The underperforming TF30’s of the F-14A Tomcat did not allow the airframe to reach its full potential, leading to their replacement with the General Electric F110. Initially designated F-14A+, the F-14B Tomcat had higher thrust and engine reliability compared to the F-14A. Other than a new RWR, most of the F-14A avionics remained unchanged, including the AN/AWG-9 radar. While some refer to this variant as the “Bombcat,” the nickname originated from F-14A’s fitted with bombs.

The F-14 was retired from US Navy service in 2006 and the only remaining operator of the F-14 is Iran, which continues to use and upgrade the F-14A. The F-14B and D are no longer in military service at all. Most American F-14’s, especially B and D’s, have been gutted of their avionics and internal systems, if not dismantled completely to prevent Iran from acquiring spare parts. Read more...

Author's Notes
- Fuel and gun ammo is unlimited.
- On takeoff from runways, I recommend 100% flaps with 60% trim. Get to around 300 km/h and give slight taps for the pitch to avoid tail striking. If taking of from the carrier, use similar settings and give a tap of pitch as you leave the deck. (For keyboard users)
- On landing, use the trim to achieve your glide slope and adjust using pitch. (For keyboard users) Make sure to reset your trim before braking to avoid swerving.
