    The "rudder" is actually where the ailerons would be for roll control, where the ailerons are on this build the real one would have elevators, and yaw control is achieved through brakes on each side of the ring.

  • ViperWolf+ (auto aiming turrets) 6 months ago

    @Mahoots

    Also the inertial control is kinda complicated, but it involves having the rotators spinning permanently and having inputs that speed up or slow down their rotation, each rotator having a partner spinning opposite to it with the same inputs

  • ViperWolf+ (auto aiming turrets) 6 months ago

    @Mahoots

    When it comes to thrust vectoring, it's best to use it to augment your aircraft's existing aerodynamic tendencies rather than to overpowered it. A v-tail nozzle arrangement can make a plane roll when you yaw with them during a high alpha turn, roll control isn't necessary when you're dogfighting an enemy at close range. If you noticed the new nozzles on the SU-57 you can see they're tilted in a flat vtail arrangement, what I mentioned above is the goal with those new 2D nozzles, they don't sacrifice yaw but remain stealthy.

    In the steam page the devs say they're
    working on making the game backwards compatible with sp1 aircraft, but you might have to revamp some aspects since they don't guarantee it'll work with every single one of them.

    funkytrees code that has them spinning perpetually, then i just have normal inputs speed up or slow them down alternatingly to make controlled differential torque

    damn this is exquisite, I adore all the stealth adjacent features especially the S-ducting. Been working on a revision of one of my own aircraft for a good while that also has such ducting and I'm glad to see others incorporating it into their designs.

    @SimpleStudent try having the horizontal turret degree range to 180, then set the turrets values to -2 and 2 and have it funkied to TargetHeading/360, I suspect the turret tries to do a complete 180 before then aiming at the target, this might help.

    I haven't ignored your post but the topic is extremely complicated to explain so I've been working on it for a good while to have it in layman terms for you.

    But, what you can do for the direct aim aspect is to have the rotator that controls the turret elevation (up and down) funkied with TargetElevation/90, where 90 is the degree range of the rotator, you can set it to any degree you want as long as the rotator degree range also matches.

    And for the rotator that controls the horizontal movement of the turret, TargetHeading/90 should suffice.

    Importantly; You want the entire turret assembly to be attached to a rotator pointing straight froward, that's funkied to RollAngle/360, since the turret can only aim if it's perfectly upright, this would keep it upright regardless of how many times you roll so it can properly keep on target, the maximum rotation range for the small rotator is 180 so make sure to go into the input settings and set the -1 and 1 to -2 and 2.

    There's a lot more to it but I hope that helps so far.

    If any of the rotators are spinning the wrong way, just add a - sign in front of the 90 or the 360 to the rotator that's faulty.

  • GAH-25A+ 2.0 years ago

    @STENDEC originally it did use rotors, but they were too much of a burden to tweak and edit for what they were needed for, as they didn't need to do much, so i just used propellers which actually worked better than the rotors and allow for good flight behavior.

  • Simple YF16 2.1 years ago
