Can't remember the spelling, so please correct me if I'm wrong.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure this is single handedly the largest formation flight ever on the site. And by largest I mean with planes that have a wingspan over half a kilometre in length.
We flew for about an hour (?) in relative formation with the only major incident during flight being an attempted aileron roll from 15,000 ft which ended in both of us slamming into the the Wright Island.
During the flight we were accompanied by a number of... small... aircraft, flown by GearsNSuch, MisterT and a couple others.
Unfortunately, all things come to an end and while we both managed to land unharmed at Wright, Ariathe wasn't so lucky for taking off again due to a lack of landing gear. So he requested a bombing run to end it all.
So after a few tears and a flight to Yeager so I could actually turn my potato in time and line up, I prepped for the bombing run.
48 Scaled Boom 50s were prepped and armed as the lumbering Strato Bomber made its way for the final flyover the Omicron project.
This was it. The moment everyone had waited for.
And I missed every shot.
Probably the most anticlimactic scene in the world.
This was due to some lag which caused some minor positioning issues. resulting in a failed run... Was pretty impressive on my end though.
So with Ariathe still in agony, and 9 bombs left on board, I did the only thing I could do to guarantee us the best chance of a successful bombing run...
Fly my plane into him. The last resort.
Don't try this at home kids.
So I pitched up for a 360 flip to dive onto him, broke the sound barrier for one last hurrah...
Which was immediately met with copious amounts of lag.
To be honest it was a miracle I managed to hit the plane with mine.
And that was how it ended for us both. Two giants of the simpleplane's world going out with a bang... approximately 9 boom 50s worth and a few cleaver missiles.
Anyway, here are a few photos from the occasion. Sadly, I didn't screenshot the last moments, but Ariathe may have recorded it (pls upload, Ariathe... need to stop the tears):
I was there trying to get my flying airstrip to work right
