Wallace Leaping Tank
By far one of the strangest tank concepts to ever exist, the Wallace Leaping Tank has a rather unique way to propel itself around the battlefield. Whereas most tanks use continuous tracks or wheels for movement, this vehicle uses a leg. Nope, that last sentence was not a typo, this machine hops around on a single leg like a giant hydraulic pogo stick. The donut shaped hull has 6 cannons offset by 60 degrees to each other, providing covering fire in any direction at any time. However, there are blind spots right next to the hull in between the guns, as they only swivel 45 degrees laterally. Atop this hull is a rotating operator's cabin, allowing the machine to move in any lateral direction, regardless of orientation. It's kind of obvious why this ''tank'' never made it off the drawing board, considering this design was originally patented in 1942 by a Henry Wallace, from Freeport, New York.
First things first, this vehicle has 2 modes of operation, Mobility Mode and Bunker Mode. This is due to the fact that no sane person would try to fire cannons while a machine like this is moving.
Controls:
Mobility Mode:
- Weapon Controls Disabled
Pitch/Roll: Movement Direction
Yaw: Pivot Left/Right
FireGuns: Fire Leg Piston
AG8: Switch to Bunker Mode
Bunker Mode:
- Movement Controls Disabled
Yaw: Horizontal Gun Traverse
VTOL: Gun Elevation Control
AG8: Switch to Mobility Mode
Additional Notes:
Time your jumps to move faster or jump higher. In testing, this machine could move at over 30 mph (48 kph), and can jump onto the Wright Airport building's roof (the airport itself, not the control tower) with ease.
The leg might appear to flex to the point the blocks disconnect. If they do anything too crazy, try running this on higher physics settings.
The vehicle number is the patent number for the original design. (seriously, look it up)
The cabin will rotate to face the currently selected target when in range.
The indicator that runs along the interior of the cabin is locked to the hull, use it to tell which direction the cabin is facing when targeting in first person.

@SpartanSR91 I wonder if anyone had made a replica of that thing?
Such a noncredible design.
@theIntruderReal Some of the mods I use for building cause the game to softlock when trying to get a thumbnail. And uninstalling and reinstalling is a pain.
@Crums Terrifying, and in more ways than one.... Turns out the mechanism from the original patent injects diesel fuel into the hollow piston, then ignites the fuel to jump.
@Graingy This does look a lot like Monty Tank, I still have my old Nintendo DS with a copy of that game.
This shows that you don't need a fancy thumbnail for the plane to get attention
@TTL Reminds me of the world 6 boss from New Super Mario Bros.
Goodness that is such a good game.
Who the hell hid crack under this pillbox??
@Graingy Mama Mia! A hoppin tank-ah!
@SpartanSR91 thank you it works now
It looks like a Mario boss
Wallace and Gromit theme intensifies
@Graingy You got the wrong Wallace, but now I can't unsee this thing being a Techno Trousers 2.0.
@Stonksman127278 Ah, that might be due to the guns being disabled in mobility mode. Try adding either a new wing gun or a minigun, not a copy of the guns already on it.
after years of searching, I finally have it
The doodads
I found a glitch for mobile I can’t move the leg on mobility mode
Despite being American, we all know who really designed this thing.
Maybe if we boost the power we can leap to the moon to pick up some cheese?
cheese wheel "tank"
darn, I'm impressed.. interesting piece of history...
