[Tutorial] A hack to giving your text images accurate colours

51.2k RepublicOfCursedPlanes  1.8 years ago

Most of you know about SPRASTER, which is able to make pictures using text labels.

However, the colours on these pictures always turn up faded. This has been annoying for many players, and it's one of the main factors that discourage players from using SPRASTER.

Some users have suggested to edit the photographs to make the colours darker before porting them into the software.

However, I've (accidentally) found a much easier way to fix this problem.

Step 1

Follow the usual steps to turn your photo into a text label.

Step 2

Paint the label black (specifically black). Yes, I know it doesn't change the colours of the text label, but you'll see why I said this.

Step 3

Open the text label settings, and set "Outline Width" to 40. This varies based on what photo you're using, so you should judge for yourself.

Voila, you have now made your text label darker, and the colours are accurate!

Before

After

It's not perfect, but the colours look much closer now.

Plane used in the screenshots.
(I won't update the XML for this plane anymore, because the last time I did it I got a loading error message afterwards.)

Anyway, you're welcome.

In the future, if someone asks you why the text images are so faded, you can link this post in your reply.
