Ryan XV-5 “Vertifan”

My History Lesson About the “Vertifan”

Like a lot if not all planes between the time periods of 1950 and 1990, most of the airplanes where so far ahead of there time they either where canceled due to safety concerns, like the “big stick” nuclear powered missile. Or due to just all the issues the technology would bring up, like the SR-71. But the XV-5 was so advanced and worked so well it was just a few short flights away before it could change the Vietnam war...

The capability to hover and not loss any benefits of a normal jet fighter made this plane highly and extremely useful. The Herrier can hover for only 2.5 minutes, this plane, due to it not having jets to have VTOL thrust, like the F-35, could fly until it ran out of gas in a hover. That’s why the Vertifan Concept is so amazing! It could due every thing a helicopter could do, even rescue downed airmen, and fly backwards! Sadly, the project was canceled for a reason I could not find, but it can live on in Simpleplanes!

Controls/Take Off Sequence

Ag-8 = Gyro
Trim = Trim
VTOL = VTOL Controls
Gear = Gear
NEVER VTOL DOWN
Normal Simpleplanes helicopter/plane controls

———————————————————————————————

No Activation Groups
-VTOL up for VTOL fan doors and thrust
-Fly like helicopter until forward normal flight is wanted
-Push the nose down to build up forward momentum
-Plane the VTOL in the center of the bar and pull up with force
-Once you feel the plane start to gain control on the aerodynamic surfaces press 8 do deactivate Gyro
———————————————————————————————

bigest of thanks to This for showing me this aircraft and what it does, I mean it! :D

Pilots Notes

Plane is not the most accurate in the VTOL area, like trust and weight but sure looks cool. Hope this plane makes you happy and don’t mind taking the concept from me or taking parts!

    I won't comment on the effectiveness of the plane, but it ain't cooler than a Raptor.

    Sure, go ahead. This is my first VTOL that I tried to make look really good, and it’s my first VTOL in a long time! So yeah, go ahead and do what ever you want! :D
    Oh and I’ll see if I can fix the F-35 thing @Texasfam04

    where did you get your information that the 35 can only hover for 2 1/2 minutes? Its bad info and false. I work at the base where lockheed is building all 3 35’s. Not only can they hover for much more time they do it all the time, the pilots like to show the employees what the plane they build is capable of. i have personally witnessed it hover for lengthy periods more times than i can count. The harrier is limited because it requires a water source to hover. The 35 is only limited by fuel.
