"The success of this operation hinges on the survival of this ship, we must not let our nation down. we must face this threat head their ships head on while we still have the advantage"
Captain Eurich Hofftein

The light cruiser ANS Annvelier is the 14th ship of the Breston class, she was design for fleet support and convoy escort. She was one of the most heavily armed warship of her type and brought large amount of firepower and agility to a fleet. She would be considered one of the most important ships of the 2nd world war.

Development
In 1934 the Gretanican navy begun construction of the light cruiser HMS Newcastle, at the time the most powerful light cruiser in the world. This new cruiser pose a large threat to the current arsenian cruiser advantage and necessitate a powerful response. By 1935 work began on project C-7L a new 10.000 ton light cruiser designed to match the capabilities of the new town class cruiser. Plans would soon change however with the withdrawal of Hoitan and Walheim from the Washington and London naval treaty. This would soon led to the disbanding of the treaty entirely. With design limitations now gone the design would soon be expanded. The new design would be 13.000 ton in displacement and be equipped with 15x 6 inch guns. The ship also feature a total of 20 torpedoes making her one of the most heavily armed in the world. Starting with the second batch the ship would feature large numbers of anti air artillery and new radar equipment. By the end of 1935 the first 6 ship of the class would begin construction.

Design
13000 tons in displacement and able to reach speed of up to 34 knots. Armed with 15x MK 7 6 inch guns, 16 4 inch secondary, and 20 MK 24B torpedoes. Defending it were 7x twin bortis mounts and 13 quad hartell mounts quided by 8 AA directors. While very heavily armed the ship would sacrifice armor, her belt armor would be only be 3 inch thick, her deck only 2 inch and turret 2.5 inch. She was designed to be a long range escort and a fleet support ship capable of unleashing large amounts of fire power while being protected by larger ships.

History
In 1938 the 3rd batch of the ship would be would begin, construction with the 2nd ship in the batch being the ANS Annvelier. The construction of the ships would be accelerated due to the outbreak of war in Europa. This coincide with the Arsenian declaration of war towards Gretanica and Frankia. With the war going on the ship would be launched in 1940 and commissioned later in the same year. The ship was equipped with new MK7 6 inch guns with longer barrel life and charge limit. By early 1941 the ship would begin to partake in military operation in the Atlantic ocean. The battle of the Atlantic was one of the most important campaign of the 2nd world war. The area was one of the most dangerous for transport ships, with Walheim's U-boat and Arsenian surface raider the presence of escort was a necessity. The Annvelier would primarily operate as escort for Arsenian convoys and carrier, her service would earn her 5 battle stars. She proved to be a very reliable vessel being able to accompany carrier and convoy without much trouble. Throughout her first 3 years of service she wouldn't encounter much in terms of surface ship, being primarily used as escorts, the only threat she would encounter were Aircrafts and submarines. In 11th January 1944 convoy HH-10 escorted by the Annvelier and several other ships was attacked by the submarine HMS Vortex and HMS Unison. 3 transport ship was sunk and 1 damaged, along with the cargo ships the ANS Annvelier would also be hit near one of the engine room. This caused heavy damage and flooding slowing down her speed to 9 knots. Even with the damage the ship was able to limp back to Pysura harbor. The damage caused her to be out of service for 10 months. After repairs were done she would be one of the few ships available for operation Turntable.

Operation Turntable
Operation turntable would be one of the most important in the 2nd World War. The mission was to capture examples of the newly implemented VT fuze which allowed allied forces to increase the effectiveness of anti air artillery by up to 20 times. The usage of this would be heavily guarded and only used in select area of operation. The plan would begin with the large cruiser ANS Hyford launching attack toward a transport convoy, this would cause the the convoy to be split up and allow the ANS Annvelier to sneak up to a Ursean destroyer and launch a boarding party and capture or retrieve the VT fuze.

In 23rd november 1944 convoy HX-97 depart from Halifax bound for Liverpool, it consists of 12 troopship and 21 cargo freighter. Escorting it was the HMS Manchester, HMS Bristol, USS Miami, and 12 other destroyers. 4 days after the departure of the convoy operation Turntables was initiated. ANS Hyford and ANS Annvelier depart from Pysura harbor headed for the convoy, they would reach the convoy is 18 hours.

In the eve of 28th November 1944 the convoy was alerted to the presence of the ANS Hyford in the region, soon the convoy split up to minimize the chance of encountering the raider. The three cruisers and a couple of destroyers divert course to the last know position of the Hyford in an attempt to slow down the raiders advance. At 07:34 the USS Miami spotted the Hyford on radar at a distance of 28 kilometers heading towards the at a speed of 28 knots. The cruiser were ready for what they were going to face, the Hyford was specifically designed for destroying cruisers and hunting convoys. The best they could do is slow it down and await reinforcement from the Gretanican home fleet. At 08:12 the Hyford begun opening fire at the cruisers, the first few salvos missed but slowly and steadily they creep closer to the fleet. At 08:52 a shell would hit one of the cruiser, the HMS Manchester, this caused severe damage to the forward turrets disabling their turning mechanism. Soon the cruiser begin opening fire, their 6 inch guns fail to penetrate the Hyford's armor but caused severe damage to the exterior of the ship. But even with the damage they caused its still not enough, as soon the HMS Bristol would go down after several rounds hit below the waterline. Next the destroyer HMS Vigilant and HMS Urchin were sunk by the 5 inch secondary of Hyford. Then the USS miami was hit near the 2nd turret, this caused a chain reaction leading to a massive explosion destroying it. Finally the HMS Manchester was pummeled by 5 inch and 11 inch shells, destroying its superstructure and causing heavy structural damage and sinking it. After sinking the escort Hyford would continue chasing fragments of the convoy.

With the escort destroyed and the convoy split up the next part of the operation began. Arsenian submarines and aircraft begun to transmit radio reports claiming the HMS Manchester had in fact survived the battle and escape. This combined with arsenian signals jamming to hide the fate of the escort cruisers. With this operation Allied command would be overwhelmed and overburdened. This would leave the the destroyer USS Gregory alone and forgotten by Atlantic command, and soon the Annvelier would make her move.

It was 10:02, the sea was calm and foggy. The USS Gregory was heading for Liverpool after detaching from the convoy to hunt submarines. It's radar picked up a signature from the North East heading to Liverpool as well. The destroyer attempt to signal with wireless but was met with no response. After getting closer the destroyer would soon attempt communication with signal lights, this was successful with the unknown contact claiming to be the HMS Manchester. The unknown contact claims it was damaged and required the evacuations of it's personel. The Gregory which had previously received reports of the Manchester's survival, excepted the request. This was actually a trap as the unknown contact was the ANS Annvelier. Soon the Annvelier started launching its lifeboat filled with the 83rd marines boarding party. At 10:41 the lifeboat has reach the Gregory, their crew lowered nets for the lifeboat. It was then that the boarding party emerge, they decimate the deck crew and soon advance towards the engine room and brige. After 20 minutes of close quarter combat the destroyer was successfully captured along with the VT fuzes. after quickly taking control of the Gregory both ship started sailing toward Pysura harbor. By now the Hyford also started heading back to Pysura to avoid Allied battle now on station.

In the midst of the escape the Annvelier was spotted by PBY Catalina, the Catalina immediately reported back to base and ships started hunting for them. By now it was 15:09 radar operators of the Annvelier detected several ships heading for them. It was the cruiser HMS Belfast and 2 destroyer the HMS Matapan and USS Charles Ausborne. They were quickly closing the distance and preparing for combat. Soon the ANS Annvelier begun opening fire, soon followed by the allied ships. Salvos begin creeping towards the Annvelier and Gregory, soon a shell hit the Annvelier near the rear tower damaging its auxiliary rangefinder and causing fires. Belfast would also be hit in the bow causing minimal damage to critical components but causing severe flooding, this would force her to slow down and end the chase without enough damage. But the battle had allowed the Annvelier to be tracked down by aircrafts from HMS Implacable. The torpedo bomber and dive bomber charged ahead to strike the two ships, AA defense of the Annvelier begun firing their fire power blanketing the sky with tracer rounds. The dive bomber releases their bombs after suffering losses in the dive, their bombs missed the Gregory but managed a hit of the Annvelier's rear turrets almost causing a chain reaction. Immediately after the torpedo bombers were pummeled with a hail of tracers and 6 inch rounds causing high casualties and turning back several bombers. In the end 3 torpedoes managed to be launched towards the Annvelier. Immediately the Annvelier turned away from the oncoming torpedoes with the skillful dodging all the torpedoes missed.

With the aircrafts retreating the two ship would finally make it to Arsenian fighter range. With air cover secured the ship would slow down to cruising speed to manage the damage they had received. Soon they would reach Pysura harbor, the VT fuze was safely brought to research centers and the technology reversed engineered. This would allow the Arsenian navy and army to effectively defend the home island from allied bombings throughout the latter years of the war.

The ship would continue its relatively quiet service, with the ship surviving the 2nd world war and remain in service up until 1950 when the ship was decommissioned and turned in to a museum ship. It now resides in the small town of Verdisi near the Ruena Channel.
