Over the past few months I have discovered some quirks in the physics engine this game runs.
1. Dihedral- What a dihedral is if you don't know, it's basically the angle of the wing going up or down. For example, the Boeing 787, the wings are tilted upwards. The reasoning for this is that if a plane is not level, an upwards dihedral means the wing that's dropping generates more lift, which means it rolls over, and so on. When I add dihedral to wings in Simpleplanes, nothing happens.
2. Aircraft damage- Say you're flying an airplane that was recently uploaded, and is complelely made out of fuselage blocks, and then you crash. I touched on this before, but it still needs to be addressed. What happens, the whole thing disintegrates, right into thin air. I think there should be less explosions, and more part-Part disconnections. That would be more realistic based on real crashes. If there is fuel, there should be explosions. If there isn't fuel, there shouldn't be any explosions.
3. Weapon damage- Normally, guns in real life put holes in things. In Simpleplanes, it destroys anything it's connected to. It should just go into the part, and depending on what part it is, will explode after multiple shots fired into it. I think that would make gun damage a whole lot more realistic.
EDIT: I feel like I didn't input enough bads, so here are some more.
4. Structural integrity- We all know what it is, it's how strong a structure is. The primary wing, all rotators, and all detachers have weight limit to hold, depending on its size. The fact of the matter is, all the structural parts (excluding the structural panel), engines, and other misc. parts don't. For instance, there is a little platform that has a fuel cell which is modded to be 2.6m gallons. Nothing falls apart or sinks into the ground.
5. Drag- Ugh, the drag model is all over the place. I think there should be a wind tunnel sort of thing should be in the editor. What it will do, is it will take the model, every angle on a curved or circular fuselage block. Then, it will do a quick run a little diagnostic on how the model runs through the air and find were it clusters up or is denser, which signifies drag.
This game's physics needs an overhaul.

Amog us!
@BaconEggs Ya I'd have to agree with everything else on the list
@Toast I don't think the flight dynamics is bad, just some other crap.
I feel if we had a physics overhaul (in particular the flight dynamics) that it would render a large part of the airplanes on the website useless. It would give the newer players the impression that we are model builders not concerned with actually having it fly. Could you image some YouTuber whinng because none of the "cool airplanes" fly? It would turn many people down. Also what about our mobile users? They are a large part of the community it would only further isolate them from the PC/Mac players. I suggest that if we make such a change in the flight dynamics that we add an option for advance physics. This would keep lower power computers and Mobile users from being totally isolated because not everyone has a beefy computer to run such a physics engine. And those who did have the power to spare could have some more advance airplanes and flight models with also the option to still fly more silly airplanes. Anyone agree or think something else?
2 for president!
Agree over9000/10
I agree with #2 SO MUCH
i agree on 2 3 4 and 5.there should also be different mm on guns and broader weapon types
And acceleration physics needs an overhaul.
I agree with most of these, but I'm not sure about the dihedral. I feel that having the wings angled upwards (or otherwise raising your centre of lift - like with a raised rear stabiliser) makes the plane more stable. My way of visualising this is that the plane "hangs" from it's centre of lift, so if this is slightly above the centre of mass, the plane will tend to be stable and want to return to level flight after a roll.
Put it on the user voice site so they put it in consideration.
@PINK Is your CoL too close to your CoM?
I've already specifically mentioned Windstream tunnels. its great to see people are catching up on it since the Drag model is drastically unimproved!
The drag is quite a drag...
@Polandball What...
@TemDesBur lol
thanks to that profile pic im gunna stay awake forever!
@traindude48
It's like the physics are set to only square/rectangle, and not circular.
I've been screwing around with rotators connected to fuselages (round) and it bounces like a rodeo. Physics!
It happens to all of my planes, every plane, especially fast ones. @IStoleYourMeme
@PINK On PC that's a problem as well. I've tried to make a Ju 87 Stuka on both iOS and PC and for some reason it always rolls really annoyingly despite being perfectly symmetrical.
Yep, also, on iOS, it calculates it in a way to always make planes roll.....in any odd direction. @IStoleYourMeme
I AGREE MAKE SIMPLEPLANES GREAT AGIEN THOGH I HATE DONALD DUMP I MEAN TRUMP
However the heck drag is calculated is also really strange. For example nudging the cockpit once can add or decrease hundreds of drag points, and if there are jet engines, it can make them not work.
