First launched in 1929 as the Type T, this class of self righting, self bailing motor lifeboats were utilized by the US Coast Guard until 1987, then being known as the Type TRS. These 36' craft could handle extremely rough weather, despite only having an optional tarpaulin cover for the operator. The most famous ship of this type was CG-36500, operating out of Rock Harbor in Orleans, Massachusetts. In 1952, her crew, consisting of Bernard Webber, Andrew Fitzgerald, Erwin Maske, and Richard Livesey, rescued 32 of 33 men stranded on the stern section of the tanker SS Pendleton, after it split in half during a severe storm. None of the 8 men in the bow section made it out, and one of the 33 in the stern unfortunately perished attempting to board CG-36500. Of the 32 they rescued, all survived the long, freezing return journey.

Why am I not surprised that there were only 2 comments before a war crime was mentioned, love the simplistic design, absolutely love that the SP AI know how to use it
@RailfanEthan yeah, The Finest Hours, it's what inspired me to make this boat!
A movie was made about the rescue mission you mentioned off the coast of Massachusetts. It's pretty good.
@Embo naturally
