About the history of Airbus A350-900/-1000

The A350 is the first Airbus aircraft largely made of carbon-fibre-reinforced polymers. It has a new fuselage designed around a nine-abreast economy cross-section, up from the eight-abreast A330/A340. It has a common type rating with the A330.The airliner has two variants: the A350-900 typically carries 300 to 350 passengers over a 15,000-kilometre (8,100-nautical-mile; 9,300-statute-mile) range, and has a 283-tonne (617,300-pound) maximum takeoff weight (MTOW); the longer A350-1000 accommodates 350 to 410 passengers and has a maximum range of 16,100 km (8,700 nmi; 10,000 mi) and a 319 t (703,200 lb) MTOW.

On 15 January 2015, the initial A350-900 entered service with Qatar Airways, followed by the A350-1000 on 24 February 2018 with the same launch customer. As of August 2023, Singapore Airlines is the largest operator with 63 A350-900 aircraft in its fleet.A350 orders stood at 1036 aircraft, of which 552 had been delivered and all were in service with 38 operators. The global A350 fleet had completed more than 1,025,000 flights on more than 1000 routes without accidents. It succeeds the A340 and competes against Boeing's large long-haul twinjets: the Boeing 787, the Boeing 777, and its successor, the 777X.

About the history of Lufthansa Airbus A350

In 2013, due to the outdated economy of Boeing 747-400 and Airbus A340-300 in the fleet, as well as the high age and number of cycles of some 747-400 and A340-300 manufactured in the late 1980s to mid-1990s, Lufthansa needed a new aircraft that could replace the old 747-400 and A340-300 with high economy. On June 14 of the same year, Airbus's new generation aircraft, A350 XWB (eXtra Wide Body), underwent its first test flight in Toulouse, which perfectly met the requirements. Following Lufthansa's demand, in September of the same year, Lufthansa officially confirmed an order to purchase 25 A350-900 aircraft and stated that the first aircraft would be delivered and put into use in 2016. Three years later, on November 29, 2016, Lufthansa's first A350 D-AIXA (Nürnberg) underwent its first test flight and was delivered to Lufthansa on December 19 of the same year. Subsequently, 11 A350-900 aircraft were delivered from early 2017 to early 2019, and on March 13, 2019, Lufthansa announced an additional order for 20 A350-900 aircraft. In 2020, Since the beginning of the year, due to the global spread of COVID-19, it has had a huge impact on the global aviation industry, This also forced Philippine Airlines to retire most of its A350-900 aircraft. However, since 2022, the recovery of the aviation industry has also led to a shortage of Lufthansa's capacity. In order to quickly replenish capacity and fill the gap caused by the retirement of older aircraft, Lufthansa purchased four A350-900 aircraft from Philippine Airlines from March to May 2022. After a year, on March 2, 2023, in response to the retirement of the older 747-400, A340-300, and A340-600 aircraft, as well as to cope with the low-carbon development of the aviation industry in the future, Lufthansa placed another order Ten A350-1000 and five A350-900.
