@Flightsonic Putting it into windowed mode made the screen flash extremely fast. Fortunately, I don't have any kind of epilepsy, but I felt ill just looking at it!
@DarkLithium My laptop is an Asus. Has 8GB of RAM. The only let down from a specs point of view is the processor. For some reason, some bright spark decided it would be a good idea to put in a low end i5 clocked at 1.80 Ghz with a £500+ laptop. Anyway, even then, it should still be enough and has been enough to run the game.
I really like designs like this. Like a cross between a plane and a helicopter (I know this is a gyrocopter). I made a similar series of aircraft, although they had about 6 sets of helicopter-like blades instead of three. Like yours it was an attack platform. Kind of tempted to start up a similar series after seeing this to be honest. Anyway, this should have more upvotes and it'll be interesting to see how the series progresses. Also, as a side note, I like what you did with the nose landing gear!
@SteadfastContracting Just witnessed the most epic AI dogfight between my ES-46 (not uploaded yet) and your Grey Ghost. They were pitted in a short range dogfight and they flew back and forth at each other for a few minutes. They occasionally got a missile lock on with a guardian, but they would then fly past each other and lose the lock. Then for some reason the Grey Ghost didn't double back on itself, but started flying at a low level. My ES-46 switched to an interceptor, locked on and fired. But because the Grey Ghost was flying so low, and my ES-46 was flying so fast, it tried to pull up before hitting the ground, but it was just too late. So my ES-46 crashed and blew up, but then your Grey Ghost got hit by the interceptor and blew up. It was pretty impressive to watch!
Was in an AI race. I finished the race, flipped back, so I was facing the other way, locked onto my opponent and shot them down before they crossed the finish line.
@Mod To be honest, I was expecting little in terms of attention. It's a pretty specific thing and I would imagine some people on the site aren't old enough to know what it is. However, I'm pretty impressed with the upvote to download ratio: 6:1
XD
@PlanesOfOld I wouldn't word it like you did, but I've seen him/her say some unreasonable stuff. I don't think I've ever called him out for it though, but then I'm more the type of person who sits back and watches over things until they really do get out of hand.
I think people sometimes forget that toxic behaviour only breeds more toxic behaviour, which is clearly the case here. If the mods have already dealt with him multiple times, then that should be enough grounds to ban him/her from the site, like a three strikes and you're out type thing.
As a side note though. I did always wonder what happened to LordOfLego, he was one of my favourite builders on the site. And his disappearance seemed pretty sudden and out of the blue. If everything you say is true, it does seem a shame that other people are no longer posting/being active because of one person being toxic.
I have an inkling that this was inspired by later B-36 designs? The use of props and the four jet engines seems to suggest that anyway. It flies great. It's a bit slow when rolling, but it's a bomber, not a fighter, so it's expected. Pitch response is pretty good though!
From a comparison point of view, my SB-2 is probably the most comparable plane I have to this. It has a larger wingspan, but a shorter length. I went a little more overkill on the payload front though. Would be interesting to see them side by side!
@TheOwlAce I really just thought of this as the last stand aircraft. The bringer of some kind of apocalypse. If you've beaten a countries main defences and you want to take out the whole country, this would be the plane to achieve it. For example instead of using a small fleet of B-36's, you'd just use one or two of these to deliver devastating damage to a country. But, like an AC-130, you'd need a clear path in order to utilise it effectively.
@TheOwlAce Have both under two different variations. I've been busy making two variations of my old ES-21. One is just big and doesn't do a lot, the other is an armoured attack variant with props instead of jets.
I too have been busy with land vehicles. Unfortunately, success has been limited. I build the prototype and then the wheels bug out and destroy my vehicle. Hopefully, it'll all get fixed soon.
@NovaTopaz alternatively, you could have the option to disable the islands. Although, there would probably been too much programming involved for what it's worth. It's a thought though.
And because someone else does it, that makes it acceptable right? Herd mentality is the kind of thing that results in nationalism.
Also, there's a chance what you said was taken out of context. I'm assuming that what you quoted was a generalisation, rather than directed at a specific person. If it was directed at a specific person, then I question their morals.
@Glaceon it might well be a rule, but it doesn't entitle you to spread things like this. Also, speaking of breaking rules, arguably what you have posted can be regarded as spam. If someone has broken a rule, then refer them to the rules and if needed, ask a moderator to get involved.
Enforcing a rule involves making the user aware they have broken a rule, not telling them that "no one cares". May I remind you this is an online community where toxic behaviour should be kept to a minimum.
Should I need to take this situation further, I will request a Mod to look into the matter. However, I'd like to think we can both walk away from this both having learned something.
@TheLastDayLP No problem!! I don't change the aerofoil type in builds often, but more often than not, they're very handy for trimming out a plane so it flies level.
If you want to make it controllable for PC you need to move the CoM forward a bit more (add dead weight and fuel to some of the nose sections) and change the main wing surfaces to a flat bottom aerofoil. Basically, moving the weight/mass forward means it's more stable, however this caused a pitch down moment, so you counteract it with a flat bottom aerofoil that's forward of the red sphere (centre of mass) which generates more lift at the front in order to counter the added weight at the front. Sorry if you know this stuff already, but on the off chance you don't it might prove to be useful!
@SteadfastContracting If something is fast and not manoeuvrable just label it as an interceptor or a bomber! XD
And no problem. I try to aim for something that either flies level at top speed or with a slight climb. If it nose dives or tries to do constant back flips when it shouldn't even after tinkering, I'll either scrap it or redo the wings from scratch... Unless of course it's a high altitude plane, in which case it often has to have a large pitch up moment.
@SteadfastContracting Ah. Flies well though. For one reason or another most people's planes I download have bad handling as in they'll either dive like it's the Olympics when you take your hands of the controls, or try and turn into some kind of space craft (which is okay if that's the intention), your aircraft fly and handle very well though!
Depends on the type of flap used. Would be nice to see a few flap options to chose from instead of one generic one. That said, this is simpleplanes, not complexplanes XD
@PhilipTarpley Thank you very much!!! And also thanks for the upvote! Almost tempted to try and make another version. I've got a proper set of mechanical legs (they move both back and forth rather than just either forward or backward like on this). Unfortunately, I think I'll likely have to wait until I get a new proper gaming computer before I can do that (which could be a while)!
Put it up against my PAK FA in a dogfight at close range. Needless to say, this plane won. It kept up with it in turns like my PAK FA was some sort of deformed snail!
@SteadfastContracting Not going to lie, but this is probably one of the most manoeuvrable planes I've flown along the pitch axis. I was flying at 90 degrees to the water, pulled up with 200-400 feet to go and didn't even skim the water.
@KevinMurphy Thank you so much for the feature! Honestly never thought the day would come!
@SteadfastContracting I know right! I'll have to get round to taking a lott at your plane you uploaded today once I've got over the initial shock!
@CyberDyneIndustries Does that work? I'll upload it privately and paste the link somewhere here for you once I'm finished testing out SteadfastContracting's aircraft.
@Flightsonic That has legitimately happened to me before. I was pretty sure that I lost a few IQ watching it do what it did. Still. It must be hard for the Devs to make a program that's universal and works on all planes.
contemplates life and the universe, misses the ring all together, but tries to correct itself by trying to do a 90 degree turn in the space of 0.27 seconds, ring turns red, AI goes potato and decides to hug the nearest hillside
@SteadfastContracting That's always a good start. For some of my aircraft, I find it difficult to get them to manoeuvre well... Surprisingly though, the majority of my nicer looking planes handle quite well.
@AndrewGarrison I think I might have a few mods enabled. Seems odd how they would affect me now after a long time of having them enabled though!
