Richelieu Battleship

French Battleship Richelieu

The Richelieu Battleship, post refit of course because Bofors. Also the highest part count thing I have ever built, because even with part efficiency making a battleship with full guns under 1K might not be possible. I haven't even added the insane amount of Oerlikons this thing had! But I did use some nice Funky Trees (thanks Eternal!) to make some pretty useful guns, as well as a unique solution to Anti-Aircraft guns.

The guns utilize a formula which allows WASD to turn and elevate them like VTOL and TRIM would, only with much greater precision. This alongside the use of a gun for a rangefinder allows the guns to be used at extreme ranges. The 'Flak Blanket' sets different lifetimes to different cannons, utilizing the high amount of guns to cover several ranges at once thus averting the need for setting ranges.

Also, although the lack of Drag may make it friendly to sail for some mobile devices the AA guns may be less frame-friendly to shoot. Overall this is not my most attractive build, and I've come to think I'm not too great at the more complex WW2 battleship superstructures xD. But that's okay, this does have some nice guns.

    Hey Lynx, the ship is nice, but I have one quick suggestion: on your next turret, can you change the elevation code in to something like this?
    smooth(Pitch = 0 ? 0 : clamp(sign(Pitch), 0,1), abs(Pitch))
    The thing is, because none of your weapons have depression angle and you set the min to zero on the weapons, the weapons have a nasty delay when full elevating the guns if someone accidentally pressed down button too much as the rotator still "thinks" that you are still bringing the gun "up" from its full depression. Still, the code does allow the guns to be all nice and level on startup, compared to the old "@Scharnhorst" code that I used on my own turrets for a few months now. And I might as well give credit for your code on my next turret(ed) build.

    The "Scharnhorst" elevation code:
    smooth(clamp(Time( - Pitch>=0), -0.9667,0.0556),abs(Pitch)(VTOL+1)*0.5)
    or in its generic form:
    Smooth(clamp(Bool, min, max), abs(input) * (sensitivity))

    @unCANNY Go on ahead! In my opinion it's the best system for aiming guns. Also I could never think of a better name for it than "VTOL and Trim but with WASD", so thanks for that!

    I saw that you put a "mobile" version but because it doesn't have a drag, even that version worked very well on my Android

    Do you mind if I use your incremental gun aiming system on my next ship?

    @Doughnut45 When you cobble together some fuselage parts into a hull and put big guns on it.

    @MintLynx Haven't tested on mobile, but my computer is pretty beefy so my reports are a bit skewed

    If you could I'd like a "super" ship in the future with all the parts you can drop within reason

    @NumbersNumbersTheMan That silky smoothness most likely has to do with the 0 drag, this thing's got well over 1K parts after all! xD
