@2416creeper
Just play around with the lift and centers of mass/lift and stuff. This model is something I've been using and working on for a few months now.
If you put enough air brakes on a plane it will basically stall mid-flight. And for landing, since you probably should have cut the engines and started braking anyways, the air brakes can take you from 700 to 0 pretty darn quick.
I've been waiting for a challenge like this. The day the beta for the new update came out I thought "huh these new parts could sure make exploring the terrain easier."
It'd be neat if there was secretly an island way out there, like holy s_ why is this out here far, that we havent found because all of the planes that have gone out there have been going a billion miles an hour up in the stratosphere (or maybe that's just me :P )
I think a great way to do something like this is to have additional islands added, with some themed worlds (ie. city, sweeping hills of a countryside, Mountain range, etc) that could be bought separately.
So it'd be like, you buy a city world for $1-2 and it would replace the standard sandbox with that world. Then you could change between the different areas in the sandbox start screen.
@SpiritusRaptor
Love the plane, but I encountered something strange.
I was taking this fine bird in for a landing (Murphy airport), and came to the end of the runway. Surely enough, I hadn't slowed enough and ended up bumping into the rightmost hangar. The plane proceeded to explode entirely, my cockpit was sent to mars then down through the earth! Agh!
Thanks for the replies guys, glad to see I'm not the only one that feels this way.
@KingDeadshot Yeah I have a feeling a lot of the newer users are younger kids that, hey, might be totally great at making stuff, and others who constantly post the same plane 5 times with a slightly different plane.
It really all depends on what kind of look the plane is supposed to have. Could be more realistic, with two slightly canted tails, could be experimental with some crazy configuration like Bravo, or more utilitarian, like Charlie.
What I did was part clip small engines into the front of the engine space, then put a medium in the back. doesn't look super realistic, but it's better than using a flat headed fuselage piece. I did this on my IL-28.
I think an essential block that should come into the game is a resizable air intake. I mean sure, the little square one we have along with the smaller one are great, but making rounded intakes is impossible, unless you use fuselage for fake intakes, but then you need to put real ones elsewhere on the plane. Also, without this, my dreams of making a decent looking Q-5 Fantan aren't looking too good :(
I love it! The only thing I changed was the sensitivity of the wheels in front. If you set them to 100% sensitivity, the car handles a lot better. Other than that, it's awesome!
I always (unless it's a name I made specific for it) put a -XX to show how many variations there have been on a plane. The only exceptions are when I'm going for a replica (which is pretty infrequent :P )
I think the highest version I'm up to is 27 on my Thunderbird. Had that thing around since the beginning, so naturally it's had its fair share of tweaks and changes.
I've always found that uploading during the times when people are most likely to be on helps. Basically late afternoon weekdays and almost anytime weekends.
That and having good screenshots of the build helps others see just what you've made. We (or just me...) all hate those users that upload a single screenshot of a super-close up of one piece of their plane.
also, use ANY other paint than the original colors, it makes you look more knowledgeable.

I smell a second victory coming... >:)
I'm in @Nickasaurus
Looks amazing, dude. Better cockpits than what I normally do.
So I take it I won @Nickasaurus?
Thanks for getting me to silver, too.
@Nickasaurus lol its ok man.
So... who won the challenge?
@Nickasaurus
coughCredit the original designer*cough
( ͠° ͜ʖ °)
@icecoldlava
Lol I remember when you made the first version of this thing. I like it.
That doesn't mean it's better than my Helios >:)
Yea I like the design a ton, but it doesn't handle hills and humps very well.
Dude... where has this detacher been all my life...
I love how the other entries are all green and then mine sticks out like a RED thumb? Get it? Because it's red?
@Nickasaurus
@Nickasaurus
Lol thanks. Also, I like your name ;)
What I normally go through before I make something new:
Run out of ideas
Look around at new planes made by the community
Be inspired!
Realize that that idea was stupid!
Remember that model of a plane you have from when you were 5
Look to see that the model is missing its wings
Google search for plane ideas
Be inspired! This time with a much more do-able idea!
Build 9000 iterations of that plane over the course of a few weeks
Put finishing touches on the design and upload it!
The first one ever uploaded, if I remember right, was the P-51 made by one of the devs; I think it was Tarpley.

@Nickasaurus Is it really that bad?
Not too shabby.

@ProKillaV12 Wall of text + all caps = chill out
But I get your point, I care about these devs too. It'd be a real shame for them to have to go out of business.
@ProKillaV12 o lawd

@FighterCrafter14
Nah it's ok.

God contrails and exhaust trails would be such a neat addition...
or even being able to mod engines so they gave off those same smoke efects would be super cool.

Christ almighty what have you done...
For being called a swan it's not terribly graceful... nice plane though.
See this is how variations of planes should always be like. New paint (looks great btw), different aspects and even a new variant.

Oh the description makes the title seem more sensical.
Explanation of what...?
The roll is a little slow, but other than that it's great!
It's hard doing those air intakes, isn't it? I tried with my IL-28 but i like they way you did them.
I love it! The only thing I changed was the sensitivity of the wheels in front. If you set them to 100% sensitivity, the car handles a lot better. Other than that, it's awesome!
@Skua And so the race to build the P1214/6 is on!
@Skua You mind if I try and use those as my next project?

You could at least credit the original...
*experimental and from what I can tell, the additions don't do a whole lot by the means of taking off/landing.
@Meawk Oh i had no idea that was a legit issue I just thought it was just people being dumb...

If you find a timeline of planes built over the years I guarantee you you'll find something worth building.
Keeps exploding from overspeeding on me... looks great though.
@Stampede looks cool, handles well, and is pretty quick.
Looks mighty cool (dunno if that's because it's a variant of another plane...), but it's a pain to pitch with.
I've come to like the MIG 1.42 and its variations. Pretty simple design, but looks cool and isn't a pain the butt to make.
