@ReinMcDeer I suppose the use of ECM pods was considered enough for USAF fighters and fighter-bombers. On that note the USN had internal ECM equipment on their aircraft (not at first, but certainly as the war ran on)
@Falkenwut Both planes are setup the exact same way for paint schemes, so if you wanted to have the High-Viz scheme with missiles just repaint the Low-Viz
. I am thinking 40 multiverses ahead of y'all
@UserP194 Lockheed Martin bought out GD, so now they have ownership over the Viper. Same with the Hornets; originally made by McDonnell Douglas, now Boeing.
@EdamCheese6 Or the classic "rough field conditions" thing Russia has always been good at doing.
.
There isn't a flying prototype yet, so I'm trying to keep speculation to a minimum. I don't think anybody except maybe Sukhoi/UAC knows what they want with the project.
Ah yes...the 2020's era Spinosaurus. I love the weirdness of this thing so much. As much as people want to stick to JP3 era Spino, this thing feels like an animal and not a glorified movie monster. I'd rather have that over awesomebro.
.
I like the colors on this build too. Verr minty :)
@ollielebananiaCFSP Honestly? Because for as much as I stomp all over my builds I'm usually pretty happy with how each of them turn out, warts and all. I can do better but it's gonna be on my terms. It's how I've always been.
.
Plus my crappy Dell laptop (with an i3, for pete's sake) can only handle so much lol. I've definitely learned a lot since starting to make stuff on SP, but my overarching limit is that my computer can run each plane with tolerable slowdown. Hence trying to keep them to reasonable part counts and a certain 'style' I've developed.
@IceCraft Bruh have you seen what some people put out on this website?
.
I do my best to fill a specific niche in terms of build style, but overall I'm pretty meh as a builder.
@WolfSpark All the research I did (which isn't much for a lot of these planes, to be fair) lists a pretty small wing area for the Tornado, and trying to stick to that made this thing pretty much unflyable with wings swept. So I stuck hidden wings in the fuselage.
.
I pretty much said flight performance had to take priority over technical accuracy
@Tang0five I see ANG F-15's fly over my house on semi-regular basis, so I have an idea of what you must've felt.
.
Did a little digging (AKA Wikipedia browsing), seems like the Tornados you saw were the IDS version. There's an RAF base located near that area that houses Typhoons now.
@DuneBoi Interviews with Tornado F3 pilots give a g-rating with tanks on as 2.5g? That turning circle is nearly as big as the main part of Wright of the main part of Yeager island! (Maybe not but I'm too lazy to properly test lol) That's just...so weird to think about.
@DarkMarble1 Tornado F3 did have auto wing sweep, but the British disabled it on operational fighters. Tried to get it to work but I kinda still suck at funky trees so oof.
.
Also that "British tea" (didn't even say what kind of English tea...shame on you) has far more class and restraint than that gross Freedom Barrel...ugh, I just gagged a little saying that lol
@Walvis I wanted to, but my computer crashed a couple times while building or flying this so I substituted XML modded Interceptors. I think they at least get the look across, so I'm fine with this. Just got a bit scared of having too many larger pieces on the build.
.
I could do a variant with proper AS-6 missiles and share as unlisted for ya if you'd like?
It's possible this was intended to compliment the XB-70 Valkyrie bomber. Both aircraft were to be powered by the same engines - the XB-70 had 6 of the YJ-93's, the XF-108 had 2. In theory this plane might have not only served as an interceptor but as an escort for the Valkyries. You can definitely tell the two planes have a similar layout, no doubt because North American Aviation were involved in designing both planes. The XF-108 never had a flying prototype; just a mockup as far as I remember.
.
I first learned about this plane from a series called Secret Superpower Aircraft in its episode on fighters. It definitely has a look to it, and who knows how effective it would have been in service. Always nice to see more builds of truly obscure airplanes.
Congrats to first and second place. redbear's kinda reminds me of the iL-62, so it's funny to see two Russian and one US jet as the winners lol
.
That third place guy seems like a total loser though. Bet he smells too. Screw him lol
@SyntheticL I did :)
.
@Lanc @ACEPILOT109 I don't tag, sorry. Also Lanc read what I wrote under the image cuz I already expressed interest in having auto turrets.
@Cyieed462 Iz all gud friend. :)
.
I feel the obligation to get more Ruso-Soviet (my term for russian/soviet) builds done on my profile after so many western planes
@Inuyasha8215 Hi, replying late lol
.
Unfortunately the build just isn't well balanced and the flaps have far too much downward authority when deployed fully. Plus the engine and total drag points mean it's a dog to fly. When I have time I need to give a much needed flight model update to this thing. :/
@SyntheticL Here it is...finally. Hope it's to your liking; I handcrafted the decals and I'm actually pretty happy with how they look. I copied the paint scheme from your F-16 as close as I could cuz...I dunno, I lack the imagination or initiative to try and mess with your lore lol
@Mustang51 I wanna start collecting model planes sometime. Many a hobbymaster on that list
+1@YuryVendiktov It didn't. It just had the canards.

@ReinMcDeer Oh, I see what you were getting at. Sorry, I'm too f-wording smooth brain to pick up on obvious things right now.

Looking good! Nice afterburner color
Many bombs, such kaboom. Very excellent. :)

Yes but I hate how it flies, so...sorry, British friend. I butchered yer gal. At least it looks pretty
@RAF1 Thankies, friend. I dunno how many Tornados are on the site so I figured I'd give it a shot.

I quite like the livery; the blue arrow on white body just looks right.
@ReinMcDeer They wanted to ensure the optimal airflow possible through different AoA for dogfighting, so yes. Ultralight is correct
+1Not bad at all. Not the sort of handling that I shoot for, but it works great. Can't believe people are still using my old F-14A build to improve on.
