• McDonnell Douglas DC-10 3.3 years ago

Fact: During the period of 70's, The DouglasCommercial-10 was recently Introduced. Airlines were trying to cut corners in the maintainance of the engine: Instead of the Normal and safe way: Removing The engine from the Pylon. Airlines saw it as Expensive, Time consuming, and Too many connections (around 200 of them). They decided to: Remove the Pylon along with the Engine. Now it has only 3 Connections, Less Expensive, and Less Time Consuming. And that led to the crash of AM191.

@VChart 0 IQ person ever. Anyway, it meant to sound with Activate6 and Air-Air on. It it a safety system that prevents a Mid-Air Collision, Basically when a plane Strikes another plane Mid-Air. It is very similar to TCAS.

Like with any other system like GPWS or Ground Collision Warning System (Warns your plane when you are too close to the ground and pending disaster) or other, it is made for safety reasons. After a DouglasCommercial-9 Aeroperu Flight 498 collided with a piper, TCAS was being developed at that time.

• Tenerife Airport Disaster, but in SimplePlanes 3.3 years ago

The sequence of Events that led this this Disaster.
True Story
March 27 1977, Two planes Pan Am 1736 and the dutch KLM 4805 are going into the Gran Canaria Airport, in the Canary Islands. A terrorist bombing happened as the planes were heading into the airport. The effect caused Gran Canaria Airport to Shut down and force all flights into the island of Tenerife, Canary Islands.

KLM 4805 and PA 1736 were diverted in the Tenerife island, along with many other flights. The KLM flight was instructed to go first in landing followed by the Pan Am. As Los Rodeos Airport was handling more Planes as Usual, they decided to make the runway as a taxi-way. Meanwhile KLM decided to take the passengers in the terminal. Pan Am was going to take them next, but the terminal is already full. After a couple of hours, Gran Canaria Airport reopens. KLM decided to refuel first, but after the reopening, the plans backfired. Then the Controller decided to take both of that "Jumbo Jets" and Takeoff, The fog has rolled in as planned. They thought that after these Planes, it will go back as usual. It was instructed so that Pan Am will Follow KLM, go to the "third one Charlie 3". While KLM will do a 180, Then takeoff. But a misunderstanding in the Pan-Am crew was unfamiliar, and confused by the airport. After figuring out "the third one, 1 2 3 the third one" C3, they decided it was too difficult for a 747 to do a 143 degree turn 2 times. The Pan Am crew decided to continue to the C4, it was much easier to do a 45 degree turn for a 747. Meanwhile the KLM crew Begins the take off roll while Pan Am was still taxiing in the runway. Covered by Heavy Fog, The first officer reminds him. Captain said "Yeah i know that, go ahead and ask.". The First Officer said, The Air Traffic Controller said that after "Take Off, Climb into 2, Turn Right heading Las Palmas." The KLM captain thought that was a take-off clearance and throttles up. Then the Pan Am crew thought they saw a Moving Aircraft. Then when it did, they throttled up and begins turning right. The KLM Captain then Pulls the yoke, Tail Striking the Plane. The Plane finally Lift off, but it was too late, it hit the Pan Am Flight. Everyone in the KLM flight didnt survive. Some in the Pan Am survived and was able to escape. 61 survived.

Investigation

The Spanish Report Concluded that it was the Decision of the Captain in the mistakenly thought "Takeoff Clearance" after saying "After Takeoff, Climb 2 Turn right heading Las Palmas". One of the recommendations show that say "After Departure" if "After Takeoff", say Takeoff when you want to say "Takeoff Clearance".
The Dutch Report Concluded that it was the Miscommunication and Language. A Spanish Air Traffic Controller trying to speak Aviation English.

@DanishArrasuliZen That one plane Pitched Very steeply. Due to the High Angle of attack, Engine 4 Flamed repeatedly (Surge). As a result of nearly 90* Degree Pitch Up, The Airflow is disrupted into the wings causing it to not provide lift (Stall). It eventually crashes into the ground.

Chalk Airline Flight 101

The other is caused due to a very s-h,8.t Maintainance. A Crack is formed in the Right wings. Years earlier, Maintainance saw the crack. They want it to stop, so they Drilled it. It was called, a "Stop Drill Hole". But it kept growing, the stop drill hole didn't work. Even as the mechanic drilled more holes, the crack kept growing. Eventually, After the third Stop Drill, An Attempt was made. They just Added it with Doubler on the Interior and Exterior Surface on the Wing. But the Doublers didn't work Either. The crack on the plane's skin continued to grow. And fuel leaks appear. It was repaired again and again. But they kept happening.
.
Just 2 days before the crash. The Fuel Leak Happened Again. While doing Routine Maintenance on the Grumman Mallard, a Maintenance came across Fuel dripping from the Right Wing. They just added Chemical Sealant in the Fuel tank. The sealant takes a day to dry. Then the plane can be refueled and be returned to service. It just could've be a clue, The cracks on the wing tip is just the tip of the iceberg. But there's a much more problem with the wing's structure. The crack were in a very critical beam called "Z-Stringer". The maintainance also tried to repair the Z-Stringer. But they didnt went back in it and re-inspected the area. Instead they only added chemical Sealant to the area to make it Leak-Proof, and concealed the damage. The broken Z-Stringer weakened the entire Wing. Without it, when taking off and landing the Plane's Skin was absorbing the force. Overtime, the skin began to crack as well. And then...

Engine looks like a Pratt & Whitney JT8D Turbofan, but except it is made in 1963. What type of engine is this? Turbofan.

[General Electric C805 Turbojet](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Electric_CJ805) is made in Late 1950's, perhaps this is the engine model?
[Pratt & Whitney JT3D / TF33 Turbofan](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pratt_%26_Whitney_JT3D) ?
[Rolls Royce RB.80 Conway Turbofan](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolls-Royce_Conway) ?

Maybe it is a Turbojet Armstrong Siddeley Viper engine since it was made in april 1951?
de Havilland Gyron another engine from 1953?
This General Electric J79 Afterburner-Turbojet right here?
Pratt & Whitney J52 Turbojet ?

What is the Engine installed in this aircraft?
it might be a turbojet since there is a fuel ignited air like
at the back of the engines.
