I've got an idea for anyone who's had trouble selecting a part inside of another part. What if there was a drop down menu that has a list of all the parts on your current design. no more will you have to jerk the camera angle and scroll angrily as you accidentally drag the wrong part away. Now you'd simply scroll down a list of all parts (maybe in order of when they were placed so you'd know approximately how far to scroll down) to find that hidden engine or those flares or that rotator! @Gestour I added you on steam a while ago because I have some pictures to further demonstrate this idea. I also made a 3D model of a 20mm Revolving autocannon.
@Dizzle2233 Yeah That's because the lettering on the underside of the wing creates asymmetric drag. I don't know a way to disable drag but I did disable the mass on those parts. My other Hornets don't have this problem to that extent, although the refueling probe does rock them a little bit.
Nice! I wish the default engines were huge and detailed like this! It would be a fun and realistic challenge to build around though it is simpleplanes so I understand why they are small and simple.
@BroAeronautics I think he does it because it helps bring out the best in builders. if you build a plane and say its done and it only has say 70 parts, that gives you room to go back in and work more detail into it. Maybe you could swap out those stock landing gear blocks for custom gears with rotators and hinges or give the wings a realistic airfoil shape etc..
@DPSAircraftManufacturer If you select a part and do Shift+K it connects to whatever it thinks the part is touching. It can be tricky when working with movable parts sometimes. This only works on PC as far as I know.
@RhysBrown I didn't know the Jaguar was the origin of the Tornado. I'm from the US so I'm not too familiar with non-US aircraft. Now that you mention it, I do see the similarities. especially the canopy glass shape and the intakes being smaller and raised up. Thanks for the fun fact. I made a sort of Tornado based on the stock Hellkeska a while back. I might have to make a more realistic Tornado too!
@RhysBrown @BroAeronautics I'm not too familiar with the Mirage so I left the name pretty blank. It can be whatever version you think it is. I didn't get the wing shape perfect there's a little too much length at the tips but that's so the leading edge flap part works. I might make the version with the forward canards for extra maneuverability.
I've got another idea. This one sounds like it might not be too difficult but I don't make mods so I don't know. What if there was a mod that changed the "Orbit Camera" to auto aim at whatever you're targeting. if you have no target, it would stay as the normal orbit camera. I think it would be useful and fun for dogfights and maybe races too. maybe it would be like the cockpit view where you can drag the view around but when you let go it snaps back to the target.
@AmazingAidan Yeah that's definately my biggest fear at any airshow. They're doing so many dangerous maneuvers that could easily turn into a disaster if the pilot makes one wrong move. Coincidentally I've had multiple dreams of planes crashing and almost hitting me. It might have something to do with a Cessna crashing into my friends house back in middle school. It created a small blackout in his neighborhood.
@TRD6932 How does one go about putting in a custom thumbnail? I've been out of the loop for a while. As for the description, it just feels like homework. I have fun building planes and ultimately it is just a video game so whatever I put down is fiction anyway. Have fun with it! Maybe it's a craft from an alternate universe where the US and Russia are allies. Maybe it's a design based on Intel retrieved by spies. Or maybe, just maybe, it's actually a car and the fact that it flies is purely accidental.
Holy cow does this thing have firepower! Like a mini AC-130. One thing I'd recommend is putting the rear landing gears further forward somewhere a few feet behind the Center of Mass to allow the plane to pitch up on takeoff. I also noticed a random floating throttle part way down to the left. I must say it is satisfying carpet bombing the ground convoys. Keep it up!
Whoah! How did you get the cockpit view camera to move left and right as if looking over your shoulder? I think by default it just pivots in a fixed point. By the way, were you inspired by the DCS MiG-19?
@BaconRoll I've got a plane in the making that could work for this challenge but I've got a few questions: 1: Does it need to keep the exact colors you used or can I tweak them a bit? 2: The plane I'm working on fits a light CAS (Close Air Support) role. Will that work? 3: My build style is a bit different so what are you looking for on that aspect?
@AluminumOvercast Right now I'm sticking with Frenzy. I think the designations used a code with F standing for Fighter like in Fulcrum, Flanker, Foxbat, Fishbed..
@BroAeronautics @AluminumOvercast thanks for the suggestions. I don't want to take the name "Fagot" away from the MiG-15 but I do like Frenzy. I'm open to more suggestions.
I like the two tone canopy glass though that thick ring looks like it would obstruct the pilots field of view. I can't tell if this would have a crew of one, two, or four. I like it though!
I like the use of intake blocks to give it that livery! I use them a lot for fighter canopy windows but I've never thought to use it like this. Nice job!
Nice! I love the detail, though I agree with @Supercraft888 on the landing gears and flight stability. I recomend using structural wings instead of primary, vertical, and horizontal wings as the structural wings don't have that wobble when pulling tight turns. if you have the Overload Mod you can then edit them to have control surfaces. I like the two tone color scheme you got. I've always found that part tricky to make.
Pro tip: Eat a can of beans while driving. You turn a lot of heads and you'll be living on the edge.
+9what if you set his eyebrows to the throttle axis so he looks sad on the ground but when you throttle up, he looks angery or determined?
+6Is there any way to make the cockpit capsule into a gimbal that self levels during pitch/yaw/roll motions? That would be cool to see.

+4What a wonderful idea! A turret, built around an aircraft, built around a gun!
+3Nice! I need to fit these to my Mirage 2000.

+3@Mostly is right. It should be "fireGuns" or "FireGuns". Thanks @F104Deathtrap for the link by the way I'm saving that for sure!
+3@Maroon after much trial and error, I figured out what that code was from the gif above.
HEADING{repeat(Heading,360);0.0}
You can delete the ".0" if you want whole number heading

+2S M O O T H
+2@USSR Thats what I'm all about.
+2By default, thats the fun key. Click it when flying to have a fun!

+2I L o v e how pointy and sleek this fighter is! Though it's a bit hard to roll when pulling full aft on the stick.
+1Have you played around with slicing hollow fuselage blocks? they work wonders!

+1@TRD6932 Thanks! I started the plane with the engine and wanted to replicate an F-16 style intake/landing gear shape

+1@Random04 @X99STRIKER I hear you like engine intakes.
+1Holy Cow! 50G Sustained turn!?! Nice job!

+1I really like that military looking one with the pitot tube.
+1I can help out with the CoM and flaps.

@WarHawk95 Just about. It's just four inches shorter than what Wikipedia's saying. If only the base game missiles were this detailed.
+1@RYAviation Is there a way to make the gun sound louder? Also I think the red is there to signify tracers.
+1Looks like something Lockheed Martin would actually build if they had infinate funds. It reminds me of early YF-22 Concept art.
+1@otayahiromo8211 I made an unlisted version with some fixes. Here you go:
+1https://www.simpleplanes.com/a/94j26K/He162-Fix-for-otayahiromo8211
It looks like a mix of EDI from the 2005 Movie "Stealth" and early concept art for the F-22 Program. I love it!
+1Meh, Doesn't have enough guns
+1Greay job! It flys great and it reminds me of a pointy SU-25.

+1@RhysBrown Oh I'm excited. Is it more of an angular F-117 sort of stealth or a smoother B-2 / F-22 stealth?
+1I'm currently working on a SEPECAT Jaguar, and have plans to build either a Saab Viggen or Draken.
+1@AceOfSpade That's somewhere next on my list. I do want to make a new F-15 though as my old one doesn't handle well and isn't the most realistic.
