Congrats on the feature and highly-rated upload! I’m glad that I could help with this masterpiece.

  • I AM LEAVING SIMPLE PLANES FOREVER?? *CLICK FOR THE INFORMATION* 4.5 years ago

Hm. A one-month leave of absence requires a forum post these days? Man I must be doing this whole SP thing wrong then.... brb making 6 forum posts to account for all of my breaks.
    .
Real talk though - taking a break is something that we need to normalize on SP. Enjoy your IRL stuff!

Thrust vectoring code to zero your pitch rate might be useful post-stall. I think I have the some form of the code documented in a recent upload of mine, Orbidyn-L. It can also be applied to roll too - integration might be tricky though.

Tbh having your name connected to your SP account isn’t too bad of a thing. It’s not like you have any posts that would reflect too badly on your character. Of course, you do you - if you are uncomfortable with your name being on the internet, then feel free to do something about it!

  • Funky Trees! Q&A 4.6 years ago

@Axartar For your first question, you would use a clamp function, such as clamp01(Pitch). That way, you will only pitch one way.
    .
As for your second question, it would be a lot of and (&) statements.

  • Edo-45 4.6 years ago

@PenguinPlanes I don’t really have any rules or procedures for detailing, though i can give some general advice.
    .
Functional details are nice. If you need a countermeasure dispenser, for example, then place it accordingly and make it look like a detail. If your design would have any doors, vents, sensor array, lights, etc, then add them!
    .
Purely cosmetic details are also nice. Panel lines are quite popular. With these kinds of details though, you will need a lot of trial and error.

  • Gyroscope question... 4.6 years ago

@PenguinPlanes Sounds about right. A gyro can do that, but only on one axis. A device with 3 gyros would be able to hold any angle by countering unwanted rotation.

It might be a good idea to pin this to your bio. Of course, people will flock to you even more for code, but I have a feeling that you want to help.
    .
I recently did some FT code for another player in which I had to make a repeating timing construct. I did so by combining inverse trig with normal trig [ i.e arccos(cos(x)) ]. No question here, but I thought that was a cool little thing to announce. :)

  • Articulated Rider Quad/2 stageChute ExV1 (An2k) 4.6 years ago

No worries. I have a short attention span at the moment so my comprehension isn’t too great. It sounds like you got a working code?

  • Articulated Rider Quad/2 stageChute ExV1 (An2k) 4.6 years ago

Sounds good. Multiply the entire expression in the big parachute by clamp01(-1 * fireWeapons) . The capitalization of fireWeapons might be incorrect here, but otherwise this should do what you need.

    .
The release might be possible without a second detacher. Let’s experiment here. Can you copy-paste the parachute code (as it is) for my reference? Also when do you want the chute to release? Should it be attached to an activationGroup, or perhaps when the ejection seat hits the ground?

  • Q and A 4.6 years ago

An ideal Brayton-cycle gas turbine with regeneration but no reheat or intercooling operates at full load with an inlet temperature to the compressor of 60 oF and an inlet temperature to the turbine of 1540 oF. The cycle is also to be operated at part load at a pressure ratio of 3.0 with a turbine inlet temperature of 1100 oF. Compare the thermal efficiency and net work output per lbm flow for the two operating points if the working fluid (air) is treated as a perfect gas and the maximum possible regeneration is obtained.

  • Rotator sequence with FT 4.6 years ago

No problem! I’ll give you the code when it’s done. If I cannot do it, then I’ll tell you.

  • Rotator sequence with FT 4.6 years ago

Sounds good. So our sequence is as follows:
    .
    1. Rotator moves from 1 to -1 (1 second)
    .
    2. Rotator moves from -1 to 1 (8 seconds)
    .
    3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 indefinitely
    .
This sequence greatly simplifies the code. Of course there is the delay, too. That should be manageable though.

  • Rotator sequence with FT 4.6 years ago

So would we say that it takes 8 seconds to return? That way it returns as slowly as possible.

  • Rotator sequence with FT 4.6 years ago

Another question - sorry for spamming. The rotator moves from 1 to -1 in one second, but how quickly should it move back to 1?

  • Rotator sequence with FT 4.6 years ago

That actually helps a lot! So the rotator smoothly goes between the two values (taking one second). Then it waits for 8 seconds, and repeats that motion. The code may be complex, but it can probably be done!

  • Rotator sequence with FT 4.6 years ago

So, just to be clear, it would return to 1 after 8 seconds?

  • Rotator sequence with FT 4.6 years ago

Hmm. The repeat might be difficult. I’ll try to get back to you on that one.

  • Rotator sequence with FT 4.6 years ago

It can be done, but I need more info. Does your rotator rotate once when you use an activation group? Or does it go back-and-forth between 1 and -1?

  • The Unfortunate Truth 4.6 years ago

Of course older planes are gonna have more recognition. They were on the site for a long time (more of a chance to see and upvote), and the community’s techniques weren’t as refined back then. Our collective build quality as a community has increased with time. Older builds that don’t look good may have been revolutionary at their time. In other words, the featured plane probably has a relevant context around it that you are missing.
    .
Besides, features don’t mean anything. I only had one feature in my entire 4.5 years on SP, and it was given to me by the devs out of pity (I reached plat without gaining any features back when plat was really rare). That lack of features didn’t hold be back by any means.
    .
    Hope this helps.

  • Drag points... just a random measurement number Jundroo made up, or an actual real life unit? 4.6 years ago

In my experience it’s what @AstleyIndustries said. Cd, or coefficient of drag, tells us how the aircraft’s drag force varies with speed.
    .
Edit: the drag coefficient is used in real life. I would imagine that drag points are a computational way of giving your flight model a drag coefficient of some sort.
