@MisterT Doesn't seem to have worked— I am noticing that the mod file that's left is only 791MB, instead of the 855MB download file. I'll try redownloading; my computer does odd things every now and then.
Update: It worked! Looks like the issue was just in the way my computer unpacked the mod the first time.
@MisterT I can try redownloading it. For some reason, it seems to have loaded into my mod folder as two different mods. I don't know how that'd affect textures, but it's worth a shot
I've found an interesting bug— not sure what the cause is, but all of the terrain seems to be shiny and reflective. Image here. I'll disable all other mods and see if that fixes it.
Update: Didn't work. Seems like all non-standard textures are not loading, including trees and decorative features.
@ChromeGamer25 Thanks! I was surprised that the part count ended up being so low— it's probably a result of the fact that my computer is 8 years old and won't run anything much higher than this
I personally would really like to see more maps made for Player vs. AI tank battles, with a few preset AA tanks to test out ground combat.
That being said, I have a landscape in mind. It's a small town nestled in a valley between the foothills of the Balkan Mountains, with 10 to 20-foot rolling hills filling out the valley floor, crisscrossed by thin hedges. For a comparable example in google maps, the coordinates 41.928164, 21.062812 should be a decent representation of that type of landscape.
@cedblox332 Thanks! I started out as an iOS player, so I know the pain of not being able to use a cool creation because it used modded parts. Because of that, I try and make sure that all of my creations can be used by anyone who wants to download them, which means that I can only use vanilla parts
This saved me a lot of work! It’s often not easy to remove a lot of detail and keep the same functionality (connections are a bit wonky, and the turret got stuck a lot), but it looks like you managed it! Nice work!
Also, I appreciate the huge effort you’re going through to make sure that credit is given— a lot of players don’t do that. Don’t feel bad about accepting upvotes! You’ve put work in, and you should get credit for that.
@DuckMint Thanks! I’ve always noticed that a lot of the tanks here don’t handle properly (especially with suspension travel), so I put a lot of effort into making sure I got it as correct as I could
@hobbitfrog Mobile-friendly version should be coming within a week or so, depending on how busy I am— in the meantime though, you’re more than welcome to make a version of your own!
All trees seem to have lost their textures since 1.8— not sure if that's across all maps and devices, but hopefully, it's fixable! This is one of my favorite maps, and I'd love to see it back the way it was.
@Tank6376 No special ammo, just an XML-modded wing gun that does loads of extra damage. All of the other gun effects were done with modded wing guns, too.
@Destroyerz117 Thanks! It was a bit of a nightmare to put together, with all of the double (and sometimes triple) connections that had to be made via XML, but I'm really happy with the way it turned out!
@metallicplanes Second map is the Simple Race Track map— it's had its lighting messed up a bit since 1.8, but otherwise, it has a very nice landscape for getting realistic pictures, with lots of ground cover and foliage. Third map is Paradise Island. It's very realistic, with a nice bumpy topography and lots of trees. Unfortunately, since 1.8, all the trees have turned pink; it took me a while to get a screenshot without any.
Hope this helps!
@CptJacobson Whoops! I didn’t put quite as much effort into the front part of the breech assembly (i.e. the cradle and recoil cylinders), since most of it would end up being obscured by the turret wall itself— looks like I missed it!
@BMilan
Thanks for the upvote/spotlight! I used EternalDarkness's Armored Games map for both of the gifs— it's a great map for testing that sort of thing, and it's also one of the only maps that hasn't had its textures obliterated since 1.8
@Mrshape No problem! Additionally, I don’t believe fine tuner is associated with XML modding— it just provides a better nudging system (along with so much more), so you should be able to use it without crashing the game!
This is a fantastic tank, especially for a first build! The detail is great, and the fact that it has real suspension is something I've not seen a lot of other people put effort into— nice work!
I don't know if you were able to make this with the benefit of modding (XML or otherwise), but if that option is available to you, it'll greatly increase what you're able to do, as far as tanks go. There are two downloadable mods that are absolutely essential to players looking to build replicas— those mods are Overload, which provides in-game XML modding for selected parts, and Fine Tuner, which gives much more flexibility in nudging, rotating, and scaling parts. Another good one is Colour Editor, which allows you far greater options in paint colors. Hope these help!
@BogdanX Thanks for the tip! I've set it properly for all of the detail pieces, and it has somewhat improved the lag, although it's definitely still noticeable. As an aside, do you know if disabling aircraft collisions for overlapping parts also decreases lag?
@DemonSniper8 I'm on a mac unfortunately, so no changing power settings :(
Thanks though!
It'll be a little bit before I'm at a point where I can release it, even privately, but if I haven't fixed it by then, I'd be glad to have you give it a go!
Thanks for the suggestions and compliments, everyone! Here's an update on what I've tried so far, and a bit of clarification.
First thing: I don't believe that raw part count is responsible for the lag— I have a few other vehicles with 200+ more parts than this one, and they run buttery smooth on my device.
Second thing: Reducing settings doesn't seem to help much either. It gives a big bump to fps when driving forward on level terrain, but as soon as I start going up/down hills or over rough terrain, I get the same lag I had before.
Third: I'm in the process of setting calculateDrag to false on every single part in the tank, but it's slow going, using just a combination of the overload mod and copy/pasting it into the XML file. I've finished doing the equipment (I've also set disableAircraftCollisions to true on everything I've done as well), and it does seem to have helped it to a degree. Does anyone know a way to add the setting to every part simultaneously in the XML file?
EDIT: Lastly, with the new version of Unity in 1.8, it seems to work amazingly smooth in the beta. All lag disappears whatsoever! In the event that I can't get the lag fixed, I'll just hold off on publishing it until the release of 1.8.
@Pilothouston5 Lol, thanks! I rarely ever post anything (the double post I did a couple days ago almost never happens), so it’s entirely understandable that I haven’t quite made it yet, but I’m definitely getting closer! Slowly, at least.
@ColonelStriker I tried to make it as fun and sturdy as possible, since theM18 Hellcat in real life has a reputation for being the quickest, most maneuverable tank in WWII!
@AWESOMENESS360 I actually lifted the gun off of a different tank (I believe it was a panzer of sorts— I might be able to find it), which was XML modded to fire a bunch of shots at once every 4 or so seconds, but made no adjustment for the spread (leading to the shotgun effect, especially since I dropped about 10 or so of those guns in this tank)— I was doing everything on iOS at the time, and didn’t have the ability to change it through modding of my own, so I just opted to keep everything as it was, since the alternative was having the default wing gun as my main armament. I guess I justified it by imagining that the tank was firing canister rounds.
Hope this clears it up, and thanks for the upvote!
@engineer40k Foxhole is one of those games which I wish more people knew about, even over here in the US— this is actually the first time I’ve seen someone else who plays it outside of the game itself, so I had to mention it!
@Tanksfly9847
Good to know. Do you make a habit of sharing your remarkable critiques in 7 year-old posts?
@striker0911 Check out the successors, there should be one in there.
+2@DepressedTortoise I’d be glad to help, as soon as I have more free time! Should be in about four days; I’ll let you know
+1@Vampface Thank you!

I’m amazed that this can actually run smoothly on my phone. Thanks for the shoutout!
@DuckMint Fantastic! I’ve always loved that type of landscape, and to see it in game would be amazing! Looking forward to it!

I am in absolute disbelief at the fact that the night vision actually works spectacularly, even at 23:00 during stormy weather— fantastic work!
@QingyuZhou Thank you! It was really tedious to get them to work right, so I’m glad that they’re appreciated!
@cedblox332 Thanks! I started out as an iOS player, so I know the pain of not being able to use a cool creation because it used modded parts. Because of that, I try and make sure that all of my creations can be used by anyone who wants to download them, which means that I can only use vanilla parts

@AdlerSteiner Thanks, that means a lot! I’m very pleased with the way it turned out, and I’m just happy that other people enjoy it too!
@Zanedavid Thanks! I tend to leave out a lot of the tiny details to cut back on parts, but I was surprised at how low it ended up being!

Thanks for the upvotes, everyone!

+3My decade-old computer could never hope to run this, but this is by far the best-looking battleship I've seen on the site! Really nice work!
@DemonSniper8 It's all integrated, unfortunately— the computer is 8 years old as well, so it's definitely showing its age at this point
@BogdanX Thanks for the tip! I've set it properly for all of the detail pieces, and it has somewhat improved the lag, although it's definitely still noticeable. As an aside, do you know if disabling aircraft collisions for overlapping parts also decreases lag?

@ThePilotDude Weirdly enough, it works way better in 1.8 than 1.7! All lag seemed to disappear when I played it on a device with the beta installed.
Thanks for the suggestions and compliments, everyone! Here's an update on what I've tried so far, and a bit of clarification.

+2@ColonelStriker I tried to make it as fun and sturdy as possible, since theM18 Hellcat in real life has a reputation for being the quickest, most maneuverable tank in WWII!
@CrazyCatZe Alright, I’ll see what I can do
@CrazyCatZe When you say smaller, are you referring to the bullet size or the gun itself?
@CrazyCatZe Any preference for RoF, tracer color, or velocity?
@ProjectTank Good eye! I'm currently working on an M18, and I figured I'd upload the hull as a stand-alone piece.
+2Nice build— I don’t see a lot of ground structures on here!
Also, the logo looks a lot like the Warden faction logo from Foxhole, which is a really nice touch
+2@logizAircrafts @Winstonlharambe I’ll try that— thanks for the info, guys!
