If you didn't make an account and only made a guest account, that would explain it, as well why the server was having problems. I would recommend to try to make an account if you haven't.
As long as you don't go into a bad server, Discord is harmless. Some people just are... uh... not very nice and do not keep up to their servers, and therefore lots of bad things can be there.
They usually get deleted and those servers are shut down.
Just be careful. Most servers will have a reserved area, so it's nothing to worry about, as long as you don't explore server selections. Links with invites from a place like this website are fine, but if you just find a random server and click links you probably would get some virus or something.

Under the "main" tab, there should be "feta-corp-hq". Click on it and give the bot your SP account link.
