This started out as an experiment to see how fast I could get an aircraft to go.
I have a version of this with 31 BFE300 motors on it and it just is not that fast.
It appears drag tends to cancel out speed increase, the more engines you put on, not to mention fuel use. Yikes!
The other thing I discovered is that I had accidently made a pretty good aircraft, a little rough in places, but not bad, so I tweaked it and made it pretty.
Lots of work done on this with "Overload", which you don't need to have because of the way it does things.
See if you can figure out what has been done ;)
I forgot to mount the AA missiles, but people can do that if they want them. :P
@gunkanmarch I downloaded this today.
It's a very nice piece of work and far bigger than anything I am likely to make.
One thing I did to make it load faster for me, was removed all of the aircraft, which helped a lot.
While doing that, I managed to grab a complete aircraft from the deck and once I realized that, I saved it as an assembly.
I also, stuck a cockpit on it to make it 'real' to the game and dropped it at Yeager and discovered those aircraft are full size.
Who made them?
I want to know, because after much looking at various things and tweaking stuff, I have a flyable version of one of those aircraft.
Can I upload it, with the associated acknowledgements to you and whoever made the aircraft?
Yep, it's BIG, really big.
This started with me wanting to find out just how big a wingspan you could have on a plane and still manage to get off the ground at a runway, the runway in question being Yeager.
Experimented with my Gyro Jet -Failed and got the wingspan to a little over 300 feet.
I think the game scales the aircraft so you always have enough room to get off the ground, but don't quote me on that, because, well the wingspan on this is 360 odd feet and the wings only just hang off the edge of the runway.
I have another version in the works essentially the same as this but with 'pretty' wings, as in they have a shape instead of just being flat.
Getting it right is causing me some headaches.
This flies like it is on wires, smooth and steady.
As always, feel free to mess with this. ;)
@AWESOMENESS360 Get the mod, 'Overload', then do a little research and you will be able to do it yourself.
Not being nasty or anything, but it took me 5 minutes to figure out how to tweak an Interceptor missile in a similar fashion, that's with the research to find the right variable to do it.
Go here ---> https://www.simpleplanes.com/Forums/View/729507/SimpleCheats-a-slightly-comprehensive-guide
to find a link to what looks like a complete list of inputs and other variables you can use to modify stuff.
This idea comes from a youtube video that showed a similar concept that did not seem to work very well.
I thought I could do better, so here is my effort.
The aircraft could fly better, but it flies well enough, I managed to get it down safely a few times.
It has a fairly low stall speed for such a small main wing. Go figure.
@TurkishAirliner If it's your first plane, it is pretty good.
It takes time to get any sort of an idea on how to tweak/place things to make it look nice.
The flipping on take off thing is probably too much thrust , at a guess.
Try taking off using just enough power to get off the ground and throttle up slowly once in the air.
I'll download this and see what I can do, no promises though, I haven't been here that long myself.
Edit: Downloaded and 'fixed' to a point.
Use 40% thrust or a little more to get off the ground without it flipping out.
Your landing gear concept is good, but landing is hard as it does not seem to lock into landing position for me.
Removed and now using in game landing gear. Large Landing Gear for the front, Wing gear for the rear, just need to tweak placement of wing gear for better stability on the runway.
Cosmetic stuff will need to wait a bit until I feed myself. Should have a result of some sort sometime tonight.
Do I upload when complete?
All my yammering about auto aiming turrets and here is something that will probably help a lot if I look at how you 'predict' things in this mod.
If I find something useful, is it ok for me to use it?
Thanks in advance @WNP78
@Minecraftpoweer Located a list of XML inputs by the same guy who made the 'Overload' mod, WNP78.
Tweaked an "Interceptor" missile so that it's lock on is set to 180 degrees. Use 'maxTargetingAngle' to do that in 'Overload'. That missile now locks on to anything within view of the cockpit if you are looking straight ahead.
The missile has some sort of link to a tracking system built in, if that could be linked to a gun, then we would be well on the way to having a turret that actually tracks a target.
Going to tag @WNP78, maybe they will have some tips, if they are still around.
So here is the 'pretty' version.
I put in an effort to give the main wings some form, instead of just being a 'flat' sheet. I completely rebuilt the wings in the usual fashion. I think it turned out rather well.*
Everything works, to open the bomb bay use the VTOL controls, but ONLY DOWN other wise things will get messy.
There are two extra cameras, one points down, to possibly help with bomb aiming and one pointing elsewhere.
Yes, those are 'Cleaver' Air to Ground missiles on the wings, watch your speed when launching those babies.
Also note the Air to Air missiles, think of them as a surprise for any fighters that might be looking for an easy kill.
Note that the bomb bay seems to be half empty. The reason is if the bombs are placed too far back, they get hung up on the wall, which is why the 6 Boom 25 I was going to put in there, are not in there, the Boom 50's need the room to fall.$
@Hyattorama Tag! :)
*EDIT: Added some ego stroking. :P
$EDIT: Extra info
Well. It seems I must have been so eager to have this work that I was seeing things that were not actually happening or maybe they were, but then 'broke' for some unknown reason.
Long story short, there is a version in the works that uses the 'Overpower' XML editor to add controls surfaces to structual wings.
The only other way is to use groups of short normal wings in a similar manner in order to stop them 'flapping', which would probably be even more tedious than trying to get this way to work, which as I have said previously is very fiddly.
On that note, I do have a sort of complete version of the aircraft, bomb doors and so on, no bomb sight..... yet and waiting on an answer to a forum post about Turrets and the game AI before I put those on.
There no dumb questions, seriously.
Random useless (?) information; did you know the swastika, if reversed, used to be a religeous symbol? I can't remember which one though.
@Hyattorama No idea if this is how you tag someone. I hope it is.
Anyway, some advances. I have a version which now has clean wings.
Unfortunatley doing that also 'broke' some of the control surface installations. The wings look much better than the 'Frankenstein' version though.
Once I get further along, such as putting doors on the bomb bay, which will happen after figure out just exactly how I'm going to set it up so it is all nice and neat, then I may post that version.
I also have an idea on how to make a 'bomb sight', for better bombing, but we will see how that goes. :F
It's big and not very pretty, but it flies pretty well.
The usual controls for flight, trim does what it normally does and controls the flaps on the main wings.
I realized the other day that you can put a fuselage/fuel tank on pretty much any other part and have it stick.
So, I made a very small fuselage part, stuck one on either end of a wing and managed to get it to stick to structual wing.
Instant control surface. Not really.
It is fiddly way to do it, one end will stick, while the other flaps, then the other way around, but if you stick to it, you can make it happen.
The tail assembly took me a good 1/2 hour to get right.
All of the control surfaces are main wings, as that is what I got to work the first time, so every control surface is 'hand tuned' to do a job.
As a side note, H.A.B means "High Altitude Bomber", that is why there is big hole in the middle of the plane.
My next job is to figure out how to put doors there that don't make the plane explode on generating. lol
Anyway, have a look, tell me what you think.
I love big aircraft other people have built, but the rotator noise can be annoying after a while. This way might be a quieter way to do it and with some cosmetic work this won't look like something cobbled together by a crazy man..... Oh wait it was!
Muahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!
It's good when you finally make an aircraft that will do pretty much anything you ask of it, within reason of course.
I don't think this one can get into space, not without serious jets on it.... which I've done. heh
@Efacel Interesting. I had a plane that was crashing the game. I armed the Nobler (lol) and something must have gone wrong and corrupted the file just enough so that it would load in the editor, but not in game.
Also, Nobler with dual gatling and long/short range missles vs F15C Eagle..... Nobler wins half the time. hehehe
So, a updated 'modern' version of the Nobler. Good for 450 mph flying straight and level.
A twin engine version is on the horizon and possibly a jet powered version, small jets mind you.
I won't be uploading those though, unless people want them, as it is more as a form of 'what if I do this to it' thing.
Besides, it will terrible if I don't do it right.
Also, I noticed the Nobler has some similarities to a certain WWII aircraft of British design. Interesting.
Yep, my first aircraft made (or at least based on) the actual plans of a real aircraft, albeit a control line model.
The wing span is a little bit wider (50.6 vs 50) and the fuselage is a little longer (40.4 vs 38.5 (does the game measure from the very nose to the very end of the aircraft?)), but this is pretty much a match for the real item.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that I hardly had to trim this at all. Once you think it's up to flying speed, tap the up button and off she goes.
Try letting the computer fly "Yeti Scramble" vs another propeller powered plane, it's a fun ride.
You will note that this is the "NO ID" version. I have a version that has my Fathers old Club registration on it, but doing it made the aircraft several hundred pounds heavier! I used fuselage tanks made as small as possible, squared them, then used the nudge tool to place them.
I also painted it the same color blue as my Fathers model, because nostalgia. :p
I hit 20K+ mph with my huge boat, "Poseidons Spear: Ledgendary Ghost". No mods, or anything, just a vast number of jet engines. Too bad it steers like a pig. lol
This was a week or so back, so I'd need to give it a run again to find out how far past 17K* mph it went.
As for the screen shot, I tried to add one a few days ago and ended up having to place a link to it instead. That is if you are trying to post it the forum here.
*Oops, I got it wrong, my bad. I must have had the 'Overpower' mod running at the time.
Here is current proof of the 'top speed' reached with this craft.
Follow the link to Youtube --> https://youtu.be/f2vyxqawOtE
Keep in mind that this thing goes faster as it uses fuel, so at a guess, I reckon it will top out somewhere around 17500 mph.
Strange things sometimes come from failed projects/ideas.
This is one of those.
Forgot to add in the main thing;
Wingtip landing gear: absolutely needed, has a tendancy to 'fall over' without them if you wait too long.
Playing with this today, I discovered that it can indeed carry much heavier weapons than this has on it. I had 4 'Cleaver' air to ground on it and it got off the ground. Turned out better than I thought. :)
Another, jet powered plane is on the horizon, having issues with it wanting to go for the stars. It's a little bit interesting, I'm going to mess with engine angles to see if that will help. I can't do anything else with the wings without making it look silly. lol
Not very complex, but it works. It will get off the ground at lower power settings, but the rear wheels tend to lift first, followed by the nose wheel. The plane then noses over just a tiny bit and bounces the nose wheel, but it will still get off the ground, but it's a bumpy way to do it. :p
Sorry all. It seems this needs a LOT more work than I thought. Current version seems to 'weather cock' so the sail points into the wind, so steering happens via the sail instead of the rudder.
However, if the wind is directly behind the boat, it does seem to pick up speed. Odd.
It's a boat.
I seem to be doing this right now. Idea taken from the book, 'Sahara', written by Clive Cussler (the movie was lousy) where the heros take an old aircraft and turn it into a land yacht, using one of the wings as a sail.
Be warned there are far too many engines on this thing.
You will get the old 'your engines are not getting enough air' warning, but that is because some of them are underwater at 'takeoff', but that soon fixes itself.
Steering is the same deal as the Mk II.
The ship itself, well it's an experiment in madness, maybe a proof of concept (bigger is more stable and so on).
I won't say just how many engines are on this, but I had 4 engines boosted using the 'Overpower' mod and decided it was 'cheating'.
There are ZERO, ZIP, NADA, Mods used in this craft!
A few notes for this beasty.
Steering is via the twin sets of jets pointing to the side.
Activation is '1' and they are set up on the YAW keys. Take note that if you modify the ship and use mirror, these motors will have to have one side set to inverted. They also work better when underway, but not too fast.
Conventional steering doesn't work, ship goes too fast and it 'breaks' causing instabilty at speed.
Trim works backwards, because science.
Try to trim the ship 'flat', that will get you more speed, but if you can get it up the 'hydro steps' underneath, it will go faster quicker. I haven't managed to do that.....yet. I think it needs more engines. ;)
Tip for this boat. Landing gear exits, just in case land happens. Trim works in reverse because physics. Top speed before it gets the 'wobbles' is around 600-610 mph. Lets go for the water speed record! Just for laughs of course.

@TurkishAirliner Yes, there is a lot of it.
Did you count the engines?
From memory there is somewhere around 400 of them mounted on that crazy thing.
