@TheLoadingGorilla By the way, nice to meet you! I've interacted with you a couple times & decided to read through your bio. Important notes read & respected :). I have another friend who is an English nerd per se, so it's normal for me to be corrected wkwkwkwk. Student simplified 👍
Hey local dragon CM @SupremeDorian , I don't know if user handles notify when written in forum posts, but when you have the time, can you please read this ^^?
i'm personally not caring about a visual progress bar, what i think would be interesting is adding WeaponCooldown as an output variable similar to GS or Time. it would either be a 0-1 value (0 is ready to fire, 1 is the highest wait time) or it could be an output of seconds (not rounded) remaining until ready to fire.
there's the User Voice page that i've been "ehhh..?" about using, because logging into your email & it existing in its own semi-hidden tab probably doesn't give it much activity. i hope this suggestion goes through, as forum posts are way more active & visible
@SupremeDorian Hi, i don’t know for sure if what i’ve been seeking is in SP, would filing my question as a request under User Voice be more reasonable than asking a dev by tagging them if this is a feature? I think that it may be, because flight sim gear can hook up to SP (Right?) and they can consist of switches, not purely pitch roll and yaw on the flight stick.
I don’t want to request a potentially existing feature, nor do i want to bug developers (I also know it’s christmas break right now, i don’t want to be demanding for an answer, i just want to politely persist)
I haven't been part of RPs much, but i sort of want to join in purely to make 4th world country Elbonia :). Are there feasible ways to have a low impact on rp but join in if wanted impromptu?
@Randomplayer yes, i will 3d print it & set up a microcontroller to it :)! i originally was going to use a joystick component, but i don't know how to attach it while centring it, so i'm going to make a 2 axis joystick and have potentiometers to adjust the gear ratio to make a 240 degree range into 30 degrees
This made me look on wplace, i really havent been on there once & i'm so glad that there's [Off topic political incident last Sunday].
you'll see epic miku art next to a cool gengar drawing, i love how much randomness is in wplace.
i sort of want to draw the simpleplanes logo, but at the same time i have my own stuff to do. graingy, may i ask where the SP corner is? i want to begin the SP logo :)
@Graingy i'm quite late to a convo i'm not part in, but i as a cad user would be more than happy to explain! direct modelling is essentially "Ok, you've made a model, great!" your tools can be seen similar to blender, but you take away the sculpting & replace it with typing in specific dimensions for shapes. there is no way to undo a change other than Ctrl Z in the current save, so making multiple saves can be important.
Parametric modelling makes a list of instructions to create a model, it is more complex but you can go 'back in the past' and change a dimension if the tolerance isn't how you want it to be, or just delete / add features. i don't know much about tools available to direct modelling so my explanation is quite vague, but parametric modelling is super familiar to me so i hope i can share a good understanding :). you start with drawing on a 2d plane, then you can Extrude, or Revolve around an axis, to make a body. This drawing is a vector, & instead of freehand drawing, you plot different lines, arcs & vertexes. you then constrain them by dimensioning them, i.e., "This line is 25mm away from the origin point horizontally, and it is a horizontal line, so it can only exist in that space". you can extrude indiviual Edges to become Surfaces and then thicken those surfaces, imagine sheet metal, or you can create sealed Faces inside a drawing to then Extrude to form a body.
there's lots of different ways to use parametric modelling, & if you ever want to learn it, learn FreeCAD! i use onshape & i have been for 2 years, & i am super familiar with it. i am on the free license, well a Student license (Free, but with private files) but FreeCAD is local, has more options because it's open source, AND it has more features!! it's just the UI is overall worse.
i have been thinking a lot recently about how i could make model rc cars, apcs, and such more fun & immersive, i feel it sort of links closely to this conversation albeit complex & stuck on the ground. i feel it's not so much a worldbuild in my mind but a.. mechanic-build? and having mechs was an idea i thought of a little while ago as part of it. i feel mechs could be more immersive (as a concept of mechs as a whole) engineering-wise if they were shorter, 5-8 metres tall, and focused on mobility. it's more fun for me to imagine super large equipment for these, larger than spartan gear, used to fight against eachother as another step between infantry and field guns. then, gun mechs would be moreso mobile turrets, the mortar equivelants having bore diameters of up to a metre. perhaps, moving with thick legs that crush AT mines with ease. a set of 4 blocks that to move takes a while to get going, and the giant cannon on top.
i've gone horrendously tangentially thinking about a lot, i love thinking about these sort of things :D.
in a scaled down model world irl, i.e.1:10 scale fights between model cars equipped with IR lasers or such, etc etc, drones are super fast & terrain is adapted amazingly for drones, which isn't fun. having scaled down wars should have scaled down speeds, and doing that artificially is not truly that fun. i think spider mechs, like 4-8 legged mechs that can angle to fire, would be really cool & i have projects i want to do on this.
one final thing before i post this copypasta length comment, i think that for blocky mechs, think pacific rim scale, having belt-fed firearms/cannons that are either worn on the back or on the arm like mega man- no inbetween. and to reload is either the cheap and easy way of 'oh no guys, it needs to charge/cool down!' which is boring, so potentially the funnier silly way of doing it is that a blast from such requires twisting & pulling back a bolt, not on a reciever but instead a set of giant copper coils that will charge with electricity & prime a railgun. and then have pre-primed rounds that load into this magnetic auto cannon of a thing that can be charged and stored.... and reloaded....
thank you a lot for bringing me so many ideas with this post monarchii
i love how i know nothing much about blue archive other than watching a video explaining how that one government department was corrupt or something. having juuust enough knowledge of the fanbase and the game, but not knowing a single characters personality, is so funny to me.
realising right now that i can probably burn dr breens welcome to city 17 speech on one of these & write "shuttle run audio" and hide it at school for more giggles than... looks at PG rating poopies.
@Randomplayer You're probably sleeping atp, i got steam to work- i got restrictions, & "steamcommunity.com" was blocked but everything else wasn't yet it couldn't work without it argh
@Randomplayer it's school holidays for me right now, so i have full days to do whatever, i just went off on a tangent on designing this as well as many other things. don't bother the puppy, i can call my mum or tag some1 else if i want to continue working on it :).
I've got multiple other parts of the same project, i.e, AG1-8 button casing, that i don't need a reference for. I should probably start updating my models in Off Topic, i like how neutral forums are compared to leading social media companies & i know some people in the SP forums :)
@Randomplayer i've been using Onshape for over 2 years, i'm primarily basing the meshes off them; to make the sticks nice to hold i'll use improvised mesh. absolutely goated feature
@TheLoadingGorilla my last post had hpgbproductions saying their own unsureness- & this is a funky trees pro. I doubt its in the game so i hope it can be added at some point :)
@Jundroo / @WNP78 if there is currently no way to read variables from code for situations like this, is it possible it can be implemented into SP2? not just user inputs like Pitch/Roll, but also the funky stuff, i.e. GS, current targeting mode. it would be very cool to make my own SimpleFlightSim at some point :)
@32 Ok, thankyou! I tried plugging in my wired xbox remote only to find the usb mini broke in it, so for now, i'm going to look into xinput :) At this point, it might even be worth to make a mod/library that makes variables for what i need, to create & communicate them
May i ask, will there be an easy way to switch said sounds to modded ones? Sound design update reminded me of sound physics 4 minecraft, which is really cool, but something I would love to see for SP2 is at least some way to install mods which will override (/ prioritise) added sounds on the client side. I don't know much about programming other than beginner's C++ (arrays, matrixs, delay & pwm, int vs float, bool, for vs while,) but I moreso wish for things such as menu sounds. yes, this is a very stupid want, but I think it would be really cool :)
Also, i thought "Would it be cheating for sounds to be client side on the lines of being able to detect someone else's sound? Would it be too complicated to render sound physics from someone else with a client's choice of sounds?" i think it makes sense that when sending a packet to client from server informing on someone else's sound creation, location of said sound, & whatever distance it is to be considered "far away". If instead of triggering a 'play whatever sound it's called.wav', could it trigger something like 'play (Directory where sound list is stored)' or such?
(Edit:) I also don't know whether sound physics are rendered live i.e. filtering reverb on client or simply sending out a request to fetch a set of prefiltered sounds. i.e. smallJet0to50air.wav , smallJet51to150air.wav, smallJet0to50echo.wav

i love how your artstyle is a bit like katamari damacy, but with older sp1 shading & particles.

@Randomplayer 3d printed SimpleSim
@Randomplayer hey by the way, thank you a lot for going out of your way for this ^^!
@Randomplayer interior levers, yokes & joysticks- ignore buttons/switches, only need 1 gauge for the casing
Guns SP1 pains me (mini & wing), car motor SP1 is a bit better & rotators if not going off constantly are fine. Guns are the worst.
I love the rocket sound though, fwish fwish :D
