I have since uploading this altered the cockpit area slightly. I removed the rear facing angled corners and replaced them with angled cockpit pieces instead. No functional change but I think it looks better.
@AchuTMM The vehicle as delivered is base stock for suspension, it's up to the individual owner to have their chauffeur/mechanic adjust suspension for the anticipated conditions and desired comfort level. :)
@LAZERETCHED , if you want to play with this some more, go ahead! I am pretty casual about this game--as you may notice from the builds I post. :)
Mostly, I have some weird idea and then follow that until the next idea.
This challenge looked like it would be fun. And, I've got a nice little glider that will complete this course. That even looks pretty good, I think. Then I looked at the last tournament and the winning designs/speeds.
Annd, meh. Those "shaker" type planes are pretty cool, but I'd rather beat the challenge than beat the rules.
If one is getting 1500 plus mph with a falling/gliding object, it's not falling anymore, it is being propelled. Terminal velocity is a real thing, folks.
So, I ran this one through the Airstrip Drag race and the Gold Prix race with the AI driving and it is VERY much over powered for the AI to drive. I made a second version of this with a few tweaks--mostly for looks--but the adjustment that made the biggest difference was to reduce the horsepower to 75 from the 225 in this version. After doing that, it becomes a viable AI driven car, :)
@downloaderandmodifier , thanks!
Pretty goofy, really, but I do like making unnecessarily complicated stuff in Simpleplanes. :)
Might have another variant later, needed to stop and have some lunch.
@ThePilotDude, Thanks again, I figured it out with your help!
@Minecraftpoweer, see above.
Now I'm wondering if I put a 10 ft. air intake on the plane I can take off from there...:)
@ThePilotDude ,
Thanks for the format! I am off to work now and this formatting is not what I'm familiar with at all. So, after work, I'll be learning something new, I guess! :)
Pretty sure the extra control surfaces are not really adding anything useful. But they don't seem to be hurting performance much and they look kind of cool. To me, at least. :)
Might be useful as a bomber, this ought to be able to carry a couple big ones. Maybe.
Ahem. I forgot that wings are fueled by default so this version is waay over weight and sluggish because of that. Sorted that in version 1.1 and that one flies rather better.
@gangster I didn't "beat" any one, I just got slightly lucky. And then ran out of luck in the second round. I did have fun building and watching the meet, though!
@josef733 I've been tweaking another idea--I can get to about 2:50 ish but that won't reliably stay on the track. When I drop horsepower to keep the dern thing on the road, the time gets to be upward of 3:30... I'll get the best out of it I can then run that and what I've submitted and see which one is better. Looking forward to watching the races!
@josef733, yeah that's what I'm thinking. :) And The one I'm going with will do that pretty consistently. I am still trying other ideas but, so far, nothing is better.
Been looking at some of the cars and winners in the last Snow Crawl, and man oh man, my design is out classed! :) I might make something else but I do like what I've entered. May just go with it anyway. I tried another design that worked pretty well...until the Ai drove it. Apparently, the AI is depressed and suicidal: it drove off the route directly into the water every time. In the same spot. Not going to enter that one. :)
Been working on this this afternoon, I can get the cockpit to remain sort of level but as soon as acceleration or braking, it rocks and spins... I am trying to avoid using the gyro and will need to work out dampening the rotation. Chasing a goofy objective, for sure.

@AchuTMM It did surprise me that it was not too "explody" with all the fuel in it! :)
@AchuTMM see the successor to this for and adjusted suspension. :)
Thanks to @AchuTMM for the sugestion!

@BaconRoll OK! Thanks!
"MUST have BNRV designation."
BRNV designation? What is that?

Part 27b of my Decidely Silly (tm) series. Fulfills a need no one has ever expressed!
But, it's fun. So there. :)

Pass.

@LiamW , HMMM. XML modding is an interesting suggestion to the guy who couldn't post a screenshot correctly... :)

Clearly I did NOT post this right. :(

Use AG 1 to detach wheels and power after take off and reaching altitude.

Very nice work! You clearly have a good eye for composition. Beautiful photos!
Can detatchers be used as trailer hitches?
Not quite twitchy enough to make it through the Trench Run.
EDIT: and I just noticed how many drag points this thing has...might be my personal record! :)
@Milo1628xa :D
Annd, now it's worked as it has been. Now I'm really confused! :)
@RailfanEthan, Not sure how to make this a successor to your Snow Removal Challenge but I made this a little while ago now

Good luck!
Once the entry deadline passes, how long til we can watch the races? Do we get a notice that they're on or about when?
Aaannd it's way too slow to be serious. But those piper cubs better watch out! :)

@Zkillerwolfe Thanks for the conformation! Still might need to work on my entry a bit more over the intervening time til the race.
I hope I'm reading the rules correctly: I tweaked my first entry and so my current entry is a successor but it's of my own "plane". This is OK?
The silver hemispheres on the front will have to sub for actual head lamps.
There was, apparently, a meteor over the Detroit area but that was 16th Jan. Maybe another one? Not seeing anything on google, yet.
Reduced fuel load to just the two outside fuselage--115 gallons--changed to street tires and maxed out at 179 mph end to end on Wright Island runway.
Tried to drive from windmill farm to the pyramid. That took several attempts. Fun.

@rbiemer OK, I'm a dumb a$$. :) just figured this out. Ahem. Nevermind!
@MrDoolittle and @F104Deathtrap, OK that makes sense but I haven't figured out how to set rotators to free spin. I'm playing on pc.
Still need to finish painting this.
@Simpleplaneboy Thanks!
Thanks, y'all! Couple of good suggestions to check out.
