@Liquidfox Don't get me wrong, that's not a no. That is a jet i want to do, i just need to get my hands on some official material from ace combat infinity or something. Theres so much fan art and crap that its just difficult to get solid reference of the ACTUAL model
@Liquidfox Yea i just stuck in Quad rocket launchers and called it a day XD Its REALLY hard to cram things into such a small weapons bay without the game randomly deciding to stick them to the side and ruin all the tightly packed hinge work lol. and yea ik u did request an XFA-27, but i'm finding it's quite annoying to get any sort of solid reference material for it. For this jet i have the entire 3D model for reference, its just a matter of copying it. When i do a replica, i want to do it right.
Looks pretty cool, but my main criticism of these sandstone models is that the thin surfaces have to be thickened substantially in the model. But this IS the small model.. I'd like to see it in reference to something so I can get a better idea of how big it is
Though this would be nice, the solid colors are all likely because the pieces are not UV mapped for textures. There would need to be quite an overhaul to make this possible.
@bluecomet Glad you like it! It's all about balance :P Too low of a wing loading will just make the plane oversensitive and feel like it flies on rails. Too high and it will drift out of turns, assuming it's well balanced. High load on an unbalanced plane spells disaster for handling.
@Liquidfox Thanks :D Im not surprised there's rolling issues with it though.. There's a billion moving parts, most of which was manually mirrored. Ever since i added all the landing gear mechanisms, its been a bit wonky. either way auto mirroring hasnt been an option for quite a while now >.< It's pretty much fixed now, so its the final touches. Btw it handles fantastic
@MasterManufacturingCo I was talking more of CoM vs CoL distance. On a standard plane, elevators tend to need a lot of distance to get the leverage they need. However, on a canard plane, the distance is already substantial from the CoM, assuming it has heavy rearward engines making a rearward CoM. This means that canards are already extremely far, being at the front, making them far more sensitive to the point that it can straight up tumble the plane even if its stable in straight flight. In order to balance this and the usual nose up tendency of canard planes, its best to add some weight to the nose. In the end, what i'm saying is, on most canard planes I end up needing to soften the effect because its TOO much, so the CoM and CoL are more distant than usual despite equal handling.
These points are fair for beginners, but having done a lot of work in balance and supermaneuverability, these are not always the case. Many of my planes have rather high wing loading (70+ lbs/sqft) and can turn impressively fast. In fact, the F-22 has a wing loading of 77lbs/sqft. If a plane needs a loading of 25 to fly, it is poorly designed. The surface type of the wing also makes a huge difference which most ignore. Your point on control surfaces I also entirely disagree with. They are a matter of leverage. A large elevator surface on a fast plane that moves 10 degrees is overall far better than a small surface, so long as it can be unlocked at lower speeds, allowing more movement for low speed maneuverability. Balance is also another strange point. On canard based planes, having the CoM at a normal distance will still be a disaster. It is therefore better to have flat bottom high lift canards and a heavier nose, which overall puts the CoM further forward and also helps keep the plane from having nose up or down tendencies at speed.
@Liquidfox I was thinking of the strigon livery, but the shades of red in game are just way too saturated for it to look good imo. Instead Ill probably go with the custom grey scheme in the new pics above. Matches the bodywork better and i wont need to add tons of messy decals.
@Liquidfox @RedstoneAeroAviation Its already over 260 parts, with all the retracting gizmos and all >.< The nose isn't even detailed at all yet... if its successful, maybe i'll make a lite version for mobile so people don't miss out
@RedstoneAeroAviation @Supermini555 @MrMecha It has the thrust vector plates fully functional, but for real TVC, that might be difficult to squeeze in, but i'm gonna try for sure. The part count will likely be closer to 400, since this thing has a very complex body. i'm not even done the whole frame and its 110 so far. As for the special weapon, I only have the two wing bays to work with, because the lower bay is ridiculously thin, and they still have quite a spacial limitation. i was thinking of maybe concealed quad rocket launchers. i'll update with more pics ^^
@MrMecha darn, you guessed right XD Yup, its the Nosferatu. I'm putting a ton of detail work into this one, and hopefully in the end it can fly well. The flaps already move for both pitch and roll, and the really awkward intakes are all finished too
@RyneKuczy Thanks! ^^ You're right except for the Mig, and a couple of Ace Combat planes mixed in. Lots of people say Mig though, so I guess the blend of F-14 and Su end up making something close to that.
@Liquidfox I suppose an XFA-27 would be possible, but it does have a lot of moving parts, so balance work would be a pain. I could definitely give it a shot
@Mr_6371 Thanks! @DragonAerotech Yea it's really so much better with a joystick. You can kill the G-lock and just feel like a boss, pulling crazy tailslides and 180 reversals, but with keyboard, not so much. You need that joystick precision, and with the additional elevator range, the sensitivity is way too high to turn off the lock using keyboard.
@dogspit Well, I'm remarkably uncreative when it comes to names, and Fenrir sounds cool :P As for the designation, its just following the USAF format, with a random number, so it's no surprise its similar. The ace combat jet is coded XFA-33, meaning experimental fighter/attacker, and I was going for a similar role, but as a fully fledged service jet, so minus the X
@KodiakBear2014 Thanks for the input, but it's working as intended. The thrust is very high already and its a heavy jet weighing over 50,000lbs, so that's what's causing the issue, not intake. This is not an F-16 style light fighter that flies on rails, it is a heavy F-14 style jet, so it will be unforgiving if you try to throw it around. Don't try to fly normally with G-Lock off either, or you will always slip out of turns. Drop the fuel tank and be smooth with the pitch for better turning results. Also, keyboard input will NOT suffice if you want to enjoy this.
@TemDesBur SU-27 and F-14 for most of the front, with ADF-01 Falken style wings and nozzles. Its intakes and rudders are inspired by the CFA-44 Nosferatu, which no one seems to have guessed. Lastly, it's painted in the Jolly Rogers' scheme
@W0ND3R0U5 hm.. a couple people have said mig-29 now.. The front end i was going more for tomcat meets flanker. The back Isn't as much the xfa-27, but it does mix of several ace combat jet backs, which have a similar sort of thing going on
@jpower Well, if you have a creation that you know is your pride and joy, you need to go all the way. Create a forum post to generate interest, create improvements based on feedback from others, and when its time to release it, drop that upload with a bunch of eye catching screenshots in a time when nothing but yours stands out, and tag everyone who was interested in it. If this was a post about an epic work in progress, you'd have a good amount of interest.
@jpower Surely you realise that whenever a plane on the newest page gets upvoted even once, it runs down from the top of the hottest page, right? The newest page is basically the junk filter, and after one upvote it gets a nice long chance in the eyes of many.
Nice simple look to it, but it could use elevators on the main wings, the pitch seems really slow.. Also, why the F-35 hate? All it ever wanted was to take taxpayer money! T.T Its a cool looking 30 whatever mil tho imo XD
@jpower I'm not really trying to shut you down. Encouraging new players is always a good thing to do, but at the same time, its a punishing world and the players demand the best content. The masses will decide who succeeds. Those who truly wish to succeed will do so through their own means. If someone isn't successful and they care, they will take it upon themselves to figure out why. There are also many casual players who just toss out a plane or two and are happy with 20 downloads and a comment saying "cool stuff", so I feel you're sort of blowing this out of proportion, personally.
As newer users, you need to accept that you won't be immediately popular. The lesser planes will generally be less noticed, while the better ones will move up in the ranks, and their creators will slowly gain a following. As their content improves, so does their success. I mean no offense to the creators of the planes on the list here, but they simply don't live up to the quality of the planes on the top charts. When there is a true gem among them though, they commonly get featured, though many will still fade away unnoticed, which is inevitable. So that said.. I really don't see a point to this.
@Cedy117 @TheLatentImage @MEGANOOB @SteadfastContracting Glad you guys like it :D I may eventually try some sort of thrust vectoring setup like my SU-37. It could be interesting.
@Liquidfox Don't get me wrong, that's not a no. That is a jet i want to do, i just need to get my hands on some official material from ace combat infinity or something. Theres so much fan art and crap that its just difficult to get solid reference of the ACTUAL model

@Liquidfox despite your request, i've opted to tease you more! with ALL NEW pictures!!
Looks pretty cool, but my main criticism of these sandstone models is that the thin surfaces have to be thickened substantially in the model. But this IS the small model.. I'd like to see it in reference to something so I can get a better idea of how big it is
Unity's pretty easy, just start modding lol. You can make aaaallll the cities you want
@General360 Pfffffffffffff technicalities. Its a game, no one actually dies from my insane experiments. I'm sure it'll be fine at only mach 5 or so :P
@General360 thats why i said ceramic heat shielded noses, like space shuttles :D ridiculous lightness + heatproof! i'd try it for kicks lol
Though this would be nice, the solid colors are all likely because the pieces are not UV mapped for textures. There would need to be quite an overhaul to make this possible.
What the crap is this bible length post? tl;dr
@General360 If materials were a thing... we'd have nothing but carbon fiber planes with heat shielded ceramic noses... o_o

@Liquidfox Yea its really coming along, its final touches now. Only issue is it has that maddening problem where planes slowly roll one way

Fuselage blocks + nudge + scaling mod/xml editing.
Well it IS a helipad. If you can't land on it, you're a bad pilot, right? :P

@Stickman Ok then, its one of the fictional ace combat superplanes, now it should be easy :P
@Stickman nope, but i'll narrow it down. It is in fact, in ace combat games
@Shmexysmpilot nope, it is an aircraft. It's just very.. incomplete right now
@Stickman perhaps, it could be :P
@LukeDaDuke I could, but I honestly doubt i'll have time to make any of these requests any time soon. If i do, It will be a while for sure
@BaconEggs Thanks man, good to see people enjoying this :D Also I'm happy to say this is now my most popular plane!
@RyneKuczy Thanks! ^^ You're right except for the Mig, and a couple of Ace Combat planes mixed in. Lots of people say Mig though, so I guess the blend of F-14 and Su end up making something close to that.

@FrogmasterAereonautics I'd love to do a challenge with ya, but I just don't think I have the time
The tail falls off, might wanna fix and re upload
Seems the propeller overspeeds and vibrates until it breaks off and explodes.. Fix that and its perfect XD Till then i shall fly at 70%.
Well, the vtol is pretty unbalanced with its full weapon load, but without it, its hovering is actually quite controllable

@SelectAKey @Johndfg Love you guys, thanks for all the support to you and all the other upvoters!
@HarperAstrionics Pretty close minus the mig, but there's also a few ace combat planes in it, so it may be a bit unfair :P
@Cedy117 @TheLatentImage @MEGANOOB @SteadfastContracting Glad you guys like it :D I may eventually try some sort of thrust vectoring setup like my SU-37. It could be interesting.
good upgrades, lookin great :D
Love it! Also, grats on gold ^^
@grantflys Theres still more :D
