@IStoleYourMeme try it on a couple different computers or mobile or whatever you have, because many planes had a near 100% success rate on one computer, but because of the slight difference between their computer and the one the tournament is run on, they ended up crashing quite early on
If you're going for points than just crank out shit planes as fast as you can. But it makes the content of the site better if everyone goes for quality so I would rather everyone put time into their builds
by modding do you mean editing the xml values of in-game parts or completely making your own parts? Because I've seen a number of thrust vectoring jets, and you could make your own if you can find some xml modded VTOL nozzles with reduced rotation and set them to pitch/roll/yaw. I have also seen a large turbofan made with in game parts, but not the two put together. And if you want crazy power or infinite fuel, there are fuel tanks that have near infinite fuel supplies with no weight somewhere on this site as well as plenty of extra powerful engines
@Pauciloquent yea, I tried that and tried simply stacking like 8 vtol engines inside my plane. It had the maneuverability to complete the course for sure but I had to scrap them both. This tournament is just more about designing around the AI's limitations than designing for pure speed and agility
@WWIIPlaneBuilder yea. I'm pretty sure they tested with some forward swept main wings with V-tail versions but I don't think any were actually built. he probably just combined the original with one of those
@DarkLithium I'm not a pc user either, so I can't easily nudge parts, but it is still possible on mobile only a little more complicated. First you need to place a block on the edge of your plane near where your wing would go and attach the wing to it, making sure it isn't touching any other parts of the plane. Then put a cockpit on your wing and remove the block connecting it to the rest of the plane and place some fuselage blocks long-ways along the axis you want to move the wing (preferably 0.5 length). Add a few sections of them and extend them out until the wing moves back to where you want it to be. now you just need to rotate the wing 4x in any direction (or rotate once and press the undo button, if the wing connects with other parts of your plane) and it will have attached. I didn't completely understand what you were trying to do with the rotator, but hopefully that helps with the nudging problem at least
This plane hardly ever makes it past checkpoint 10 or so and it hasn't completed the course once yet. Is there something wrong with the plane or is my device being buggy?
@planes223 there are air to air missiles inside the rocket attached to detachers, and they fire in groups when you activate 1,2, and 3. They don't fly away though, because I surrounded them in fuselage blocks so they are trapped and propel the whole rocket instead of just themselves
@DelphFoxFan props don't work underwater, so you need to make the torpedo float just enough to keep them out but not too much to cause them to loose all stability
@AndrewGarrison is there a penalty for missing rings? Is the winner whoever finishes first regardless of missed rings or is there a 15 second penalty for each one missed and the best time counts as a win?
https://www.simpleplanes.com/a/7qp1Yp/Princess-Unicorn Here's the link. It's unlisted because I'm still tweaking the props to try and get close to the acceleration that yours has, but when I'm satisfied I'm going to upload it publicly
@Viper28 what times are you getting? I think my plane is pretty good but I'd like to compare. And I don't know if they have plans to but one of the devs said they'd need to improve dogfighting ai before they ever did dogfighting competitions
Wow. this really gave my design a run for its money. Seeing two planes with feet in between them going over 700 mph through a turn is quite a sight. I can't wait for this tournament, it's going to be a close one
The plane is pretty good, but to improve the agility I would move the ailerons further out and make them a little bigger, and make the main wings larger to move the CoL closer to the CoM. if you get the two nodes close enough together you might even need to reduce the size of your elevators to stay under control
I have an iPhone 5s and it runs at a low frame rate on low settings, but yes it technically does run
@FrankieB yea, as long as all successors are yours then the plane is allowed in the tournament
@IStoleYourMeme try it on a couple different computers or mobile or whatever you have, because many planes had a near 100% success rate on one computer, but because of the slight difference between their computer and the one the tournament is run on, they ended up crashing quite early on
@kikasshes I can't remember the technical name for it. But the props mounted on the wings
@kikasshes I've already make a purple one that has jets slowly extending from the wing engines
@Typhlosion130 just to clarify, any engine that has modded thrust or any modded fuel is not allowed, but any other kind of modding is allowed
Much improved from the original design!
@Viper28 yea that's what I meant, I couldn't think of the word. And thanks I'll try that
"It's amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit" this can be very well applied to successors aswell as life in general
If you're going for points than just crank out shit planes as fast as you can. But it makes the content of the site better if everyone goes for quality so I would rather everyone put time into their builds
Great ideas! This site is a little behind imo. The newest page worked ok when the userbase was small, but the site needs to grow along with the game

@Baldovino I was just saying that one could theoretically make a plane like that, but I agree they should not be allowed
@Notapier nope, just engines and fuel. Any thing else like positioning/rotating/resizing is fine
@Umbreon below dogfight there is an option to race. Put your plane in that and select AI controlled
@Baldovino yea, with fancy thrust vectoring and some xml editing one could possibly make a plane that is like 150 pounds with infinite thrust
@FearlessFabFlightIndustries that counts as part of your plane and it would say you've crashed
@FearlessFabFlightIndustries weapons are banned, so no
@AndrewGarrison parts that aren't attached aren't allowed, but what if there are VTOL engines attached via detacher set to activator 8?
@Pauciloquent yea, I tried that and tried simply stacking like 8 vtol engines inside my plane. It had the maneuverability to complete the course for sure but I had to scrap them both. This tournament is just more about designing around the AI's limitations than designing for pure speed and agility

nice job, btw which variant is this? I didn't know there was a forward swept version with the standard tail arrangement and it looks really cool
Jfc is this massive...

This is beautiful, and it's not 20 million parts either!
What day will the stream be?
Some of the radar/stealth stuff seems a little complex for a simple game, but I love your ideas about weapons and damage systems!
Man. I'm proud of mine's time but it uses the new props... This here pulling off 1:07's and stuff isn't going to be beaten by much

Yep, 1k is silver, but don't do the upvote for upvote thing, it's technically against the rules and it's not what they are meant for
ItS ALiVVEE!!!
This is really cool!

As long as it's under 300 parts or so mobiles can run it just fine. I've hardly noticed a difference in frame rate between 30 and 300 part planes
https://www.simpleplanes.com/a/7qp1Yp/Princess-Unicorn Here's the link. It's unlisted because I'm still tweaking the props to try and get close to the acceleration that yours has, but when I'm satisfied I'm going to upload it publicly
Yea, my plane beats it in strait line speed but your plane just shoots off the line so fast, it's phenomenal
@Baldovino I don't suppose we get a time to go along with those stats?
That's one damn quick little bugger. My plane rode it's butt the whole race but couldn't catch up. Time for some more tweaking I guess haha
@Viper28 what times are you getting? I think my plane is pretty good but I'd like to compare. And I don't know if they have plans to but one of the devs said they'd need to improve dogfighting ai before they ever did dogfighting competitions
Have you tried to use the ancient propellers that are 1 block? Look way back on authros or someone's profile and you should see them
Looks like a cargo ship. How about some giant bomb-bay doors on the bottom or sides?
@Gg1234 thanks!
@Meawk Glad you think so :)
Wow. this really gave my design a run for its money. Seeing two planes with feet in between them going over 700 mph through a turn is quite a sight. I can't wait for this tournament, it's going to be a close one
@JacobHardy64 thanks! i tore apart quite a few planes trying to find the right fuselage blocks haha
I have a love for cockpits, and this cockpit is one of the best I've see. You did a great job on this!
@Clawsome to delete a plane you have saved, load it up from the list and then click the X in the red box once it has loaded
