@EvilTortoise Don't worry, it doesn't make you a bad person. I've noticed that many in the current generation rising to adulthood seem to have this "firewall" where they feel what happens on the internet is just the internet and has no impact on their lives. Some of us simply have no such "firewall."

  • VL Ukkonen (Thunder) Strategic Bomber 8.4 years ago

@Pilotmario Oh yes, I know the Pummeler quite well. (I had one saved for the longest time.) In our RP, which is now temporarily on hold due to a lack of participants as I just learned, we're dealing mostly with jet-on-jet action. Finland's extremely high performance propeller driven aircraft are an exception to the rule as they have comparable speed to MOST jets presently used by the allies (and have the range to reach us) and yet are nimble performers - something the jets can't match. What's the top speed on the Pummeler below 5,000 feet again?

@EvilTortoise Those with uncommon compassion and freely share of themselves frequently wear their hearts upon their sleeve and thus are more vulnerable.

For those of you who moaned and complained about his builds and are rejoicing now, I would like to step out of my normal happy and calm demeanor and deliver this brief declaration; {Expletive Deleted} YOU!

I curse your' name, in the multitude of titles of all that which is divine. For you have stooped to point and blame another of wrongdoings merely to satiate petty envy. One who was true and kind, a brother of common interest, has suffered harm from your' hate filled words. May divine justice swoop down upon you with swift black wings when divine providence is needed most. For not one among the heavenly host has a kind eye to cast upon envious ones such as you. Mayhaps your' eyes shall be gouged, your' tongue torn or perhaps for typing your' venomous words your' fingers will be burned to mere stumps. If not in this world, then perhaps your' next. Have a pleasant evening~ D.A.

@MikuKat People were saying his planes were crap, that he builds like a silver user at best yet he always gets 40 upvotes or more, etc. I tried defending him in a troll post here on the forum, tried to reinforce to him not to let them get under his skin - it's mere envy. Yet it was all for naught. He still left us. He was one of the first users I started to follow and I loved seeing what he would come up with next. I had two aircraft in my feed, built by him, both of which were of subjects I would have been interested in seeing. I loved his builds, he was always courtious thanking people for upvotes or comments. Though he scolded me once for giving long-winded reviews of his builds on his builds. lol

It was his influence that taught me to be grateful for what attention my designs draw and to express it and reminded me to enjoy the game for what it is and not worry about upvote or download numbers. He will be sorely missed...

@MrSilverWolf Hey, you could do this one in Royal Jordanian AF markings! lol Looking good!!

  • Bf-133-I4-5 8.4 years ago

@TheOwlAce Interesting! How does she handle with this field mod any significant impact on speed?

  • Welcome to the simpleinferno 8.4 years ago

LOL! You should have saved this one for Halloween~

  • Bf-32-B-2 8.4 years ago

@TheOwlAce Good features!! This reminded me of a US pre-war prototype somehow, can't remember what it was though...

  • VL Ukkonen (Thunder) Strategic Bomber 8.4 years ago

@TheOwlAce Which is why in the description it says; "AG 3 - Ventral Turret, VTOL to rotate, TRIM to decline. Beware of striking the aircraft when pivoting on a flat axis, especially the propellers/engine assemblies. Do not raise the guns over the middle line."

  • Alternate WWII: At least 30 to ride 8.4 years ago

@MrVaultech Very creative, a nice glimpse into the looking glass at one small story, amidst the grand story. Only through viewing it in this way can one comprehend the true monster that stalks this world which many, among ignorant masses, dismiss as something far removed from them; war.

  • VL Ukkonen (Thunder) Strategic Bomber 8.4 years ago

@TheOwlAce Yep, fighter escort is the real issue right now. I'm even considering a parasite fighter of some kind, to be on bombers unladen with bombs who would have limited combat time before vectoring towards Cuba. What does Germania use as an escort fighter for long operations?

Oh and about the turrets, yes, you can damage your' own aircraft, that's why there are camera views for each~ Forgot to mention that. I wanted optimal coverage which of course would put the aircraft at risk to but that was true of every single German bomber in WW2, Stuka, Do-17, Do-217, Ju-86, Ju-87, Ju-88, oie I'm not going to finish the list. Frankly in most aircraft, allied included, you could easily destroy your' own aircraft. Fear for their' lives though GENERALLY kept them quite aware of where they were shooting! lol If you were to limit the range of fire to where it couldn't - you'd leave HUGE gaps in your' defenses.

  • VL Ukkonen (Thunder) Strategic Bomber 8.4 years ago

@MikuKat THAT would be great!! However, as home to the Pacific fleet, that will be a major challenge. I should pass along some notes I have on strategic targets in the US and Canada (For the WW2 period) - you'd be surprised how much you can reach within a hundred miles of the coast. lol Unlike Germany and Japan, which learned to improvise and build war materials in an inconspicuous or hidden manner - all of their stuff is right out there in the open, on top of the ground in nice big fat metal buildings! XD Concrete submarine pens like the Germans? Heck no! Their ports were aaaall open. XD

  • VL Ukkonen (Thunder) Strategic Bomber 8.4 years ago

  • VL Ukkonen (Thunder) Strategic Bomber 8.4 years ago

@MikuKat Considering how much of Indonesia Japan controls in the RP, maybe you could design a smaller bird? Although, I can't remember how much fuel she carries so forgive me, this could certainly give California a hard time in the summers approaching from low altitude and dropping ALL Incendiaries!! (They actually tried that in Washington or Oregon thinking they could start a forest fire ... however they were not familiar with the weather in that region that it's typically quite wet and it didn't take. Lil Glen float planes as I recall. The only time the continental US was, known at least, to have been bombed. lol

  • VL Ukkonen (Thunder) Strategic Bomber 8.4 years ago

@MrVaultech Thanks for the upvote. If you want a report on the math used in determining capabilities I can put it into a forum post. ;-) Hopefully this one had a more simple set of comments? You seem vexed when it's like a book..

  • VL Ukkonen (Thunder) Strategic Bomber 8.4 years ago

@MikuKat Thanks for the upvote! Yours' actually would likely have a FAR longer range than this lil girl~ Don't be discouraged! You are also far better armed in that beaute! ^_^

  • VL Ukkonen (Thunder) Strategic Bomber 8.4 years ago

@TheOwlAce Did you climb to the altitude in question? Mine is set at default, I never really mess with those settings.

  • VL Ukkonen (Thunder) Strategic Bomber 8.4 years ago

Thanks for the upvote, @TheOwlAce, much appreciated. Its just that she's a heavily laden bomber. Still like I was saying before, at high altitude, where a strategic bomber belongs she still puts up some high mph which makes her the perfect America bomber. Using refueling points in Lisbon, Spanish Morocco (Then, that also included West Sahara,) and even some points in Spain, upon reaching optimal altitude and cutting back to 80% power, she'll pull off 600 mph. Once they're formed up, say over Lisbon, and set course they can be over Montreal Canada in 5 hours and 28 minutes. Even accounting for 3 hours at full throttle, including the climb and estimated time for evasive maneuvers it leaves enough fuel to return home from that journey and land with just over a thousand gallons in the tank. Meaning - she can penetrate another two hours into North America and still get back to her refueling point in Lisbon. She could go still further if the formation diverts to Cuba which is Axis aligned in the RP.

Thanks @MrMecha, I heard rumors you were leaving the game? What was up with that? Say it ain't so! You're the best mech builder in SPs! D-:

  • VL Ukkonen (Thunder) Strategic Bomber 8.4 years ago

    Thank you kindly, @MrSilverWolf~

  • VL Ukkonen (Thunder) Strategic Bomber 8.4 years ago

@Johndfg @TheOwlAce It was just a random idea that popped into mind and so I decided to test it out, since I was in fact, still working on a bomber. When you're tooling along at 400~600 mph when they detach they just like STOP where you were over. It's really 1500 Lb explosives, the housing, the quad air brakes and a bit of ballast in the nose for good measure - amounting to a 1 ton bomb. I wasn't entirely happy with the end result of this build. I wanted to preserve the canopy view and so couldn't use thin slabs to represent framing but as a result the canopy framing looks like someone spread strips of caulk, moss or what have you into the loose shape of a frame. >.<

Performance wise, while loaded down, frankly she sucks at low altitude but she has a sweet spot somewhere between 35,000 and 45,000 feet where you can actually throttle back to 80% and still maintain altitude and a speed of around 600 mph; 715 mph if you remain at full throttle. I will say this though. This is the all time fastest propeller aircraft I've designed - in a dive that is. Diving from the sweet spot while spiraling I managed to hit 843 mph! lmao

As for your' older bombs, Owly, they'd be good for that I think especially an anti-commerce raider or a dive bomber. As always, feel free to yank 'em and use them if you want, same with the internal bay bombs which as I said are scaled to appear more like the SC250 of the Luftwaffe, which are themselves a bit over 500 Lb but its as close as I can get.

The five blade propellers were a late addition after some light reading regarding propellers in WW2. I ran across mention of Luftwaffe experiments in contra-rotating propellers again, but then found mention of five bladed propellers produced by two different manufacturers in Nazi Germany including Junkers and VDM but were meant for higher HP engines. I know, the turrets look nothing like Luftwaffe standard BUT considering that Finland used a lot of Bristol Blenheims and with the sacking of the USSR and acquiring technical knowledge from some of their designs and lend-lease designs I figured it could be forgiven. I got a bit lazy with the guns, all MG131s but I was thinking about putting an MG151/20 in the nose and tail mount. I wanted to put a lot more technical data in but people seem put off by that. lol

@Pilotmario Agreed, I've wanted to do an amphib jeep for weeks now but my country in the RP I'm in is under too much pressure to focus my attention on stuff like that. I started the RP with two comrades representing the same country. One was banned the other quit the RP. -_-

  • Bomber 1.5 8.4 years ago

I decided to give your' revised bomber a quick test flight and was pleasantly surprised by her! She flies well, she's pretty simple to land, and was surprised by two of the features. I noticed the wing lights of course, something I wasn't expecting to see from a new player. Usually folks will post in their description how to activate features. AG 1 (Action Group 1) activates the lights on the wings. The other interesting feature you added was that you have to arm the Boom-50s with AG 2 before they even show up in your' air-to-ground weapons. That I thought was pretty cool, because in real life you don't fly warplanes around with all your' weapons primed and ready to fire either! Most folks, myself included, just leave the bomb alone and program the pylon the bomb is mounted on to drop one or more at the same time, this was a different and refreshing approach though. Good job! All in all a good first build.

I recommend trying out the fuselage blocks towards the bottom of your' parts list. (They weigh half as much as the original construction blocks if you size them to the 1x1x1 size of the originals, you can change the shape to be rounded, curved, smooth cornered or square. You can also add bouyancy, fuel or even just ballast weight to them. Same with the Fuselage Cones.) Given that you play on Windows, given time, you will learn you have some advantages over mobile players. Firstly, while building press the space bar. You'll see three orbs, center of blue is center of lift, red is center of mass and yellow is center of propulsion. That will be a useful tool for you to determine how is best to layout your' landing gear, make adjustments to wings, ballast, etc. A trick I learned only within the past month or two is called nudging. You can move parts while they are already mounted by holding the shift key in and tapping A, D, W, S, E and Q. A is to port (left of the cockpit from the tail), D is opposite of A, W is up, S is down, E is forward while Q is backward. If you don't hold the shift key in it will actually rotate parts. Hope that helps you in the future!

    Once again, good job~

If I could build HALF as well as you could, I'd be ecstatic. -_-

  • Who would win? 8.4 years ago

@PINK Once again though, with situation, who detects whom first and how. Once detection is made one must determine airspeed, course, altitude, nature/nationality of aircraft detected, etc.; Standard combat loadout varies dramatically in this day and age when fighters also serve as attack platforms. Half fuel stores doesn't amount to much if you are on the edge of your' operational combat range and the nearest base/tanker is a quarter of your' fuel stores away. lol I could go all day with these technical matters but of those you've listed I've heard more favorable reports regarding the Su-35 than any of those others mentioned. (I am not familiar at all with the "S400 family?") I am also behind the time on avionics for Russian aircraft vs. American aircraft, though there's some concern that Russian development of EMP weaponry may have outstripped our ability to protect sensitive systems, due to the Su-24 incident with an Arleigh Burke-Class Destroyer in the Black Sea a while back.

  • Macchi MC.205 Veltro 8.4 years ago

    Thanks, @ccooper! ^_^

  • Who would win? 8.4 years ago

@PINK I think in each case it would depend entirely upon the situation, state of repair/maintenance, equipment carried, battle awareness, training and experience of the pilot/crew.

  • ZLIN Z-42M 8.4 years ago

@MrSilverWolf Yeah, I think my computer was just being wonky last night. I'd load an aircraft and it'd have x drag and x gallons of fuel, load it again and it would have y drag and y gallons of fuel. lol

  • VL Salamointi II (Lightning II) 8.4 years ago

@OldColonel Yes sir! Thank you sir! -snaps too and delivers a crisp salute with a smile-

  • VL Salamointi II (Lightning II) 8.4 years ago

@MrVaultech This is the next-gen prop fighter for the RP, for Finland. They continue to rely on the old DB.605DC 2,000 HP engine driving contra-rotating props as they produce jet-like performance but do not guzzle fuel like they do. The engines are NOT modded but MIGHT be taking advantage of a bug. Comparing its performance to my original Salamointi I noticed that with the prop spinners facing backwards, something I tried on my twin engine birds released a week or so ago, they perform far better.

  • VL Salamointi II (Lightning II) 8.4 years ago

Thanks for your' support, @MrMecha!! :-D

  • A fun page from history I stumbled upon.. (WW2 related) 8.4 years ago

@arcues Twin boom?? O.o; B-18 Bolo? Hm .. actually the Bolo was a bomber built using many common components to the DC-2, which looked somewhat like a miniature DC-3/C-47. If you were commenting on the tri-tail "Ju-88," the B-18 had a single tail surface. The closest comparison I can come to, with that tail arrangement, was the "refined" Avro Manchester and the later Lockheed C-69 Constellation.

  • VL Salamointi II (Lightning II) 8.4 years ago

@OldColonel Historical, as in using ideas from the period perhaps, but it is sadly a figment of the imaginings of TheOwlAce with my own concepts and features added. None the less, I thank you greatly for the compliment! I'll have to buckle down and release some good replicas of genuine warbirds. I've only done one to date, which was the Macchi Mc.205 Veltro. I tried to tackle a Fiat float plane at one point but I couldn't get the rear fuselage to look quite how I wanted it at the time. It was a long time ago though before I knew half of the tricks for builds in this game. Once this fictional Alternate WW2 Role-Play build is over I intend to start building on other projects based more in reality.

  • Hm. 8.4 years ago

@TheOwlAce People with a lot of time, grand imaginations or just prolific builders. Back when I was big into model building I was lucky to finish a dozen in a year because I liked to scratch build somewhat accurate interiors, add white metal aftermarket guns rather than the crap that came with the kit and so on. All seams had to be invisible or I wasn't satisfied. If it had rivet detail I'd sand them flush and use a hypodermic needle to make recessed rivets. If panel lines were raised, I'd sand them off and rescribe them. If recessed but inaccurate I'd fill them, depending on the kit, and scribe new ones. If the tires were inaccurate I'd either mould my own from resin, resort to the spares bin, or purchase aftermarket replacements. Even then I couldn't compete against award winning model builders. Their criteria is accuracy, detail and weathering effects (which I'm only okay at accomplishing.)

Here the criteria follows; Numbers, appearance, detail and functionality - loosely in that order. My own is still detail and appearance but it has to retain decent functionality. I still don't release many creations per week. If I knew more about how to make proper interiors and such here you probably would see me release a build every few weeks or every couple of months! lol
Look at the builds I made intended for our RP, I changed things up with the camo, gave them a scarlet crown marking and the fuselage band. Some of those got some fair votes others were scarcely noticed...shrugs.

  • ZLIN Z-42M 8.4 years ago

... although I can't seem to get her off of the runway. O.o

  • ZLIN Z-42M 8.4 years ago

    Very nicely done!

  • Hm. 8.4 years ago

@TheOwlAce True, but you get down to the grit of it; Human nature. Let me ask this, did you like the colorful squadron markings of the 1980s for USN aircraft more or less than modern low visibility markings? Regardless of your' answer most would say they liked the more colorful insignia.

In Europe, in your' setting, there are many imperial powers. There's a delicate power balance there that could easily be tripped. If war comes anti-aircraft gunners will have to ID aircraft flying overhead. At 3 miles in the sky its hard to make out what's what - especially if their aircraft have darkly painted undersurfaces. How do you tell the difference when radar and IFF are still essentially in their infancy? I'm not going to tell you to change what you do, c'mon man you're a gold member with 12.9k so you're obviously doing something right. Meanwhile I've been playing for months and am still a silver member at 4.3k.

  • Hm. 8.4 years ago

@TheOwlAce I don't know that it's the design per se as the markings, color scheme, etc. We've established that your's performs better after all. While you often include fin flash, the monotone colors and lack of additional markings often works against you and many others who build genuinely good stuff.

  • Bf-133-I3-4 8.4 years ago

@TheOwlAce Yeah, see, I'm not sure if some of that drag was due to that 1x1x0.18 piece I snuggled down into each wing so it's worth a shot to experiment.

  • VL Salamointi II (Lightning II) 8.4 years ago

@MasterMindIndustries Thanks, glad you liked it! ^_^ That's a supersonic prop-job without modded engines. XD
