AIM-140 Deity (Meteor)
Background
The AIM-140 Deity is an active radar guided, beyond-visual-range, air-to-air missile developed by Tadei Technologies for the Royal Federation Airforce. Deity is designed with multi-shot capability against long range agile targets such as jets, UAVs and cruise missiles in a heavy electronic countermeasures environment with ranges exceeding 150km. The missile has a maximum range of 350km with a no-escape zone of roughly 120km. Propelled by a solid-fueled ramjet motor, allowing the missile to cruise at a speeds exceeding mach 4 and providing the missile with thrust and mid-way acceleration to target intercept. A two-way datalink enables the launch aircraft to provide mid-course target updates or retargeting if required, including data from off-board third parties (AWACS or wingmen). The datalink is capable of transmitting missile information such as functional and kinematic status, information about multiple targets, and notification of target acquisition by the seeker. As of 2022, the missile has a reported cost of $2,275,000.
