Rostov F/A-81 Crusader
Background
Federation
The Rostov F/A-81 Crusader is a twin-engine, supersonic, all-weather, carrier-capable, multirole jet aircraft designed as both a fighter and attack aircraft. Designed by Rostov Heavy Industries and Tadei Technologies, the F/A-81 is used by the air forces of the Federation and allied nations, and since 1982, by the Federation Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Valkyries.
The F/A-81 has a top speed of Mach 1.9 and is able to carry a wide variety of bombs and missiles, including air-to-air and air-to-ground, supplemented by the 20mm M63 Vulcan cannon with a high thrust-to-weight ratio. The F/A-81 possesses excellent aerodynamics, primarily from its leading-edge extensions. The Crusader's primary missions are fighter escort, fleet air defense, suppression of enemy air defenses, interdiction, close air support, and aerial recon. Its versatility and reliability have proven it to be a valuable carrier asset. Additional fuel can be carried in up to five external fuel tanks and the aircraft can be configured as an airborne tanker by adding an external air refueling system.
