SAAB J29F "Tunnan"
[About SAAB J29F "Tunnan"]
Wikipedia
The SAAB J29F Tunnan was a jet fighter operated by the Swedish Air Force.
In 1945, Sweden ordered Saab to develop a new fighter aircraft. This was to keep up with the more advanced fighter developments of other countries, especially those using the new jet engine technology.
Saab's designers produced two designs. One, called the R1001, had a barrel-shaped fuselage and straight wings and was considered superior. Around this time, German technology for a Swept wing was introduced via Switzerland. The Swept wing was also incorporated into the R1001. The R1001 design was given the model number Saab J29 and ordered to be built as a prototype.
The prototype made its first flight on September 1, 1948. The test pilot who flew it commented that it was "an ugly duckling on the ground, but quick in the air. Its appearance earned it the nickname "Tunnan" (Swedish for "barrel").
Despite its appearance, the J29 was an excellent fighter. With a top speed of 1035 km/h, it was as good as the F86 and Mig15 of the US and USSR.
A notable mission was the deployment of nine J29Bs (attack aircraft) and two S29Cs (reconnaissance aircraft) to the Congo in 1968, demonstrating that the J29 was not only a fighter but also a multirole aircraft capable of ground attack and reconnaissance missions. It could be said that the J29 was the forerunner of the Swedish multirole aircraft, which is similar to the Saab 39 of today.
The J29F was the final version of the J29, with an afterburner on the engine and an additional dogtooth on the wing. The J29F was also able to carry Sidewinder missiles.
A total of 661 J29s were produced, and the aircraft was retired in 1965. Some of the aircraft are still flyable, and they make a charming appearance at air shows.

Ah, thanks for reading my profile. I'm glad to hear that.
@VOLOTOK
Thanks for the comment. Glad we like the same planes :)
@WinsWings
I see, you were born with a love of airplanes.
I too have loved Airplane since I was a kid... making and flying origami paper airplanes, reading books about airplanes and rockets, etc.
Oh, Falcon...so you are the same generation around Panavia Tornado too? lol
I just saw your profile, and I think it’s quite cool to see adults playing SP!
@AntonWings I love airplanes, and read about them since I could read. If you are about the same age as Gripen, I am a bit younger than Falcon. Lol
