  • Let's Discuss Part Mirroring one month ago

I'm not sure if anyone else has experienced this issue, since I’ve never heard any discussions about it. It seems like the mirroring system sometimes mirrors parts that are in the middle of the build, resulting in two identical parts in the same coordinates. These duplicates then continue to get mirrored in the same way each time.
I remember working on a small plane years ago and using the mirror function constantly. Eventually, my game started running slowly, and when I checked the part count, it was at some ridiculous number. It turned out a small part in the center of the plane had been duplicated over and over, exponentially increasing the part count. This happened years ago on the mobile version, so I’m not sure if it's still an issue on PC (I haven’t used the mirror tool since switching to PC), but I might have an idea of what causes it.
Sometimes, parts get a strange offset. For example, I build my planes aligned with the centerline X = 0, but after some time, I notice that certain parts have shifted by one unit to the side. I think that because these parts are no longer aligned with the cockpit, the mirroring system still duplicates them but doesn’t remove the original part for some reason.

  • [Teaser] is it a plane? is it a Train? no its...I mean yes..?! 4 months ago

@jamesPLANESiiKind, kind of, sometimes you come up with good ideas when you try to make something you added just because you liked it actually make sense. This isn’t the best example, but on this build, I decided very late to make the cockpit asymmetrical because the view from it just wasn’t good enough. Now, it’s one of my favorite things about the design.

@jamesPLANESii, to be honest, I’ve been really struggling to come up with ideas lately (by that I mean for the past four years). My main approach has been to try and combine things I like. For example, a lot of this is inspired by trains. I like the three-lamp arrangement some trains have, so I used that, along with the plow thingy on the front, etc. I could go on for much longer, but the idea is to combine things you enjoy and hope the result is cohesive. Sometimes, it helps to start with how the machine should feel and build from there. But I don’t think I’m great at coming up with cool concepts, sometimes I draw something I like, but that feels more like luck than a sophisticated pipeline

@dabestsock,You can't directly control the "fireWeapons" and "FireGuns" inputs, which are required to fire. However, you can set them as button outputs. The buttons you're supposed to press simply keep these two signals constantly set to true. This allows you to control when to fire the weapon by coding that logic into its activation. I also use this in my auto firing guns

@NGC543, Nah, that English is pretty bad. What are you doing on this 4.6-year-old forum anyways?

  • Lorie HG-10 [Wins Seaplane Challenge] 1.3 years ago

@sharkysSPacc, It's a good idea, and there are quite a few concepts one could apply. But I'm not sure if it's worth the performance cost. also I find the interface for the ft too annoying to handle something this large. But if you're interested in experiencing that, you can spawn it as AI-controlled in a dogfight. You should still be able to use the gunners, even if the craft is AI-controlled.

@sharkysSPacc, I thought about making an updated version because this thing is very outdated (it's like two years old), but considering how insanely annoying the ft variable interface is I won't do that...
