Background:
In the late 30s when the C1C was becoming obsolete and was need of replacement work started on the C2C. In 1939 the first prototype was completed and sent for inspection. It proved its worth and the 10 new ships entered production. They were all finished by 1943 and served until the late 50s. This class of light cruiser is meant to support heavier ships like battleships, dreadnoughts, or heavy cruisers. It could also support supply convoys in dangerous waters and could easily defend itself with the 250mm main guns and 100mm secondary guns.
