History
French destroyer 'L'Adroit' ('The skillful') was built in Dunkerque in 1927 and was the lead ship of her class. She and her class were a slightly enlarged version of the preceeding Bourrasque-class destroyers, built to further strengthen the Marine Nationale with new, modern destroyers following WWI. L'Adroit had a mostly uneventful career during the interwar years.
When WWII broke out, she took part in several operations during the early months of the war. L'Adroit saw action during the evacuation of Dunkerque as well, where she helped ferrying troops and escorting ships. On May 21st, 1940, her luck ran out when she was hit by a bomb from a He-111 and was heavily damaged, after which the captain decided to beach her. Once the ship came ashore near Malo-Les-Bains, the crew successfully evacuated without any casualties. Later the ship suffered an explosion in her forward magazine which tore off the entire bow section and set the wreck on fire. When the evacuation was over and the Germans took control of Dunkerque, L'Adroit's burnt out wreck became a popular subject of photography by German soldiers and film crews, becoming one of the well known visuals of the aftermath of the evacuation. A mockup of L'Adroit's wreck was briefly shown in a scene of Christopher Nolan's 2017 movie 'Dunkirk' and was also often featured on the film's promotional material. (the mockup itself was slightly inaccurate, missing one of her funnels)

Now about my build!
This build features:
- Accurate size and accurate speed (with functional propellers and rudder)
- Usable Primary cannons
- Usable torpedo tubes
- Usable Depth Charges
- Wave dampening system to make sailing on the ocean mod smoother
- Guns will try to compensate for the ship's rolling if you are firing broadside
- Full Bridge interior with usable equipment
- A walker model to walk around on the bridge
- Centralized aiming system with a detailed rangefinder HUD inside the walker's binoculars (so you don't have to switch cameras anymore)
- Highly detailed exterior
Controls:
Activation Groups:
AG1 - Activate guns + raise binoculars to the walker's eyes
AG2 - Disable guns and reset them to default position
AG5 - Walker activate/deactivate (deactivation will make him stay at where he is and won't move)
AG6 - Searchlights ON/OFF
AG7 - Window lights
Ship Controls:
VTOL - Propulsion
Trim - Steering
Cameras:
CAM1 "Capitaine Gerard" - Walker first person view
CAM2 "Capitaine Gerard (Orbit)" - Walker third person view (note: you can't turn him in this view)
CAM3 "salvo" - Orbit camera of the fired salvo
Info for the Gunnery HUD:
Colors:
- RED - Gun is not capable of reaching the set bearing
- ORANGE - Gun is capable of reaching the set bearing but is still doing so (they turn a bit a slow)
- GREEN - Gun is aiming at the set bearing
- BLUE - Guns are reset to default position (won't train to set bearing)The guns can hit your own ship, especially if you are aiming down (setting the ranging to a negative %) so be careful with that.
Range setting:
This HUD has been updated compared to Van Kinsbergen with a new feature. You'll find two new buttons "+%" and "-%" and a value between them. These button can be used to fine tune what percentage the "Range+" and "Range-" buttons will increase/decrease the range. For example, if you use the "+%" to set its value to 2%, then if you press the "Range+" button, the range will be increased by 2%
Other info:
You can use the bridge equipment (Steering wheel, Engine Order Telegraph) both in VR and with your mouse on screen, just click and hold the handles on them
The text on the Engine Order Telegraph is in French for the sake of authenticity, but here is a rough translation:

This was probably my most difficult project so far. Not only I started working on it long before the ship was even announced to be in WoWS (thus I had no 3D model to be a reference), but the ship in general was very obscure and unkown. I also made my job harder by deciding to build her as she was when she was sunk in 1940, which ruled out a lot of photographic reference (as well as the WoWS model too because that shows her as she was built) because she wasn't phtotgraped too much in her final years.
I spent hours google translating french language forums and other sources as english language sources on the ship were scarce. Overall, the research part of this project was quite difficult but I'm very happy I was able to pull it off and I'm very proud of the final build. I hope you guys will enjoy it too:)
@BMilan Very solution, although it feels a little complicated, but I will try to do it. I have always been troubled by the problem of the swing of my battleship.
@ff45 Well, if you are referring to the fact that it handles well on the ocean mod, that's because I used a special wave dampening system that works sort of like a suspension (Credit to ShiroNeko, he came up with the system). The basic idea is to place hinge rotators in the hull and set their input to "Disabled", then put the buoyancy blocks to their tips and use the nudge tool to nudge them away from the rotator (the further you move them, the smoother the system will work and bigger the waves it can handle). Because disabled rotators tend to "bend" a little when too much force is applied to them (such as the case of a very heavy ship) they will allow some amount of up and down movement for the buoyancy blocks, so when the ship hits a wave, it won't immediately jump up but instead the rotator will dampen it like a suspension
Really fantastic, very good work. Brother, can you tell me why this ship is so small and why the seaworthiness is so good?
there she is! beauty!
What a nice ship build. I'll learn it
@ThomasRoderick Yes, but my depth charges dont go that deep iirc. Or is it not working for you? (for the record, I only tested it on the ocean mod and it worked fine there, I'll test it on the vanilla water when I get home)
@BMilan You.... you do know that cannon projectiles disappear at 50ft/15m of depth, right?
@ShiroNeko Thanks Shiro:D
@ThomasRoderick Thanks:) the depth charges are just cannon parts with very low muzzle velocity and custom projectile lifetime to make them explode exactly at the right time and depth
@ThomasRoderick WAAAAAAAGH!
Beautiful
Quick question though: how does the depth charge work?
ZOGGIN' BOOTIFUL, BOSS!
I can testify to the effort given to this build is way more than what you think. For the part count, it is efficient and the details are unique and varied especially the hull number. New systems are put in place to simulate shooting with the use of buttons only and is highly accurate to a certain range. A lot of historical memoirs were used to create a perfect model alongside some existing game-engine renders. Even the difference of the ship to her sisters are put in for historical accuracy and that's only to name a few.
If you can run it without bricking your device, I suggest you do so.
Awesome job, BM:)
Amazing work B!
holy shit 2827 parts o n l y
This is going to be interesting to download...
@cooldude321 I included a slightly lower part (2024 instead of 2827) version on the top of the description, give that one a try, hopefully it'll work better. If not, I'm sorry then:(
cool but to many pieces my computer will melt into a pile of sludge
