Is the 7000 lbs limit the empty weight of the loaded weight? I've got a design for this. It weighs less than 7000 lbs with a little bit of fuel in, but to give it a decent flight time I'd need to add more and that would take it over 7000 lbs.
@KillCamALot It's tricky to keep your car from swerving about. Reducing the turning angle on your wheels might help. You could also try adding vertical stabilisers to the back to help keep it steady at high speeds.
@Typhlosion130 I like having collisions in the races. It makes them more exciting and unpredictable. Without collisions, there'd be no point having one plane race against another, you'd get the same result by doing individual time trials.
How to build your car for this.
1) Make car.
2) Car is fast and finishes consistently from position 1, crashes from position 2.
3) Edit car.
4) Car is fast and finishes consistently from position 2, crashes from position 1.
5) Edit car.
6) Go back to step 2.
It's fast on mine, but not 100% reliable. On one run, it lost a wheel after a hard landing at one of the bumps after turn 6. That got it disqualified, though the machine did keep going and still made it to the end. It also lost from position 2, but that was from running into my current work in progress I was testing against it. And I think that's going to be a problem for a lot of machines, the drop start for position 2 puts you behind, so if you're faster there is a risk of smashing into the one from position 1.
All in all, this is a very impressive racer and a good entry.
It's interesting to read that people have been having problems with the turn at ring 6. I haven't had a problem with that, but my current work in progress catches air over one of the bumps after ring 6 and struggles to turn in to ring 7. It does make it to the ring, but seems like it's taking a very wide line and losing time. I'll do a bit more testing and tweaking at the weekend, see if I can improve it.
Spotlight suggestion: When following someone, there should be a "Do you want to see what this player spotlights? Yes or No?" option. It could help people cut down on the amount of spotlight notifications they get, while still seeing the planes from their favourite players.
I'm guessing you mean Howl's Moving Castle. It would be really hard to build one of the flying machines from it, they're all ornithopters, which are really difficult to make.
The tournament will be streamed live on Twitch (a link will be put up on this site just before it starts), and the whole thing is recorded and uploaded to YouTube, so you can watch it later if you like.
Seems like a good update, I'm liking this. One comment on the forums, though - sorting posts by tags is great, but it seems like there'll be a lot of overlap between Story and Roleplay. Maybe they should be combined into one tag.
@TheBoeingEngineer @TheAwesomeOcelot Activation 8 is switched on by default in our version of the game, but it won't be switched on for the tournament (there were a few exploits using it). You don't need to worry too much, just check through your plane parts and make sure that anything that has the option to select an activation group has "None" selected. Then everything will work as it should in the tournament.
@Pearl It's the same Bandit Run race that is on the game, the plane starts in mid-air (so no need for landing gear). And no, you're not allowed to enter a plane that's a successor to a challenge that someone else posted. The only way a successor is allowed is if it's a successor to one of your own planes.
GeekPride Fabrications is not looking to join with another company, but we are always on the lookout for new business opportunities. If you have a design problem that you're having trouble solving, or would like to contract us to build something to your specifications, get in touch and we can do a deal.
Looks cool and is fast and stable in flight. It's a bit hard to land, though - if you do another plane like this, you might want to try adding some air brakes to help it slow down for a landing.
This is really, really good. I like the appearance of it, it looks like it was designed for practicality, and the grey colour scheme really works. It drives well, and looks cool with the four-wheel steering and the suspension rippling as you go over a bump. And you included a working cockpit as well. Excellent work!
@BogdanX That's a good point. I've been putting the cockpit so far forward to try to give the pilots the clearest view possible, but it does mean the plane doesn't have a nose. I'll try positioning it further back on the next version.
@Pilotmario Wow, thank you. I'm honoured that you'd say that.
@BogdanX Thanks - and if you like this, you might want to check out the predecessors, this is part of a series. Just out of curiosity, why do you think the design is weird?
Just now, I was messing around and tried to do a full aileron roll as I flew through a bridge. I heard a tap as my wing touched one of the supports, but it held together and I made it through, completing the roll.
@CALVIN232 No, I hadn't planned to submit this as an entry. I just decided I liked my original Neygi, so I'm going to do a series of planes based on it.
I've submitted my Scorpion as a successor, but it's an interesting failure, not a proper entry. It can't fly, but it's got quite a cool folding mechanism I wanted to show.
I'm in, my Pamaca is up as a successor.
@Meltingvenus1999 And weapons aren't allowed in the tournaments. Hopefully we'll get a dogfight tournament one day, but it hasn't happened yet.
That's better - my Phippri is now up as a successor. It's still got quite a short range, but it can make it from Yeager to Wright.

Instead of the Cargo tournament, they could do one where the planes have a minimum size as well as a maximum - that'd get some bigger planes entered.

I'm in, my Menomat is up as a successor.
My second entry is in - the Vorpal class bomber.
I'm in, my Pakhet is up as a successor. I can enter one more plane, is that correct?
Sorry for the random crashing favouring me - this looked like a good plane.
Yes, I had one flying lesson years ago. I enjoyed it, but it was too expensive to keep doing.
@JovianPat Thank you!
What's been your best plane-related experience in real life?

I converted this back and wish I hadn't bothered. Just another generic whiny post saying that things aren't like they used to be in the good old days.

I'm in, with an attempt at a replica of the Messerschmitt Bf 108 up as a successor.
I'm in, my Wynedge is up as a successor.
I'm in, my Malius is up as a successor.
@Sarpanitu Thank you! It was a good challenge.
@CanofBeans I guess winning by default is a valid strategy. It's a shame more people didn't take part, this was a fun challenge.
Yay! Thank you!
I'm in, my Tounon is up as a successor.
Excellent work! This looks really cool and is super-agile without feeling like it will go out of control. Well done!
You're not Batman, and you didn't make this. Taking someone else's work and trying to claim it as your own is not cool. Please check out the rules.
Looks good, and handles well for such a big plane. Good work!
Easy to fly, and I like the slightly chubby look - it's cute.

I love the look of this, it just looks right. Flies pretty nicely as well. Excellent!
That's some impressively good suspension. Nice work!
Looks cool, I like it.
Simple, but well-balanced and easy to fly. I like the detail of having a little cut-out in the fuselage for the rear gear.
@TheRedStormer Oh, cool. Is the new end date July 7th? I'll make something that actually works, if you don't mind.
I'm in, my Tezian is up as a successor.
