Islander-class Missile Hydrofoil
History:
The Islander-class missile hydrofoil is a fast attack craft designed to operate either independently or as part of a carrier escort. They replace the Scorpion-class torpedo boats, which have been hampered in operations by short range and poor reliability. The depth charge racks of these craft are set to be fitted to frigates of the Saltwater Navy in the near future.
.
The Islander-class is armed with eight anti-ship missiles, each capable of dealing major damage to capital ships such as aircraft carriers. For self-defence they are equipped with eight short range surface to air missiles and two autocannons, which can either be operated remotely by a gunner on the bridge or as a CIWS system linked to the primary targeting radar.
.
Islander-class hydrofoils have a crew of fourteen sailors and two officers and a range of 1600 miles. This is good enough for the class to keep pace with the larger warships in a task force. They have an endurance of 21 days and can reach a speed of 80 knots, thanks to their twin gas turbines.
.
Early warning and fire control is provided by the seaScavenger radar system, a miniaturized version of the radar used by the Monument-class cruiser. It has a maximum detection angle of 190° across the bow and a range of 80 miles. It is primarily used to detect targets for the anti-ship missiles.
.
Thirty-five are in service with the Saltwater Navy, with three permanently based overseas in East Hamalia to protect the Northern Oilfields. Six have also been sold to the East Hamalian Navy and eleven to the Supreme Brightneau Navy.
