking over Discord perhaps? This isn't the best platform for deeper stuff
@Carsonkiddy2 Not mine, in fact. I've seen this particular HUD published by a ton of different people, so I have no clue who originally created it, but it works like a charm, minus the speed and altitude readouts being mis calibrated. Glad you like it!
@ollielebananiaCFSP Thanks! Correct on the camera plane part lol, MisterT's camera assemblies are brilliant! I've also got a Dassault Falcon outfitted with a tracking camera much like the Cinejet used to film Top Gun: Maverick. Hoping to get my friends to help out with multiplayer flying so we can get some creative air to air shots. Might also try hanging a LANTIRN pod or something similar off the Tomcat for some other shots.
I love the ocean mod but for some reason it makes all missiles dead-fire! :(
Love the way you went with this, although unfortunately it handles like a pig for me, like even my F-111 (a.k.a Hellkeska) turns better. Sink rate also builds up really quickly, making landing really difficult.
I attribute it to the SimplePlanes physics though, looking at the specs on here, power to weight and everything is highly realistic, but unfortunately SimplePlanes physics happened lol.
Shape and aesthetic wise though, your bird is fantastic!
Whew that's a really well done airframe!
@L1nus 76.185.73.180 is the IP address
@L1nus You down now? I can host now, just say the word.

@L1nus Your build or mine?

NEED MORE BOOLETS
@LoneSpaceGaming we can use this thread to talk :D
@MAPA Indeed :P I was trying to figure out which plane to use for the dogfight action shots and I knew the only proper choice was the A-4E Mongoose B)
@Ilovewillow @ToeTips Thank you so much!!!

Best Phantom I've found to date!

STUNNING, literally looks like DCS if you look at just the water
HANDS DOWN THE MOST REALISTIC AIM-54 EVER ON SIMPLEPLANES! Thank you so much for this design, it really completed my Tomcat build!!!
Thanks for this!
The work you put into these is seriously cool, and man they work well!!
Awesome plane dude, this is the best flying F-14 airframe I've been able to find in SimplePlanes. Hope you like what I did on it!
