One Really Annoying Issue with Rotators And Resizable Wheels

101k Wallaby  6.0 years ago

I've had this issue for a while now (everyone does). Basically, the rotator and resizable wheel parts have limited strength. This means that when they are connected to a build that is 300,000lbs or more, they wobble. The rotators dont move smoothly and the wheels shake like crazy, which both looks bad and makes your build move in ways you dont want it to.

I'd love for there to at least be some sort of menu or .xml property that allows these parts to become stronger, so that under so much weight they will not wobble all over the place. Maybe there's something i'm missing, but there is currently no fix that I can personally find for this issue.

If you know something that I dont, please tell me.

@ForeverPie Thanks for the advice! I figured it out shortly after.

@MiladicPlanes You can only fix that with .xml modding, but its easy when you know what to do.

I'm also having an issue with resizable wheels too.

I used them as the landing gear for my aircraft, but when I retracted them, they don't seem to go through the fuselage.

Is there like, a way to make them go through the fuselage?

    @randomusername hmmm🤔 I'll test it rn

Why does my plane (which weighs 64,000 lbs) explode on spawn when rotators are attached near the front of it

Tag the devs so they can try to fix this ASAP.

Im gonna tag a dev for a 1.8 fix since this forum got a lot of attention.

More rotators mass => more rotators powerful. It is the only way at the moment.

    and pistons too
that's why my airliner has only 100000lbs

Yeah, a lot of the functional parts (rotators, pistons ect.) are very flimsy when under heavy loads. Like you could totally make LG that retracts via a piston, but then it 1.) cannot hold its own weight and 2.) will pop out under high g turns or something

I think if you increase the weight on the wheels/rotators, it doesn’t wobble as much.

I think the issue is not only that game, but Unity physics themselves, so there's not much to do...

@ThePrototype I've had the same problem, hence why I can't increase the RPM's more than 860, otherwise the rotators get out of place due to inertia and everything explodes

I've had the same problems building my tank(s) and cannons

I’ve also tried making a series of gears connected to a piston engine which just sets the motion of the whole system backwards and forwards lol.
    Have gears been suggested?

I get your point lol but I meant a single wheel@jamesPLANESii

I have made a piston engine and sometimes the rotators like to not stay were I placed them.... even though the measurements for the engine are perfect.... but SP physics doesn't agree

Try putting 300,000 pounds of weight on a wheel IRL lol
