@Jester There seems to be an issue with default torpedoes sometimes just dropping into the depths on launch instead of floating at or to the surface. If you find the time off your next masterpiece project it would be nice if you could look into it!
Very nice! although it might be eventually impractical to keep linking all your other stuff on every build. I suggest making a build index like I have!
@SyntheticL You can, check out my profile it has a link to a kit for making Free Divers. Although if you don't wanna use the VTOL system check out one of my latest submarines for an improved non-fuel diving system. I believe my George Washington has this system. Should probably make an updated kit that includes it.
I'm unsure if he'll accept Submerging submarines since he has previously stated a preference for surface ships. He should though! Submerged submarines would make for really fun targets both to ships and for submarine builds!
Also, I'm very much with peeps saying you should branch out. For a time I was a bit too monotonous with Submarines, but then EternalDarkness told me that honestly and I branched out to do many other things I've enjoyed making. A fresh start in new territory could be quite worth it!
@MB777 The I-400 was made later in the war and only a few examples, while the Gato was a very common submarine alongside the Balao class for the US Navy, so their role and commonality were not comparable.
@SyntheticL It's simple, you could either use a gyroscope or use 2 vertical wings, one in your boat made longer for forward stability, another acting as rudder for steering.
Some small jank aside this is a really cool build! And pretty fun to use, reminds me of a sword fighting guy I made long ago before I found my groove. You should totally try building swordfighting builds at some point!
Its atmosphere has honestly turned me off. It's not as bad as it theoretically can be but it was getting a bit too much like 4Chan b/ board. I left it alongside a few other servers after needing a break from SP things, don't think I'll return there.
@Versa I'll consider that. Also little tip, if you're gonna write a lot you can split paragraphs with a dot
.
Like this. It helps make the big text posts easier to read.
@Bird6369 Very good question! The way I've adjusted this system is based on each Gear's Maximum speed and the Acceleration it takes to get to that speed. Here is the FT Edensk developed so I can show what is to be adjusted
.
(SelectedWeapon="Gear1" ? clamp01(-pow(((7.7-GS)/12.7),2)+.4) : (SelectedWeapon="Gear2" ? clamp01(-pow(((16.75-GS)/19.5),2)+.2) : (SelectedWeapon="Gear3" ? clamp01(-pow(((27.55-GS)/27.55),2)+.15) : (SelectedWeapon="Gear4" ? clamp01(-pow(((41-GS)/36),2)+.1) : (SelectedWeapon="Gear5" ? clamp01(-pow(((56.5-GS)/46.5),2)+.06) : (SelectedWeapon="Reverse" ? clamp01(-pow(((7.7+GS)/12.7),2)+.95) * -1 : 0)))))) * Throttle
.
As can be seen the FT is split into values determined by each gear. Adjusting the numbers in each gear is done to change its effects. The numbers next to -pow (such as. 7.7-GS)/12.7) I've generally adjusted to determine the gear's maximum speed, while the number next to the + is used to adjust the acceleration. Note that these two can affect eachother so some precise adjustment and trial and error is generally needed, particularly if you're going for specific values in acceleration and max speed for each gear.
.
Generally, low gears have higher acceleration but lower top speed, high gears have vice versa. Progressing through the gears involves going from Low Top speed, high Acceleration gears to High Top Speed low Acceleration gears. The * -1 reverses the entire input for the Reverse gear thus allowing it to function as such.
.
For making adjustments I highly recommend copying the FT and putting it in a word doc. It'll make adjustments easier, allowing you to see the whole FT and copy-paste it into the engine's input.
Really neat vehicle! It's also got some speed it can't manage, though when I added a rudder to stabilize it just to see how fast it would go it would begin lifting the rear up as it kept going. Not a criticism here but I thought I would share this. Definitely something you wanna keep slow unless you put a rudder on it, and overall a nice application of such a simple engine.
Now this is incredible! Not only does this have some fantastic detail but its functionality is second to none! Auto aiming AA, Functional gun, refined Free Diving workings, and not only Launching but RECOVERING the plane too? In the jank physics of this game I never thought it possible! I don't think anyone will be able to make a better 1400, this is also one of the best submarines easily made! I'm glad to see Free Diving subs finally being made to their potential!
@MisterT I'm thinking of doing that for the next car, since the only difference between each engine is a different 'max' value under inputcontroller. And thanks!
@Dmanbabo Posting modified versions of existing builds is generally accepted on this site, and you tend to not need to even ask. Just make sure its substantially changed enough.
Based on my experience I think it happens when you scale up some dimensions of a part while having those dimensions be small. So try not to have a part scaled up unless you need them scaled (to pass the 10 limit in part sizes.
@FujiwaraAutoShop Keep in mind a big cause for lag is a high amount of drag calculations coming from a high amount of parts, which are absent here. I would suggest trying to download, you might run it just fine.
Not bad! You managed to implement the functions pretty well, although the pitch function isn't quite right I understand why. Should probably add this to my guide but you want to use a wing of the same dimensions for all control surfaces except for a wider width for the frontal planes. This is what gives my subs their responsive and functional pitch. The Weapons are implemented well too, the torpedoes launch as well as they have in my tests. Cool to see someone take a serious crack at a full on submarine the way I make them!
@An2k I actually tried doing this with one engine and different tractions, it didn't work so well. I have recently learned that the grip of a tire can be adjusted via the extremum and asymptope values in overload however so in theory they might make that work.
@An2k I see the problem, start in first gear, that puts you up to speed fastest, then shift gears as you gain speed to reach further speed. The high gears are intentionally slow in acceleration in order to somewhat exaggerate and better show the differences in gears.
The mod was a monumental achievement in being able to function as it is. So a fully fleshed out official version would likely need the game itself to be reworked.
@Chrisk1993 That’s great to hear! Just keep at it, my first car was pretty mediocre after all (and I mean the old “interceptor” I made). Practice makes perfect, and you can get far so long as you practice and persist. Also using blueprints for replicas is helpful too lol.
The custom engine sound is pretty neat! I can't seem to find how you manage it though nor could I find what you replaced the engine with. I like your idea for an emergency brake! Though I think using another input (Such as Fireweapons) would be better to more accurately recreate the function. Very interesting modifications here! Care to tell how you did the engine? I'm quite curious
"before starting a build, be sure you can finish it" That's probably the biggest thing that keeps some plat users from uploading. They start some really cool builds but don't quite finish them, sometimes due to starting a whole new thing.
.
Also branching out from one's usual comfort zone is certainly worth it! Eternal told me himself at one time that I should build something other than Submarines and that led to my Udaloy which eventually led to me building my Knox Class (which I think is my best ship build). It's also led to me building a helicopter and a few cars, thus taking what I learned before to new builds.
@ThomasRoderick Oh heck no this is nowhere near as advanced as that mad lad's sub. This is just me doing a one time thing of having the full armament of an SSBN installed.
Well I had excellent bases to iterate from, Willy1111's Surveillance submarine gave me an idea how a Submarine could function without pistons, while Toscio56's U96 provided a useful engine design I could iterate off of. The rest was generally improving off my inspirations with experience and finding new discoveries.

When it comes to Bio-mechanical kinds of builds, you are second to none!

+1Hmmm, yes, the floor is made of floor.
+1@FujiwaraAutoShop It does seem like a worthwhile detail to have, adding some details to what might otherwise be an empty lower bumper.

@frank77831 Thanks! I was inspired to start building some Japanese cars after some fond memories of playing Tokyo Extreme Racer 3 as a kid.
