Oh also, several years after he almost died getting the crane electrocuted, his supervisor told him to work around more power lines, to which he refused. His boss told him he’d loose his job if he didn’t, so in true grandpa fashion, he took his boss by the belt buckle and tied him to the truck. He said that if he was going to have to risk his life around those lines then the supervisor was going to have to also. He never bothered grandpa after that.

I have a special fondness for cranes like that. My grandpa operated one for 30+ years. He once got the boom caught in some power lines and the truck started to smoke and break apart, but he made it out. He loved that job though, and he raised a happy family with the money he got.

I could try and find a picture of the type he operated, but basically it had four outriggers, a platform with the operators cab, and a very tall boom, almost as tall as a stationary crane. Maybe eight wheels?
It was probably yellow.
