Basically in a real aircraft you use it to tell if the aircraft is turning properly or if it is slipping, but I don't think the game's physics are capable of modelling a slip properly so it is very difficult to get an aircraft into one. Basically if it moves, the aircraft is slipping sideways.

+1I do agree, we should have more options for different types of car engine, but it is a plane game, not a car one.
