@LieutenantSOT Thanks for the feedback, and your criticisms are absolutely fair. I wasn't 100% happy with the looks myself, but when I tried to have smaller gaps or rotator-powered control surface elements, the game started doing its annoying thing of stuff sometimes moving with the rotators and sometimes just sticking and not going anywhere. Eventually I just gave up and decided to make the best of it.
I'm planning on doing another entry, probably a pure jet, so I'm going to try to do a better job with that one.
You mention a catapult in the description. Does this mean the planes will be operating from the USS Beast? That'll be a lot easier than trying to make one that can land on the Tiny.
@belugasub - are you looking for WWII appearance, or do we have to have realistic WWII performance as well? My current build has the right look, but can hit 700 mph. If that's against the rules, I'll have to reduce the engine power before submitting it.
@Treadmill103 Thanks! I tried several other designs and threw them away when I couldn't get the handling to work right on them. I'm pleased that I managed to get a good balance between agility and stability on this one.
Roughly 12 hours to deadline and all I have is a design that repeatedly crashes. And I need to sleep. Looks like I won't be doing very well in this one.
@MI Yes, you're allowed to enter successors of your own planes.
@Gravity Yes, no collisions is allowed.
@lolcreeper45 The tournament usually starts about an hour after the deadline. The planes are raced against each other by the AI, with the action being streamed on Twitch. The winner of each race advances to the next round, the loser is eliminated from the tournament.
@WaffleCakes As long as you're using the basic parts from the game, putting fuel in them is fine.
XML modding can be used to do things like let a fuselage part hold more fuel, reduce the weights of parts, make engines more powerful - they're the things that aren't allowed.
I'm on holiday and away from my PC, so I'm just reusing my entry from last time we had this race. It won't win, but it's reliable and fast enough to be a respectable contestant.
@Tazziedevil04 Oh, right. You can't make tournaments like these, these are always run by Andrew Garrison, one of the game's developers. The closest you could manage would be to create a challenge, run the races on your own machine and give out the results in a post. You probably wouldn't get many competitors, though, a challenge isn't as visible as an official tournament.
@Tazziedevil04 To enter the tournament:
1) Build your vehicle
2) Upload it as normal
3) Click the "Enter Tournament" button on this page
4) Select your vehicle
This will now be your entry for the tournament. Tournaments usually start an hour or two after the deadline, all entries are controlled by the AI.
@Viperfox I only had 11 parts to work with. I tried a jet to start with, but had trouble coming up with a design where I was happy with the looks and handling.
If you want to make a challenge for a fast jet, tag me in and I'll submit an entry.
@Braydonsjej If you enter something that has jet engines, it won't even get to crash. All planes are checked for illegal parts before the tournament starts; if the plane breaks the rules it doesn't get to start a race.
Just finished watching the matches now the tournament's been uploaded. All in all, I'm pretty happy with how it went, my entry was respectably fast and giving it good stability helped the AI control it. The main thing for me to learn is that if we have another mystery tournament (and I hope we do), I should believe the hints given and commit to the recommended strategy.
I'm another one that would like to see this race added to the game, it's a different challenge to the other races.
Made a second submission, the GP-232 Emmot.
I'm in with my Lisnox, meeting all the required minimum specifications.

+1I'm planning on doing another entry, probably a pure jet, so I'm going to try to do a better job with that one.
My first entry, my GP-230 Knucker, is up as a successor.
You mention a catapult in the description. Does this mean the planes will be operating from the USS Beast? That'll be a lot easier than trying to make one that can land on the Tiny.
+1Getting close to finishing an entry for this contest. Are we allowed to enter more than one submission?
+3I'm in, my Primer is up as an entry for this competition.
+1@YEEEETplane Thank you! Glad you liked the plane.
@Gastonplanes I just felt in the mood for making some planes again.
Just managed to get my build done in time, my Ortod is up as a successor.

I'm in, my GP-222 Berryrod is up as a successor.
Well done @AnonymousUser99! Congratulations on becoming the champion!
+1Upvoted for being pretty.
Upvoted for being pretty. I especially like the landing gear.
Nice race! I thought you were going to beat my entry, but the AI piloting decided to crash you.
@plane918273645 The stream normally starts about an hour after the deadline. A link will appear on this page to watch it.
I'm in, my GP-219 Starchaser is up as a successor.

I'm entering my GP-212 Stoker for this challenge.

@hopotumon Thanks for the spotlight.
I'm in, my GP-210 Meridor is up as a successor.
+1@TheNCRranger Yes, they're allowed. If you're running the current version of the game, any of the three prop engines are allowed.
Ran out of time to build a new plane, re-used my entry from last time we had this. It's not very fast, but it is very noisy.
@SuperSanic Depends on your time zone. I'm just glad I've got a bit more time to work on mine.
Roughly 12 hours to deadline and all I have is a design that repeatedly crashes. And I need to sleep. Looks like I won't be doing very well in this one.
@letsgofast11 It gives you a link directly to the post you select the permalink option for. For example, here is a link to your post.

First tournament since the latest update... should be interesting.
I'm entering, my Coryto is up as a successor.
I'm entering, my Vathek is up as a successor.

I've run out of time, so I'm submitting an entry that's fast but has a tendency to crash. Ah well, at least I might go out in a blaze of glory.
@SuperSanic Yes, I tried that as well. Time to make a new plane as my entry.
@Braydonsjej If you enter something that has jet engines, it won't even get to crash. All planes are checked for illegal parts before the tournament starts; if the plane breaks the rules it doesn't get to start a race.
@Iamsilverdahedgie Yes, you can enter a plane you've used before. You don't have to make a new one for each tournament.
@aceofspades2707 There are prop class tournaments. This wasn't one of them.
