Question: What happens when you cross two clashing opinions and a cult group all hating on one individual?
Answer: Very unhappy moderators
[insert audience laugh here]
But in all seriousness though, I've spent the last hour sorting out just that situation. Normally I wouldn't openly disclose the actions taken on behalf of moderators, due to it being sensitive stuff. But in the last hour I've banned two accounts and deleted at least 50 comments (took me the best part of a very monotonous 10-20 minutes deleting each individual one). On top of this I've warned about 5 individuals (maybe more) over ONE INCIDENT.
Fortunately, there's now very little trace of said situation, so hopefully it won't be brought up again. However, the sheer extent of this situation outlines a clear problem with some members of the community here:
Enforcing opinions on others like they're facts.
Please don't do it. Great, you have a preference, everyone's allowed them, it's what makes us individuals. However, don't enforce them onto others. Especially if it's in an angry or condescending tone.
As I found out today, this kind of behaviour coupled with herd mentality results in harassment of users on both parts. It's animistic and it saddens me to see such a creative community resort to such savages over (in this particular instance), petty opinions.
As Latent hinted in his post, it makes life for moderators, developers and even innocent members of the community a bit of a slog.
And as Latent said in his post, if you have a problem. Tell a moderator. Don't take matters into your own hands. You'll just encourage retaliation and cause the situation to spiral out of control.
Moderators on the other hand actually discuss the situation like decent human beings and actively try to reach a conclusion that will satisfy everyone, without resorting to petty insults. In the event you feel you have been mistreated by a moderator's decision, you can contact the devs here, or through using the contact link at the bottom of the page.
In conclusion, if things start getting heated between you and another member; block them, contact a moderator and let them handle the situation and don't wait until the last minute to do so.
On another note, I went to the Duxford Imperial war museum a few days ago and took this cool shot:
You’re a little late to the party @CarsonG1017
applause sign lights up in corner
Read some of what you typed but cool plane pic
@dootdootbananabus maybe, but there are a lot of things that make not sense
Kerbango is blissfully oblivious of said incident. Still I have wasted half an hour on this and seeing the Memphis Belle was worth it all.😀👍
@SemedianIndustries no because, seriously lots of people died
@dootdootbananabus like 9/11 being an inside job?
@Squirrel @TheLatentImage @AndrewGarrison Okay, this might sound stupid but do you have cache copies of the entire website from before moderation? Essentially, during the entire drama.
What exactly ended up happening?
Yummy.
Is that the Memphis Belle? Wait a second that shot is from a propaganda documentary from WWII that I watched on Netflix a week ago...
...
BTW, Squirrel your jokes though...
@SemedianIndustries I think that conspiracy theories are OK if they don't get real serious
I'm not sure if we have unusually good people in this game/site/community or simply more vigilant mods. I like to pretend it's a mix of both, either way, I find the results quite satisfying and hope they continue this way for a long time. Thank you.
@FlyingFanatic Yes but this situation was far, far worse. Sadly, you can't see the kind of flames that were spit around anymore.
TL;DR it was a bunch of death threats and tons of hate speech. The former coming from only one of the sides that took part in the conflict, however.
I already said it to Latent,
Thanks Squirrel for keeping this community nice and clean ^-^ my full respect
~Birdy
@Botfinder This I cannot say.
Not really surprised, there will always be THOSE people who do nothing more than cause trouble. That's why we have moderators, and very good ones at that.
Everyone that has taken part in this drama should get some form of punishment, to be honest. It doesn't matter whether they're a good, top-notch builder or simply a beginner. No one is under or above the law.
In my book, however, what some of the users did is simply unaceptable. The way they reacted and handled the situation is reminiscent of the gangs you see forming in prisons. Is this where we have gotten to? The point when an objection sparkles a war? That's called weakness, to be honest.
Without fearing any retaliation or possible response from any of the moderators, some of the guys that went way too far are a disgrace to our community and, therefore, should be banned forever. No matter how good they were. What they did, according to Federal law, is punishable by prison.
Just think of this for a moment. And don't start crying about good builders being banned. Others will have taken their place in no time.
However, this does not clear up the controversy created by this incident and I think further research should be done. There is something rotten here. I hope I'm wrong. Don't get me wrong now but there must be something fishy.
Well, my opinion is better than yours, you stinkybutt poophead!
I feel bad for you. You truly see some awful situations. But thanks for doing it; it keeps us all safe and sound.
I agree, it's better to report to staff over creating WW3. Beautiful shot, too.
Good job man, thank you highly for your efforts.
Btw nice pic!
You're doing a good job m8, btw you are lucky to go to Duxford, I have to settle with the London RAF museum
I feel guilty that I just scrolled through the post just to see the picture. But I agree 100% with your message.
