About British Airways:
British Airways plc (BA) is the flag carrier of the United Kingdom. It is headquartered in London, England, near its main hub at Heathrow Airport.
The airline is the second largest UK-based carrier, based on fleet size and passengers carried, behind easyJet. In January 2011, BA merged with Iberia, creating the International Airlines Group (IAG), a holding company registered in Madrid, Spain. IAG is the world's third-largest airline group in terms of annual revenue and the second-largest in Europe. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange and in the FTSE 100 Index. British Airways is the first passenger airline to have generated more than US$1 billion on a single air route in a year (from 1 April 2017, to 31 March 2018, on the New York-JFK – London-Heathrow route).

About the Boeing 747-400:
The Boeing 747-400 is a large, long-range wide-body airliner produced by Boeing Commercial Airplanes, an advanced variant of the initial Boeing 747. The Advanced Series 300 was announced at the September 1984 Farnborough Airshow, targeting a 10% cost reduction with more efficient engines and 1,000 nautical miles [nmi] (1,900 km; 1,200 mi) of additional range. Northwest Airlines became the first customer with an order for 10 aircraft on October 22, 1985. The first 747-400 was rolled out on January 26, 1988, and made its maiden flight on April 29, 1988. Type certification was received on January 9, 1989, and it entered service with Northwest on February 9, 1989.

About G-BNLY:
G-BNLY was one of 57 Boeing 747-400’s delivered to British Airways. Originally, British Airways (when the 747-400 was new) had an order for 16 confirmed orders and 12 additional options for the jet, but when the model was retired (due to the Covid pandemic), the airline had 57. British Airways chose the 747-400 due to its advanced digital cockpit, big capacity and range, and other optional benefits. This specific aircraft dons a special retro ‘Landor’ livery, a callback to the 1984-1996 livery.
Due to the 100 year anniversary, 4 aircraft (3 Boeing 747-400’s and 1 A319-100) were painted in special retro liveries. A BEA design for the A319, and a BOAC, Negus & Negus, and Landor livery for the 747’s. When the 747’s were retired, both the Landor livery (G-BNLY) and the Negus livery (G-CIVB) were preserved at Dunsfold and Cotswold airports. The BOAC livery (G-BYGC) was also planned to be preserved, but it never materialised, and was scrapped at St Athan airport.
This specific aircraft had its first flight at 25/1/1993, is 32.3 years old, and was tested at Everett’s Paine Field (PAE/KPAE) with an unknown test registration. The Manufacturing Serial Number (MSN) is 27090, and its line number is 959.
This specific aircraft has been in service with the following airlines:
- British Airways, from 10/2/1993 - 23/3/2020, with the registration G-BNLY
- named “City of Swansea” from 10/2/1993 - ??/1/2002, ??/3/2019 - present
- painted in "Landor (1984-1997) retro" special colours ??/3/2019
- Withdrawn from service 23/3/2020
- Stored at Bournemouth Airport (BOH/EGHH) 31/3/2020 - 15/6/2020
- Stored at Cardiff Airport (CWL/EGFF) 15/6/2020 - 5/12/2020
- Preserved at Dunsfold Aerodome (???/EGTD) at 5/12/2020
The aircraft has since been preserved a Dunsfold for 5 years as a location to visit.
