Schweizer-Einkraft Flieger und Fahrzeugen GmbH was founded in 1929, however it's popularity strike would be in the 50's.
After that, the popularity slowly declined, and in an attempt to regain it back, they tried to make a formula racing car (creating it's own IndyCar series), with development starting in 1979. However they found no success in circumventing the Swiss motorsports racing ban, and the project was shunned just 5 years later.
Things got even worse in the 90's, with although reliable, durable and cheap cars, they would not sell well.
The attempts to sell their retooled and rebadged Takswagen cars didn't help either; production of the Hungarian cars went between 1989 and 2003, however only the Cowboy pickup managed to do reasonably well.
From the 2000's onwards, they recovered but decided to limit their car production.
Their aircraft division was born in 1967, with the buyout of the ailing Schweizer-Octaver Flieger (operating with the Octaver only name).
The shipcrafting division was born in 1975 after the buyout of the Zeltwig boat company, headquartered in Austria.
The story already started rough following the oil crisis in the 70's, however they managed to recover.
Since 2013, the prime focus of the company has been the airplanes.
