@Planefun Sure, you're very welcome. I always enjoy seeing others reinterpreting my constructions.

  • Thomin T-805 "Night Owl" 9.1 years ago

@kostaspettos interesting, but that one is actually a coincidence. I really had no immediate inspiration for the design other than an actual owl which hit me once I had finished the nose.

  • Thomin T-805 "Night Owl" 9.1 years ago

I've uploaded an opened up version of the Night Owl in case anyone is interested in the bomb bay machinery.

  • Thomin T-805 "Night Owl" 9.1 years ago

@TheLatentImage @Wormforce @WalrusAircraft Thanks all. On my iPhone 6, it runs mostly well, though occasionally it has some patches where it slows down.
Balancing was much easier this time thanks to the lessons learned from the predecessor regarding how to build such a heavy plane. From the start I had a layout in mind that turned out to be working rather well. Once you drop all bombs it tends to tilt up a bit but that's the sort of compromise that is inevitable. But I'm really happy with the bomb bay which ended up working better than I could hope for. Lots of fine tuning went into that.

  • Thomin T-801 "Rider of the Apocalypse" 9.1 years ago

@TheLatentImage same as always I guess. I've built the corpus with its machinery first and now I try to build nose and tail in the most seamless and space efficient manner while trying to keep the overall balance of the final plane in mind.

In short, I have a big corpus and now I want a short nose that doesn't look awkward so that I don't have to compromise too much with my wing design. Although the wings will be another headache I guess. For example, with this plane here, I probably spent more time trying to balance it and adjusting the wings than actually building the central bomb bay or the nose (which admittedly could be better).

  • Thomin T-801 "Rider of the Apocalypse" 9.1 years ago

@TheLatentImage Thanks, I'm currently working on the successor and have Improved upon it. The mechanism will be really cool, I'm currently just struggling to build a plane around it ;)

  • XR-12 (Black Hawk) 9.1 years ago

Brilliant. Not only looks great but also flies really well.

  • The Opening Mod 9.1 years ago

@TheLatentImage Indeed. All the credit belongs to @dgbishop though, I merely contributed some minor things in order to give it a more stable flight.

  • The Opening Machine "Outdated" 9.1 years ago

I like the machinery...I'm sure it'll inspire me. Thank's for that.

  • SR-71 Blackbird - V3 9.1 years ago

    Love it, well done.

  • Thomin T-1100 "The Thing" 9.1 years ago

    @thefish53 I wish I knew... ;)

  • Thomin T-103 "Rocket Chopper" 9.1 years ago

@TheLatentImage @Puredeath @Skua Thanks everyone, very much appreciated.

  • Messerschmitt Bf-209 K4 9.2 years ago

@Zealot5layer Not sure what the problem is. I never had that happen. The nose dips a bit when the tail lifts, but it never hits the floor. What system/settings do you use? @SeriousFlipper4 I rotated the pieces into their place. I did a tutorial some while back. Check out my old planes, there you can find it.

  • Eurofighter Typhoon 9.5 years ago

@Authros Thanks for the clarification. I guess I will stick to the stock parts then ;)

  • Eurofighter Typhoon 9.5 years ago

Absolutely brilliant. Just how did you do it? Stuff like extra long nose cone shapes or skewed rows of blocks or the minimal dihedral? Is it a feature of the OSX version vs the mobile version?

  • Spitfire DB-605 Competition 9.5 years ago

    Two thumbs up.

  • Thomin T-106 9.5 years ago

@Wakescar Thanks, it always bugged me that my oldest planes were shown there ;)

  • KM - Caspian Sea Monster 9.5 years ago

@Wakescar Thanks, your words are very much appreciated

  • Panavia Tornado GR4 9.6 years ago

TBH, I'm not the biggest fan of the overall design, it definitely is in need of some fine tuning. However, having said that, your sweeping wing design is not only elegant, it also works very well and the plane is stable throughout. It certainly inspired me regarding my own Tornado on how to improve it. That's certainly worth 5 stars.

  • Bomber Challenge 9.6 years ago

Thanks for rating. I hope you had fun with all the entries.

  • Horten Ho 229 9.6 years ago

Brillant. I was about to re-do my old Ho229 from ground up, but it turns out that you already built the perfect replica.

  • Naboo N-1 Starfighter 9.6 years ago

Hate the prequels, love this plane

  • X-plane CHALLENGE (Comp Ended) 9.7 years ago

Seeing as the X-Nomenclature is American, how about other experimental airplanes that didn't have an X in their name?

  • Raven Air-Fortress 9.7 years ago

@Mkenz Well, I built it on a mobile, so I guess it still is...though I reduced the graphics setting to fly.

  • F-101B Voodoo 9.7 years ago

    Looks awesome!

  • Junkers Ju 87 "Stuka" Mk3 9.8 years ago

@TheFlyingHippie just look at my tutorials

  • Infinity 9.8 years ago

@alphasnail That could have to do with your graphics settings. What are you running it with?

  • F-4 Phantom II 9.8 years ago

    Wow, I'm impressed...very nice.

  • Tutorial: How to get parts to overlap Part 1 9.8 years ago

@awesome2fun You might not see the point, but I have been asked several times how to make parts overlap, hence I created this tutorial. You're doing those people who'd like to understand the technique a disservice by downvoting it, as they'll be less likely to come across it.

  • Focke-Wulf Fw 190 D-9 Mk2 9.8 years ago

@thomadjaf I guess there are three main reasons for the over representation of warbirds: 1) They're mostly small and hence less of a hassle to build and also run fluidly on all systems. 2) They're just cool as they represent the cutting edge of aviation technology in their eras. 3) The limited amount of parts in this game. For instance, I wanted to do a Learjet, but I just couldn't find an angle to get it anywhere near to the original. I also toyed with the idea of old passenger planes, and I might still go there, but that's also very difficult to do. But there are of course other cool things to build. The Cesna mod I did for example is my only mod so far because I just thought that the original was extremely cool. I also really liked that ultra-light craft (sorry, can't remember the user names off the top of my head). For a time, I also did fantasy planes, experimenting with unusual shapes, but currently, I just enjoy doing replicas. Who knows what will come next once that wears off... ;)

  • voss 167 9.8 years ago

Hey, I just did the same plane, check it out: https://www.simpleplanes.com/a/pvBDm0/Blohm-Voss-BV-141-Mk2

  • Tutorial: How to make parts overlap Part 2 9.8 years ago

@jared3339 yes, you can add several control surfaces to a single wing.

  • Tutorial: How to make parts overlap Part 2 9.8 years ago

@jared3339 where exactly is your problem? I thought that over both those tutorials, I made clear how it works...which part isn't clear enough? I might upload a third one if that could help.

  • Hawker Tempest 9.8 years ago

Very Nice. I like the detail. What do you think about my P-51D? That should be up your alley ;)

  • Stealth Figther by SR 9.8 years ago

Nice one. What do you think of mine? https://www.simpleplanes.com/a/dGA0ff/Lockheed-F-117-Nighthawk

  • Northrop XB-35 9.8 years ago

@jammer Yes, the original did have a slightly asymmetrical layout.

  • Curtiss-Wright P2 "Warhawk" 9.8 years ago

I thought you were talking about rear mounted propellers. I just built a plane with those.

  • Curtiss-Wright P2 "Warhawk" 9.8 years ago

As for pusher props: Wait for my next plane, I found a workaround ;)

  • Curtiss-Wright P2 "Warhawk" 9.8 years ago

Cool. Are you aware that there really were designs like this? I recently did the historic ancestor: https://www.simpleplanes.com/a/2SEjy8/Blohm-Voss-P-170

  • Teufel Mitternacht Altzvorvic Put-1 9.8 years ago

Looks badass and flies very good. Though should you want to do further fine tuning, you might work on the somewhat sluggish roll as well as the fact that it slightly but noticeably pulls up. Still an awesome job though.

  • P-51 Mustang 9.8 years ago

Nice. You might want to check out my stab at the Mustang. I'd appreciate it. https://www.simpleplanes.com/a/oOt5K3/P-51D-Mustang-Mk3

  • Messerschmitt Me 410 "Hornisse" 9.8 years ago

    Thanks, I'll try ;)

  • Boomerange 9.8 years ago

Wait, did you make ANY changes to my original? It even has the same paint job...

  • Messerschmitt Bf 110 9.8 years ago

    Love the detail.

  • Messerschmitt Bf 110 9.8 years ago

Ha, funny, I was thinking about tackling this one, but settled for its successor, the Me 410 which I'm currently working on. The Me 262 is incredibly difficult to tackle given the types of blocks in this game. I have done two versions but Im not really happy with either...I might give it another shot eventually.

  • SR 71 Mk2 9.8 years ago

I'm glad you like it ;) I have by now crated ha high performance version with only small compromises in terms of design. Also, if you like this one, you might want to look at my B-2 or my F-117. Anyway, thanks again for your kind words.

  • Cesna 172 (with people) 9.8 years ago

Brilliant idea and extraordinary detail. But unfortunately the flight characteristics are not that great.

  • Vought F-8 Crusader 9.8 years ago

Very nice. Extremely detailed and absolutely stable in the air.

  • P-51D Mustang Mk3 9.8 years ago

    Thanks.

  • DH.98 Mosquito 9.8 years ago

Since I couldn't do it any better, it inspired me to do the Ta 154 ;)
