The point is that unless the shock can move freely along whatever the axis the shock will behave unpredictably... if drive the truck with enough speed you will see the other shock behave similarly ...

One of the hinge rotators on the wishbone is set to 10% speed which means it won't move freely. With out this flex then the shock will behave the way you are describing, which is if it can't freely move it is going to wobble and appear to disconnect from parts but not disconnect...
